Having watched several of the highlights packages, I'm surprised that conclusions about what a player is really like can be drawn from such small samples of play. But in the absence of more information, I enjoy reading the posts.

Annually we all become drafting experts based on 2 minutes of video

It's a bit like the Olympics where every 4 years we become expert judges in things like diving. No splash ..gotta be a 9.4

It's fun Sue, you should play as well

Freeman tipped in Herald Sun Phantom Draft as our number 9 pick.

He would fit in perfectly as a runner with real acceleration. Loves to run and bounce and deliver inside 50.

Lol

Lovetts were not brothers. Febeys. Cockatoo-Collins. James and Anthony McD as you say.

We got the dud Gaspar brother that I watched as a 10 year old kick out from fullback, stub his toe, and broke his foot in a reserves game. The few thousand people early for the game would have made quite the face palm meme as we held our heads in unison.

Don't really care about drafting brothers tbh, I just like telling that story...

And you could add in Tom Flower and Brian Stynes as brothers who weren't as successful as their more famous siblings.

Feargal Febey, Regis McDonald.

To me he looks like a Brent Moloney with better pace and ability to follow up (better workrate and fitness) which is what Moloney lacked to become a great midfielder.

A friend of mine who was playing TAC with Chargers said Freeman was one of the best players he'd seen and a really nice bloke (although not much between the ears apparently)

Ability to become a Dangerfield or Shuey. Opposite end of the spectrum would be a stronger Blease. Lets hope its the former if he ends up in the red and blue :)

Having now seen a fair bit of footage, Freeman was the one who interested me the most in and around pick 9. Obviously I think Aish will more than likely go early, but I think Freeman fills our clubs needs the most as a mid and what stands out for me is his evasiveness and speed. Sheed is another. I'd have these guys 1,2 in preferences depending who is available.

Can't say I see the Moloney comparison.

Freeman to me doesn't really look like anyone. I think his vision and awareness when he has a bit of time is pretty good. He's not a lace out laser-foot like Lennon or Salem but he is a much better kick than Moloney. He's very explosive, and seems to play with a lot of confidence and is not afraid.

He seems like a pretty dynamic midfielder to me with not many weaknesses. He's standout attribute is obviously speed but I'd say he's a pretty well-rounded mid. Confidence and physicality is always a good sign too.

He's like a Shuey-Dangerfield-David King cross.

will be interesting to see who we take if Scharenberg and Freeman are both still there at 9

Only basing tgis judgement on the footage but he looks very 1 sided. Looked to go on his right every time even when hi had more space on his left. I appreciate that he is quick but so is Sam Blease. I think Lennon looks much cleaner and classier.

Lennon does look cleaner and classier.

Freeman looks more dynamic and explosive and looks to have some grunt. But at the same time can use the ball.

That's the beauty of the draft. Pick a player who will compliment your list and hope that you get it right.

Since we have Watts, Toumpas and Vince as classy types, I'd love to add an explosive and dynamic mid to our list who can also use the ball well. Blease is a poor mans Freeman. Freeman has many more strengths to his name.

I can see a little of Matt White in Freeman.. I hope I'm wrong..

This is exactly the player I thought of when I watched the footage but I couldn't think of his name.

Scharenberg won't be there but if he was we would take him.

Sounds words STMJ I too want to complement the exisiting and round out the middle.

David King is a good comparison that I hadn't thought of.

Lennon's class with Freeman's physical attributes... That'd be a number 1 pick.

I don't care which of these 2 we take, and I can't see it being anyone else, unless there's a shock slider.

Weighing up Lennon or Freeman

But would love this guy, see already in the MFC gear.

Freeman is the X factor we need..and fir my son and youngsters to watch and want to follow the mighty Demons. Aggressive and pace are a good combination.

I see it in the hips. He's got a very similar gait to Moloney. Outside of that, he appears different in every other way. Thankfully.

I'd like our pick to be one of Scharenberg, Freeman, Aish, Billings or Lennon.

Also dud Ottens brother pick 50 from memory.

Freeman is the perfect fit for our team. He has the x Factor... real pace & aggression.

Yes and will be at the club next year!

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
