Who do people who hate this selection think is out there at this point?

The last few players on your list is the place to punt; we have picked up two raw mids (Hunt and Harms), a beanpole (King), an ungainly medium defender (Georgiou), and a tough, hard if limited midfielder that we know quite well (Jetta).

If your argument is that we 'know' he cannot become anything, then you should have that view of any delisted player being picked up by this club. Maybe their is a role that Roos sees him a chance of fulfilling.

You can't say that Watts or Trengove will find their way under Roos while dismissing the improvement of players you don't think are any good.

I would agree with this. It's one of the reasons I was surprised to see Jetta delisted, and not at all surprised he has been retained.

The Swans style is frenetic, and Jetta is closer to that mould than the likes of Strauss and Blease.

To me he lacked clean hands early on but Bailey said his attitude was second to none to be the best he could, so I always had failth. He has had continuous injuries but has finally got a good run at it. He won't ever be a star but Intjink he can play a great role out of the back pocket. Go Neville

Like anything - confidence brings improvement - I rated his hardness and shutting down ability but didn't believe he provided enough offense. With confidence ( I guess from not being bounced in and out of the team) he is now not only doing a great defensive job but also offering some offensive rebound. I think as we improve this will also become more a feature of the game.

I loved the little run in the 4th Quarter when he gathered the ball and both Pies forwards around him though he would dish off laterally but instead he charged straight down the middle leaving both Pies forwards flat footed.

Nev's biggest issues were his fitness, injuries and position. The first two are related he couldn't stay healthy to get the required fitness. The last point was also related he was never a small forward but due to his tank he couldn't play in the midfield. His defensive and team acts have always been good, another player that a move to the other end of the ground has saved his career.

He is one of the few players on our list that takes the game on.

Confidence brings improvement you say? So you think nurturing players through form slumps and giving them a chance to improve by having faith in them and building their confidence might actually be the way to go?

I've read on here that dropping players like a sack of spuds after a bad game or 2 to rot in the reserves as a form of punishment is the way to do it though. Watts, Howe, Jetta, Grimes should all have been sent to the gallows apparently.

Maybe this Roos bloke knows what he's doing?

I like that he doesn't bounce players in and out the team. ( for the record - I have never been an advocate of dropping a player after a couple of quiet games. Nor have i ever been an advocate of calling any player in the AFL a spud)

I know, I was agreeing with you. Hopefully a few others start realising that writing players off like they do makes them look silly.

One of Jetta's better games. Loved his run off the backline at times. The filth really showed us up in that area.

I'm really pleased his is making the most of his chances, he must have been so close to getting the flick. Maybe a few borderline players on the list can take something from Nevs fortune. Do the hard work dont give up, then have no regrets.

Nev has one thing a couple of our borderline players lack, a big heart and the willingness to do the team 1%ers. He actually enjoys body contact I don't know if others do.

Elliott and Wingard are two exceptional small forwards yet Neville Jetta has made them look second rate. If we were playing a final tomorrow he'd be in my first 5 picked, I reckon. Pretty close to it anyway.

I have held Roos in the highest regard since 2004. I think this is a flat-out error of judgement. You can't make a leather purse out a a sow's hearse, as I say...now.

But if anyone can do it, Roos can. I just thought it made more sense to work his magic on someone raw with some guts and speed for example.

This may be the only time I'd ever be able to say to PR, "I told you so".

I didn’t post in the early pages of the thread, but my sentiments would have been the same as most- disappointing pick-up, no real weapons, won’t make the grade.

Would have to come close to the biggest career turn-around of all time.
