Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Jesse Hogan Injury Update?

Another way to look at it would be that Hogan will be Clarks replacement & Roos will back Pederson in now or recruit another Ruck/Forward type. That'll leave Dawes, Hogan, Pederson/Jamar/Gawn. Will be interesting to see how it all pans out.

You forgot Spencer who has just been offered and accepted a 2yr deal

Completely wrong, I have actually asked most of the players, they are 'advised' to stay away from the fan forums, three quarters of them don't even read the sports pages in the newspapers.

Most of the players know the supporters opinion of their playing ability, they hear it over the fence, and they get judged all the time in the media

They are not stupid, they know if they are playing badly they won't be flavour of the month with the supporters

I explained to Jimmy Toumpas why I was asking questions and he answered and told me I was free to quote him, he knows as a top five pick he should be 'tearing it up', but strangely he listens to the coaching staff more than the supporters

The only reason the trolls have stopped hitting the players Twitter accounts is because Nathan Jones has told them to retweet to their followers if they get garbage and let the followers bombard the troll, works a treat

Jesse Hogan was signing stuff before the QB game and knows the majority of the supporters want what he wants, to get on the park, coz most of them told him that, I spoke to him afterwards and he had enjoyed the comments

Of Course they are going to tell you they don't read the newspaper or sports article.. its the oldest trick in the book.

Players aren't just going to come ojt and tell you yeah I read demonland and bigfooty etc. All players will once in their careers look themselves up on the Internet and read what supporters say. I have two cousins who are currently playing in the AFL. I talked about this issue a while ago to one of them and how they delt with it. He did mention all players in the club have seen themselves cop their wack on internet forum etc.. they will always say the old cliché dont read newspapers and all that but players do Saty. He use to cop it on Bigfooty and supporter forums. He was a wipping boy. It does hurt seeing comments how [censored] you are or lazy when they know they trying their guts out. Some players handle it perfectly and some really struggle with it.

Dont be surprised majority of our players have actually scrolled on demonland.

I can't stomach the bile on Big Footy and I don't even play the game ( have not visited that cesspool for over 2 years) . I would be more than surprised if players actually went there. I have no evidence but I would suggest that many players would probably read the Hun and the Age - but read Demonland ? I would think - nah.....

Hey Dawesy,

When you lead out from goals to the right your last few steps need to be predominantly on your left foot, cutting back inboard so when you mark the ball you have actually reduced the angle of the kick at goals.

You're welcome !

If you are not putting me down, it would be a first, you have no idea what I talk to the players about, or they tell me, mainly because you are not there with me, I actually publish some of the conversations I have because the interstate and overseas supporters like reading them, not to big note myself or start rumours, it gives them a sort of proxy one on one with the players that they can't have, and those lucky enough to live in Melbourne and get to training can

I have also over time not published other conversations, because I have been told not to or decided not to myself

As far as Jesse Hogan goes, to go back on topic, I had a chat to him before the QB game and he was very upbeat, and when I saw him do the forty minutes of running the other day at training.when he finished I went over to check how he was, jokingly making a reference to the nervousness on Demonland, which he appreciated, he was quite happy to tell me how he felt and it wasn't in the usual cliches, it was in 18-19yr old speak which I paraphrased

Any time you want me to ask a question of the players feel free and I will get you an answer, apart from Frawley, everybody is getting a straight bat from him, I tweeted him a picture of a pen and asked him to use it, hopefully he will

How about we don't trade Hogan and make a play for Fyfe ? ( remembering that Roos likes to keep a happy camp by not paying gazillions to secure a Buddy)

How about we back the club to do its best to keep the players it wants to keep. The philosophy of "he might leave so lets trade him now" infuriates me.

Agree entirely, but that exact philosophy was canvassed by Mr P.Roos himself earlier this year or late last year IIRC.

dd Scully was one of a kind.

A scum bag of the lowest order.

I don't think there is another Melbourne player on the list that is like him , thankfully.

Bit harsh Dox.

I would have said, overrated money grabbing scum bag, but never one of a kind.

Have to agree to disagree.

I really dont want to hijack this thread. So anyway I just hope Hogan sees there is a future for him at our club and he will re sign soon.

The philosophy of trade a player if you have doubts that you can retain him ?

I seriously would love a reference as to where he said that because it would be the first thing that has come from his mouth which I utterly reject.

Good teams retain the players they want to keep. The big disclaimer in that is free agency where you know you will be compensated for the loss. But I would interested to know of the players anyone has traded not on FA because they were scared they were going to lose them. There have absolutely been some trades on players that have wanted to go home but they have been very few and far between.

Not just that Hogan is worth it, but the salary cap is due to jump significantly on 2015.

Another $500k in the cap, I believe.

When you're not even paying the full cap, you can easily accommodate such a salary for a player like Hogan.

Not to mention next year we can 110% of the cap because we only played 95% in 2013-14 (I'm pretty sure this is right, part of the new equalisation measures).

I think there's a distinct difference between "you might see a situation where..." and it being Roos' philosophy.

I don't think it would be Roos philosophy but he was the one who canvassed it.

Which was what I originally stated.

Thanks for the reference - I cant read anything except the first line - but that's enough for me. I somewhat disagree with him for the first time.

I question one thing - Apparently Frawley was asked last year about extending - why didnt Roos trade him ? I would suggest that his name would have been floated at trade time and Roos has weighed up the offers against what he could expect to get as FA compensation.

I would love to see the guts of the article - the only reason you would trade Frawley a year before his free agency is because you are offered more than you think you will get as a compensation pick. FA guarantees you a pick and in most case you know roughly where they will be. So most think we will get a first rounder. You wouldn't trade Frawley last year unless we were offered more than a first rounder ?

Its a demand and supply thing - as it always has been.

Oh dear Nutbean

why are you oh dearing ? I asked to see the reference ! As opposed to some I didn't call BS because I didn't know if he actually had canvassed the philosophy or not. So I asked for the reference.

I still believe that good teams hold onto their players they want or in the case of free agency - get compensated.

I suspect the talk of trading players early is like Russian roulette. You may have threatened to trade Dunn early if he refused at the end of last year to sign because he would have worried about getting a decent gig. ( not now !!!) Would Roos trade Frawley early ? Well we have the answer on that don't we.

The game hasn't changed - they wont trade anyone early unless they get a better offer than FA offers.

Why is it possible to lose Hogan when he hasnt played a game for us yet? Surely he cant just nominate for the draft? He has been on a standard 2 year contract I presume and the club needs to sign him up this season. What ae the options if we cant agree terms?

Next year is the end of the two year contract.

If he gets through to end of next year without a contract he can go into the draft and the bottom team has first crack at him. That simple.

So if he wants out at the end of next year and specifically wants Freo or the Eagles.

1. They have to finish bottom to guarantee that he can walk out on us and to them.

2. They can finish anywhere else and Hogan can walk and do a Luke Ball - any other team drafts me i wont play for them - unlikely.

3. We participate in a trade to get him to Freo or the Eagles.

Those are his options.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
