The Trade/Draft Rumour Mill

Featured Replies

Josh Mahoney on trade radio sometime this arvo

Just tweeted he's on at 3pm

Perfect time to trade him as his currency will never be higher. We have enough tall forwards so he can be used to help us bolster our midfield depth.

Has the versatility and athleticism to play as the Forward who can also go into the Ruck. With Interchange Caps and Subs that versatility is a pretty important. Who else do we have for that role. Mitch Clark could do it but he gives great value as a permanent forward.

No Deal.

Seriously, Jed Lamb has a brother called Sean? I love their parents.

I expect we won't be able to magic up a suitable deal for pick 2 - it needs to be youngish class midfielder with a very strong go home factor that we can attract ahead of other more successful clubs by paying double.

Normally I'd this that's too much of a long shot - but the arrival of Clark, Hogan, Viney in the 2nd round, Dawes and Roos in the past 2 years gives me a glimmer of unreasonable hope.

Pick 2 is HIGHLY likely to go!

Huge news and very surprising. Roos is backing in our young talent, and clearly doesn't rate Aish too highly.

Watch this space.

Cheers for the updates Song and co.

Wallet was talking up a trade/ pick swap with trade 2 so we still get a first rounder. Maybe the have eyes on a kid in the 10-16 pick range but can double up with another young (20-30 games) gun.

It makes sense to trade pick 2 for a player and a mid first round pick.

It's an even draft where pick 2 could be just as good as pick 10-16

Wallace- "With pick 2 you would expect melbourne would get a star, or a star on the rise."
Barret- "Plus a pick back as well, most likely another clubs first rounder."
- "It sounded like the MFC have already planned who they will target and have set the wheels in motion.

You'd have to imagine it'd be a contracted player." (paraphrasing)

Just worries me whenever Barret opens his mouth, noting ever good really comes out.

Great to hear

Maybe we can have a prediction thread to see who is closest to the pin

My prediction -

Melbourne trade pick 2 and 20 to West Coast for Andrew Gaff and pick 6

The feeling I got out of that interview is that we are already in fair advanced with a club or player and close to getting a deal done with pick 2. Will be interesting to see who though. I mean you wouldn't just say its highly likely we will trade pick 2 when you already haven't got someone in mind.

Anyone else get that feeling?

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

  • REPORT: Richmond

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.

It's Game Day and the 2026 AFL Premiership season is almost upon us as the Demons take to the field for their final practice match before the first ball is kicked in anger in 16 days time. What are you expecting to see from the Dees today as they take on the Tigers at Mars Stadium in Ballarat?
