Full Melbourne 2014 Fixture

Best we could've hoped for with no Skilled and 1 Pattersons game,no Friday Night games but 5 Saturday night games, which I much prefer and 2 twilights.

Great result.

No, neither. Both of them are once-only games, home games (Brisbane at Etihad).

That's bloody fantastic that is!

Can't wait till we start winning which result in getting a better draw.

Really grates my aggets tbh

Thanks for all the info guys and gals greatly appreciated

If (big if) we can get a win against the Saints in Round 1, you'd hope that our opening home game in Round 2 could pull a decent figure (more decent than what we're going to get in Round 21 v GWS, anyway). But yes, the draw is financially abysmal.

I can't remember when we had a big crowd at the G for a West Coast game, if we get 25k following a first round win it will be a miracle.

GWS in round 21 will probably be closer to 15k as will the GC game, Bullies and North will be around the 22 - 25k mark. Looks as if we will have our hand out, once again, at the end of the season. What's the saying keep them poor and dependent.

IMO we have a good chance to be 2 wins from the first three games.

That would give us the best start that I can remember.

It would do wonders for membership numbers.

If we could make that start I would say we have a great Draw for 2014

and some of the other games later on have a better chance of drawing reasonable numbers.

Of the 7 8 MCG home games, we have 3 x Sunday 3.20pm, 2 x Saturday night, 1 x Saturday 1.45pm, 1 x Sunday 4.40pm and 1 x Monday 3.20pm.

It is good in that respect

We are a sneaky chance to be up 4-1 for mine

It all depends on that first game against the 'aints... if we lose that, going by previous years' form, we are going to be in a lot of trouble... if we win it, we will have some momentum to build on.

We have 8 MCG home games, you missed the Monday for QB..

From a commercial point of view it's not the best, but with the 2 NT home games and only 5 away games outside of Melbourne, there is some upside.

I reckon if we can beat St Kilda in Round 1 we might get closer to 30,000 for the West Coast game. First home game, a win on the board, it's not impossible I don't think.

That GWS game in Round 21 will be lucky to get 15,000 though.

Not bad for a team that does not win or rate tu.

Start winning games and it all changes.

Until then we have no power / choice.

Dreadful draw from a commercial point of view and the game at Etihad is just another kick in the guts.

We cannot make any money from this draw and I'm sure that PJ is less than happy, there are two games where we will make a profit Collingwood and Geelong.

Agreed. Jackson would have been heaving his guts out when he saw that. His tough job just got even tougher

We have 8 home games next year, and of those, only 3 are against Melbourne clubs, two of whom are the lowest-drawing (North and WB). It's crushing commercially, as others have said. It looks ok from a standpoint of who we play twice, but we've had the easiest draw every year for the last 3 years and it hasn't helped.

And I have to tell the mrs that there's no Queensland holiday this year.

can someone explain to me why we have a home game at Etihad???

Because the Semi-Final rematch (Pies & Power) is at the G that afternoon.

Round 1 2007 Melb v St kilda, Melb enter into the 2007 full of hope after beating St Kilda in the finals 2006 before going down to Fremantle. The club had high hopes for 2007 and we believed we would be in contention.

This was the start of what has now been 7 years of hell. 2014 we need to win round 1.

I'm not complaining, it's what we get for being a disaster commercially.

PJ is 100% right to call us an impediment. No one wants to play us because no one will come and no one will watch.

8 home games at the MCG is a farce...given that we gave up 2 games to the NT to promote the game for the AFL ..why the f,... did they allocate an Etihad home game...again..this draw f...s us financially. I hope the NT is coughing up a bucket load for those 2 home home games.

The only good thing is that half our games will be played at the MCG and we don't travel to Geelong or QLD and only once to W.A.

Do we know what games we get as replacement games in Melbourne for the two we play in the NT?

At least we dont have to travel down to geelong. Its about time we got to play nth at the mcg. Even though we play them at eithad in the last round. Bit annoyed we have to back up queens bithday after the darwin game but at least its a 10 day break. We dont have to travel to brisbane and we only play richmond collingwood and essendon once as well as geelong and hawkers.

It doesnt look to bad. It would be nice to get off to a good start in r1 with a win.

If we start winning then supporters will show up. Now its over to roos and the boys to achieve this.

I thought there were going to be 2 byes next year

How about an MCG home game against Hawthorn, Richmond, Essendon or Carlton?

Pros - no game at Geelong, no Mothers Day game, only 4 interstate games (away)

Cons - no home games against Ess/Carl/Rich/Haw, playing GC at home on Easter/Greek Easter, home game at Docklands

The second one is a split round in Round 18; we have the second week off.

There is - look at R18 it's over 2 weeks - so an effective bye weekend for eveyone

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.

The Demons return to the scene of the crime on Saturday to face the wooden spooners the Eagles at the Docklands. Who comes in and who goes out? Like moving deck chairs on the Titanic.

It's Game Day and there are only 5 games to go. Can the Demons find some consistency and form as they stagger towards the finish line of another uninspiring season?
