Any optimists here saving September 27th for a celebratory evening / weekend ? :-)))))

So can anyone enlighten me what the real difference between an NAB Challenge game (18 games in 18 days, no ladder, finals or a "Winner" from what I can see) and the round of practice games that start straight after?

Are the rules different (super goals etc) for the NAB Challenge?

What do other Demonlanders make of reverting back to an original AGM, i.e. with no information session?

The information session in previous summers was a highlight of the off-season, and I'm disappointed that these have been dropped. It makes it less likely that I'll come along to the AGM now.

I'm wondering if this is a cost saving measure, but others may have better suggestions on the reason for it.

Don't see how it could be a cost saving measure. They still need the use of the members dining room. Seems to be just another measure to put the members at arms length. Perhaps they are hoping that the numbers will be reduced and in future they can hold it at the Bentleigh Club as in years gone by.

Savings made by dropping the Info Session could also come from:

- Less overtime for the administrative staff, Roosy, Josh Mahoney and any other ops staff who attend.

- Less time required to prepare a presentation for any Info Session.

- Shorter time in the MCC Dining Room.

I'm clutching at straws while trying to come up with possible reasons. So far, it seems pretty mean on the part of the MFC.

Is there still an Indigenous team v AFL team game prior to the NAB cup starting?

Any danger of members getting in to the Casey game for free this year, or are we going to get stung for entry, parking and every other possible thing again?

According the the AFL website, the game is at 1.00pm on the 8th of March.

Contacted the Club today re cost of entry. The very quick reply (cudos to Georgina) was that entry is free ^_^ She also sent a pdf doc which I can't seem to load here and can't find on MFC website. So, overview is:

11am – FREE Dees FunZone

* Face painting * Autographs * MFC Mascots and Entertainment *

* Membership and Merchandise available * Practice your footy skills *

Followed by the Hawthorn game at 1.00pm which is then followed by Casey Scorpions v Box Hill Hawkes game.

On a side issue: Just don't get why AFL have this hybrid NAB Challenge/practice games thing happening...aren't they all just practice games? The former are televised and have entry fees, the latter do not. Weird! Wonder what happened to the prize money for winner of the old 'NAB Cup', this year.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
