Colin Sylvia is yet to decide if he will remain at Melbourne

Featured Replies

Two first year mature age draftees finished ahead of him in the Bluey. That says it all for me.

Let him go and use the funds on other players hopefully in the FA market and dip back into the mature age draftee pool.

He's a pretender and I won't be concerned if he goes a single iota.

Should we let Frawley go too?

Should we let Frawley go too?

Have a drink Ron...a Burgundy perhaps !!

Should we let Frawley go too?

Only if you want to continue comparing apples to oranges, Ron.

Experienced hard body who is still capable of turning a game.

Must retain.

He is an experienced hard body, but he does not turn games.

Re-read the first two sentences of your quote that I referenced above.

Following that logic, Frawley, Trengove, Grimes, Clark etc would all be fair game to be traded.

In short, Matt Jones and Dean Terlich had good seasons. How and why that means Sylvia should be traded - well, I don't get that.

GWS last quarter, was the instigator. Essendon 2012 3rd Quarter.

Richmond 2011, Only player v Goldcoast this year who did anything.

Plenty of other games he's turned or been the only fighitng dee

So how about the 35 odd other players that finished behind Terlich and Jones in this years B&F? Are they all failures

as footballers too? A ridiculous statement!

Col finished fourth for posessions this year, and second in tackles for us. If that doesnt equate to 'putting in' then he will never be

able to please people on here no matter how well he plays. I guess I can read the Lynden Dunn thread for the same sweeping conclusions as well.

Getting an award at the B&F night for his work in the community says to me that Sylvia is finally starting to gain the maturity and understanding of what

it is to be a respected footballer.

If we continue to give away our best players to better teams because theres something we dont like about them, we'll end up with a team full of Tapscotts

and James Strauss', non-offensive, anonymous, completely ineffectual footballers.

10 years into a career, he should have played a few good quarters. You are putting forth games we lost (Richmond 2011, Gold Coast). He also played very well against Hawthorn one night when we lost. He does not turn games. I think he'd be a player we should look at trading. People think he's great because he looks like the archetypal footballer, but his output is substandard for a high draft pick at this point in his career.

Ron, when all of those players you've mentioned above have had as many chances as Colin has had then you have an argument.

That's the glaring difference in my opinion, and I will stress that it is just my opinion.

But there's other variables:

- Lacks on field leadership

- Questionable off field conduct

- Consistency has improved but hardly impacts given his 'lauded' skills and ability

- Never had a leadership role in the team

I appreciate the fact that Roos wants him to stay and I hope that's because he recognises how to extract the most from Colin.

Who's being ridiculous?

A high draft pick, mature, seasoned player finishes 5th in B&F of the team that finished 17th...

Disappointing.

Taking his AFL player ranks as a guide he would be the 2nd best mid at Melbourne, which would equate to the 6th best at Hawks (just above Isaac Smith), or 8th best at Geelong (just above Joel Corey), or 7th best at Swans (above Craig Bird)...

He's not going anywhere to play finals because on present form he'd be lucky to get a game in a top 4 team...

I can only think of two occasions where that has actually happened and one of those was against GWS early in the year.

I think "turning a game" is in with "Col has great potential.

"

If Roos can't convince him to stay and he is not focused on MFC then we should try and maximise our outcome from his departure.

"I think "turning a game" is in with "Col has great potential."

I don't.

.

why is Sylvia big loss ? seriously

He performs off on off on off etc. By all reports he offers no leadership.

people still buying into 'potential '

what does he really do on the field thats either that wonderful or irreplacable ? Im interested !!

Just you wait til he gets a full pre-season under his belt. He'll be a gun one day that boy. Mark my words.....

Sylvia is a mature, hard bodied Midfielder, Roos wants him there, if he leaves it will hurt, we need the experience, Roos might get him to another level as a player and i thought this was his best season for us as it is.

fingers crossed for good news here.

Regardless of who's coaching, if you don't want to give 100% to the jumper....sodd off now. That includes Watts, did he verbally agree to Carlton when we had no coach?

sounds like Carlton spending all their money on Thomas

Hhaahhahhaha Gotta love it hahhhahhahaa!

Hhaahhahhaha Gotta love it hahhhahhahaa!

didnt he have a full preseason this year? haha

I am one of those prepared to back Roos judgement on Sylvia and Watts. Bring on 2014!

Out of 157 games you can practically count them on your fingers of a hand how many hes truly impacted.

Rather damning id have thought.

The Claytons Impact player !!

haha... no, the last avatar change was a limited edition 24hr only celebration of Roos signing on... this one will be more permanent, at least until I change it again (I've always been a big Gerry Gee fan and I thought there was a slight resemblance to Roos in there as well - although he is certainly no dummy).

Somewhat appropriate that a ventriloquist's dummy represents an anonymous poster. Must find one for myself.

I dont say this to invite flame or such . But I just dont care . been over him for years now.

Totally agree. Wouldn't even think about it for more than 2 seconds if the news was out that he's left us.

Very courageous player IMO! Leads others on the field with his bravery. Very much underrated.

I hope he stays!

The fact that some of you are ok with him walking is pathetic.

We lack skill, senior players, players who go in hard, and serious crash and bash footy players.

pathetic to some of you

Well, it was that or a pic of Mad Max - the Keyboard Warrior :)

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
