Words cannot describe how much I want Jack Watts to re-sign a beefy 4 year contract with the Melbourne Football Club.

Has anyone heard the latest with the contract negotiations?

Stuff incentive based contracts, lets offer Jack the farm. The bloke was treated like utter Cow manure under Neeld (eg- rd 3 dropping v west coast but not playing him at Casey)

I'm loving his last 5 weeks under Craig. Whether it be kicking 4 goals v Dogs or showing his class up the field v brisbane and even having a good crack in the ruck.

Watts is a class player, I think he loves the jumper, and he will be a top 30 afl player in 2 years time.

Jack, make all of your beloved supporters day/month/year and sign the dotted line.

This thread is much better than the "Please resign, Jack Watts" threads that have cropped up numerous times over the past few years.

Whilst I understand the sentiment, offer Jack what is fair and what he deserves but not overs. He does not deserve the farm nor does he deserve a long term deal. Whilst we have mis-managed Jack early on he has also admitted he has not done enough, particularly early on to get the most out of himself. Therefore he should owe us as well. If Clark, Dawes, Fitzy, Hogan, Howe, Watts are fit ask yourself where he plays? Rate your most important players for us now and in the future and realistically decide where he fits in our premiership 18. I would love him to keep the faith and stay and make the most of his talents but I want us to be fair and reasonable with what we do and if he wants to leave milk it for all we can.

This is a good point, we are also in a position that we may need to pay Frawley overs next year to hold onto him, having said that i think Watts would be worth decent coin these days, maybe something abit smaller to what Dawes is on

Then someone will come along with the " well we have to pay the money to someone argument " lol

I have a feeling someone like Carlton will throw alot of money at him, hebis exactly what they need

Got a feeling Carlton, Freo, GWS and gold coast might all be sniffing around, it's comforting that he said publicly he'd like to stay but without any sort of updates it's going to be a worry til pen is put to paper, i imagine the club will understand his importance though.

Jack's turnaround and struggles mirror ours as a club, and while it won't be the end of the world should we lose him, he's a massively symbolic figure for our club and losing him would take away a bit of our soul. Jack re-signing would mean a hell of a lot to MFC and it's supporters, even though he may not be our best player (yet), he's one people identify with.

A required player. Simple.

I don't mind at all if we pay him 'overs'. There would be nothing worse than seeing him go to a side like Freo and dominate.

He's a gun, end of story

The thing that would be worse is if we put him on a fat long contract and he is not in our starting 18 in 2 years. He is not a gun. He has the potential to be an A grader but so have numerous other players we have held onto for way too long.

I agree, he's playing very well but he's still got some way to go before he's a gun. We pay what we think is fair, I would comfortable with a 4 year contract if that's a sticking point but my thoughts are he's going to wait and back himself to play some more good footy to justify higher $$$$.

Having said that I really think that Watts wants to stay, he's always the first person to chat to kids and speak to fans.

There's a difference between paying 'overs' and going too far.

I'm happy for us to offer more than rival clubs to keep him, but we may well be on the brink of climbing off the bottom of the ladder, and we have other important cogs who need to stay with us. We can't afford to spend big on Watts and then in 2014 lose someone else because we used their pay on Watts.

It's a balancing act, one which we should be able to meet.

Just threaten to trade him to GWS if he doesn't want to play here. That's a hell of an incentive to stay. :P

that would be the same threat that was made too $cully...yeah?

Watts will reach superstar level under Roos, Eade or Choco.

I have no doubt.

Keep in mind hes still only 22, just turned it recently.

changing my Watts status now.

Would entertain a trade ...for right deal

Just doesnt put in hard enough long enough for any impact.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
