Did anyone see Rita Panahi's (spelling?) Opinion piece in yesterdays Herald Sun?

She hits the nail on the head.

Yes and she did Biggestred.

Very good article pity none of the Sports commentators will take any notice.

She maybe one of those rare things these days called a journalist.

As opposed to Mark Robinson's "gee the poor players" stance in this interview...

Against my better judgement I did read that article this morning as I knew it would be an apology piece for the EFC.

Robbo is as transparent as a pain of glass.

However it was interesting because it appears the players are preparing to take legal action to stop ASADA.

I sense all that essendrug is really doing is posturing as well as hopefully finding a chink in ASADAS armour . In a way it has nothing to lose from this. I doubt theyll find anything. Seems they ASADA are doing just the opposite and tightening their ship and stocking the armory .

Windy hill reminds me of the once mighty Spanish navy who showed contempt for their British counterparts.

Little .....prepare for your Trafalgar !!

With respect i propose a diffeent metaphor/allegory - King Canute (Essendon, either Hird or Little) trying to hold the tide coming in...

Sounds like Essendon to me.

Old King Cnut was a bit of a legend at our house (My wife is Norwegian-hence spelling) Other than the tide he had a few victories and was grandson of good old Harald Bluetooth. He probably handed out more merde sandwiches than had to eat. Cnut received bad advice re the tide, I would not be so generous with EFC

Cnut was a smart bloke who ordered the tide to turn back in order to show his followers that he was just a good king, not a miracle worker. Not that there's a lesson there for Dee fans or anything.

Probably the first and last time the Norwegians said anything good about a Dane (i joke, i know most of the Royal family is Danish), my wife is a Finn...

Anyway this was about drugs or something wasn't it?

That's right, Essendon, enjoy those merde sandwiches.

Is Essendon really planning to take on ASADA in court because of a lack of process and unfairness due to delays in coming out with its report?

How are they going to establish a basis in fact for anything when they're the organisation that ran the drug programme and have no records about it?

Strange!

I think ASADA could fairly argue that delays were caused by the tardiness of record keeping by EFC among other things.

So EFC contributed to the delay, they cannot have it both ways, cause the delay and then complain about it.. .

Hahahahaha eddie reckons that if the bombers pay for the players legal fees it will go under the salary cap

Gold

so it should

really hope Eddies on the money here

The AFL could use the salary cap angle for legal fees to deter other legalistic attempts that Essendon may be thinking to use. Legal fees for 20 plus players will be in the millions.

We keep hearing that action is imminent, but it appears not.

Anyway as long as it disrupts Essendon's season, I'm happy with that.

The AFL is going to allow the Bombers to pay the players legal fees outside of the salary cap, again. Disgrace. I recall Demetriou complaining about Sports Scientists having too much control at clubs a year or two before all if this broke they still went a head with the program and yet the AFL is allowing them leeway outside of the rules.

Posted

In my opinion any money that goes from the club to the player is their salary and should fall under their salary cap, anything else I would consider including the bombers footing their legal fees would be a third party deal of sorts and would in my opinion would be a breach of their contract and the rules around the salary cap system.

This is no different to the bombers buying a player a car outside of the salary cap imo.

Both local dailies are going with the queries about whether Essendon's assistance to its players in covering their legal fees over the ASADA investigation comes under its salary cap - AFL refuses to say whether Essendon players’ legal fees will be included in the salary cap and

Bombers seek special exemption on players' legal fees.

I think the players might also need to consider how closely they should be aligned with their club if infraction notices issue. Hopefully, their legal advice will be independent because the interests of club and players might not end up in alignment.

It's an unusual situation here. Should the other 17 AFL clubs help out the club which, on the face of it, appears to have tried to cheat them?

They were certainly not inclined to help Melbourne out last year when the club applied for draft assistance on the back of seven years of mostly poor performances and that was four years after the alleged offence of employing someone who told jokes about winning and losing took place.

On that basis the AFL should be telling Essendon not to expect any consideration whatsoever as the club has already been found guilty of poor governance over its doping programme and is likely to face further charges when ASADA finally gets its act together.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
