The 2014 AFL National Draft

I prefer the idea of trading pick 3 for Shiel and pick 4 for Reid and Mitchell. Then trade Watts for Armitage. From that we get 3 quality midfielders (2 leaders; Shiel and Armitage) and a up and coming foward to replace Clark. Disregarding personal matters, this is relatively realistic and very well could happen.

Edit: also trading Watts to Saints could possibly enable them to take Petracca in the draft. So it's a win win situation. I can already see Watts in a Saints jumper.

Chaser what's your thoughts on Reece Mckenzie, seems to be getting some publicity lately and may be the late bolter in the style of Hill, Watts, Martin, Bontempelli

Haven't seen him live yet PSD, but hope to see him in action next weekend.

He's kicked bags of 10 & 7 in recent TAC Cup outings and had a haul in the region of 16 or so for Marcellin in between. A basketball convert who's probably sitting in the second round at the moment, but could push up a bit further if he maintains this form. To date the asterisk on his big hauls are the opposition he performed against weren't high end (relative to the competition).

SEN just said as done deals (from two sms sources ):

  1. Jarrod Waite to North Melbourne at end of season.
  2. St Kilda pick 1 to GWS for tom Boyd.

Both unreliable sources obviously. But interesting to hear and if true means GWS will have picks 1 & 2 (or 3 depending on our match this week).

Why would St Kilda want Boyd over Mcartin?

thats a great question

Boyd doesnt seem that good, certainly seems to lack any killer instinct or mongrel

would take McCartin over him for sure

GWS would need to add something else in otherwise the trade would be of no benefit for St Kilda and lots of benefit for GWS.

Wouldn't it be funny if GWS take Petracca and Brayshaw with 1 and 2

no, it really wouldn't.

but i could definitely see it happening.

the waite to north rumour has been around since the start of the year. it makes sense - for whatever reason, they think they're a smidge off premiership contention with their aging 30+ year olds still the core of their team, so why not continue to top up? i can't see it ending well...

and saints have been quite clear that pick 1 is on the table, and boyd has been rumoured to be unhappy up north since january. it'd make sense, and give gws ANOTHER top pick. it's just ridic, really.

there's also the story in the oz today that footscray are throwing a fortune at patton to get him to leave.

Why would St Kilda want Boyd over Mcartin?

already more miles in the tank...further developed...More instant effect. Same reason we traded for Tyson

Jack Watts to Carlton for Levi Casboult.

(No rumor in it whatsoever, just pondered on my mind this morning)

Something you would consider? I personally would.

I think they would regret missing on McCartin, can't see them passing him up.

Not sure where I am on this as there are positives. For both players it would be a reboot, new club, fresh start. I would say Watts has more skill but Levi isnt afraid to use his body and take a game on. He's just inconsistent, but so is JW..lol Interesting you raise a swap with Calrton as Micky Mouse obvious has a thing for jackie.

Casboult would slip into our fwd line and make for an interesting addition. Not sure what Smaltz would do with Jack in terms of their set up.

Throw in a draft upgrading pick swap....Id consider it.. Psych evaluation required though

Spoke to Reece McKenzie at school yesterday. Reminded him what Bontempelli ( Marcellin) did to us this year and he said he would kick the winning goal against us next year. He's a good lad is known to recruiters at the dees and is well regarded by people here. They've turned out some good players from Marcellin in recent times. And he's big.

Yes fookin hilarious!

2 more talented kids running around in the NEAFL for 2 years until they or Shiel, Treloar, Coniglio, Whitfield or whover else they pick up are traded off in a couple of years for more Top end picks

God I hate that club and the AFL for the way they set this up

One can take a contested mark but can't kick, the other is a beautiful kick but can't take a contested mark.

Personally, I would vomit and be very surprised if we drafted / traded in a player who was poor by foot.

Casboult can kick, just isnt sublime as Watts

Watts career G 72 Bh 37 , 2014 12-7

Casboult career G 28 Bh 28 , 2014 14-9

its just a curiosity really

I wouldn't look at a trade option as black and white as that..Personally I would think as a team we would benefit of having someone like Casboult in the side over Watts in terms of structure.

Think of when we didn't have Chris Dawes playing.. He can't take a mark, is an average kick, but without him in the side we had to mix up our backline, didn't have any options going forward and couldn't take a mark inside fifty to save us.

What happens if Dawes gets hit again with another injury, we don't have James Frawley anymore and we just have Hogan who is playing in his first year of AFL and possibly Jamar/Max Gawn down in our forward line. What happens then?

Think of a trade like Watts to Casboult on a more higher end level than just 'vomitting' because one is a good user by foot and the other isn't....

I would still argue (bucket in hand) that Casboult is a average at best kick, particularly for a key forward.

However, a player with his marking ability and size would definitely be of great value.......if his kicking was deemed adequate.

would make our picks more valuable to someone looking for a big forward like the Dog's.

There would have to be some agreement and confirmation that GWS would be in fact taking Petracca & Brayshaw at picks 1 & 2 in order for the Bulldogs to trade a player / picks for our pick 3. They wouldn't consider it based on the fact that they MIGHT think GWS wouldn't take McCartin.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
