Sorry to persist, but I think that is in the way he is coached and lead. If he is a first rounder , then he already has outstanding natural ability, which means his inability to play that way is in the head. That can be coached and that is the upside for the whole list.

Every player who is drafted has gone through extensive testing by sports scientists from the AIS (regarded by many internationally as the best in the world - that's why the Poms keep pinching them) - as a group these 200 plus potential AFL players are regarded as the elite sports people in Australia, and Organisations like the AOC seek to convert those not drafted into Olympic sports for those reasons. It is simply not possible to be drafted IN THE FIRST ROUND of the AFL draft without being the best of the best in terms of athletic ability. I am not necessarily talking about football ability, but in pure athletic ability they are the cream.

Every one of our first round picks are in that category, including Gysberts is an outstanding athlete. That is why it is such a tragedy that we have been so incompetent in getting the best out of them, and in my view, with someone like Roos at the helm, who clearly knows what he is doing, there is just SO MUCH upside.

Gysberts was and is not an outstanding athlete, just watching his training form and difficulty running out a game will tell you that. He is slow and has often been seen bent over searching for breath after his first effort, repeat efforts are beyond him.

AFL players are elite in their sport, they are regarded as no more elite than any other sportsperson at the highest level. I can't remember the last AFL player to miss the draft who competed in athletics at Olympic level. I do know that Nicho was highly regarded but chose football, a few on here would wish he didn't. Compare his training output to Gysberts.

Most AFL players are generalists as far as being athletes goes, if they were to compete at Olympic level they would have needed to make that decision in their early teens. They are not being chased by the AOC, that is just patent rubbish unless it's for the bob sled team.

Blitz at Geelong who couldn't get in the Australian team runs rings around anyone at the Cats, and he is carrying 15 to 20kg above his athletic performance best weight.

Also you might not know that Gysberts didn't test at draft camp due to injury.

Ok in the spirit of compromise, I will let go of Moloney. He seems happy enough up in Brisbane. And then when he plays against Melbourne he gets 40 touches and a couple of goals. That ship has sailed.

But Gys is cheap gold. The Kangas have one of the best midfields in the AFL. Gys, a 21yo skinny mid, coming across with the stigma of a terrible environment is hardly going to tear up the park in his first year. Look at Majak Daw? Do you think he has potential? He plays with Gys in the North twos.

Get Gys back for cheap and we back Paul Roos to grow him right.

Maybe we should focus on Majak Daw instead of Gysberts? He might bring in the fans disappointed about the absence of Jurrah!
