we will be trading pick 2 and Mark Jamar to Adelaide for Brad Crouch and Bernie Vince

Interesting rumour and in a weird way kinda makes sense. Think we are probably paying overs there - add a pick to that and it seems ok.

Why would the Crows cough up an early pick and put all that time into Crouch just to trade him a few years later? I know his rumour was rubbish but there is absolutely no chance they would trade Crouch.

THat is the problem - all the teams with young mids in the age bracket we are after will feel that way - that they've invested time improving them from raw talented kids to young afl players. Its a toughie. Terry Wallace said it is - so it probably isn't :)

Mahoney on trade radio:

  • Said inbound calls from players wanting to join the club.
  • Discussion was clear with colin Sylvia that they had a plan and contract for him.
  • Pick 2 is still up for trade and more likely it will be a player and couple of picks.
  • if the right deal is out there pick 2 will be traded. wont be given away easy.
  • Tom Rockliff has been contacted by the MFC. Though wants to stay at Brisbane apparently.
  • Daniel Cross is right in our sights.
  • Mark Jamar could still be traded. Didn't hose down the thought of Jamar being traded.
  • Well sorted in the rucks and Jolly don't think will be in our sights.
  • Jack watts to play a David Mundy type midfield role.
  • Captains will be picked in a month time. Both jacks no certainty to remain captains.
  • Nathan Brown see's a bit of light at the end of the tunnel if added extra midfield.
  • Working through the Swans with Dew. Preferred candidate. Tudor wasn't spoken about.
  • Haven't spoken to Bassett.
  • Haven't spoken to Adelaide regarding Sloane.

Not at all happy to hear the bolded bit. The guy is looking to come into the AFL and he did an amazing job with Norwood. Absolutely negligent of them not to have a serious look at him.

So does the trade period continue over the weekend or do they take a break?

This trade period is about as exciting as watching paint dry.

They could all take a week or two of annual leave and come back at 1pm on the last day of the trade period and still achieve as much.

It reminds me of e-bay auctions - the real action only occurs at the '11th hour'. The earlier time is only jousting and posturing.

We're being linked to Jarryd Lyons from Adelaide as a third party to the Polec deal. Solid prospect from East Bentleigh/Sandringham, pretty sure his father is Marty who played 27 games for the Dee’s in the late 70’s.

Correct, his dad is Marty and Jarryd is a good footballer who appears to be the first dropped and the last to be promoted

BIG PASS

ISSUES!

Are you suggesting that Big Pass has issues or are you talking about someone else?

Bassett has issues (apparently). It is the reason clubs haven't been trying to snap him up. They were talking about it on SEN today. Can't remember who it was. I got the feeling that he wasn't really a team player when it came to the coaching side of things and hence the difficulty in stepping in as an assistant and taking orders etc...

Lets deal with facts.

We have pick 2.

Who really wants to recruit on of the best young players in the leauge?

Adelaide want Aish. Ok. Well we can give you Aish (conditional to asking GSW), how about we trade for;

Sloane or Crouch

We can sweeten the deal if you like. How about Jamar and pick 50odd aswell?

===================================

Or, if GWS are not going to pick Boyd, we can offer boyd up for trade.

Who wants Boyd?

Carlton

Bulldogs

StKilda

Brisbane

Fremantle

Ok, lets do a deal.

Carlton, how about you give us Duigan & Robinson and pick 12, for pick 2, (for example)

and so on.

Stkilda, how about a straight swap for Stevens. You might end up with another Plugger!

Duigan & Robinson are NQR"s and I'd rather have pick 2 than 12.

Agree with this. I think there are a few more dominoes to fall in terms of picks and players before we go for Vince. At 28 he isn't worth the second pick in the draft. Mahoney mentioned we might be getting players and picks so it may be Vince, another player a second round pick (or something like that) for pick 2.

That would be crap. Recruit a 28 yr and get a second round pick from whom. I thought Adelaide were out of the first 2 rounds. So another club provides Adelaide with a 2nd round pick for a player and they ontrade that to us. Meanwhile in 2-3yrs when pick 2 matures into a star we retire Vince and the 2nd rounder is an average player. Not what I think we should contemplate.

Only problem is, it'd be like us giving up Hogan. Crouch was obviously their mini draft pick too.

Did Mahoney say they hadn't spoken to him regarding the Senior Assistant position? I didn't hear the interview, but he might be playing funny buggers there. Have we interviewed him for another position? Either way, I'm not concerned.

Won't happen. We offered pick 2 for Brad Crouch and were rejected. He was their mini draft pick and they've invested heavily in him.

In his first year of playing AFL he has averaged just under 25 disposals 4-5 tackles a game. he has already proven himself. Why would Adelaide trade him for unproven talent? They could only hope Aish turns out to be anywhere near that good, and it's extremely unlikely.

Just to show how good his first year was, here is a comparison with our own Nathan Jones.

A first year player got more ball than our best player and only decent midfielder.

We'd be laughing to get him for pick 2, let alone packaging other stuff into the deal in our favor.

Stats aren't everything - I remember in that game against us he was quite wasteful by foot. But I agree with your overall sentiment.

I'm hoping we pick up his younger bro this draft.

Bit of a stretch trying to compare Crouch to Jones.... Jones would be tagged almost every week, Crouch has Dangerfield, Sloane, Vince, Thompson etc around him, he isn't the obvious choice for a tag...

One things for sure, won't be seeing any trades between the Swans and Dees - Stirred up a hornets nest there

Probably a good thing, Roos has to leave the Swans in every way, he can't be emotionally attached to them if he is going to give his all for Melbourne.

He can go back there and mend fences after his coaching career and future positions with us are fulfilled, or he may become a passionate D, who knows.

Good point, he does still come across as being very Swancentric - missing out on Dew might be the final necessary kick in the ass on the way out the gate

There's definitely a fine line between having the inside running/ knowledge on players and coaches that you have worked with.... and that of thinking all the Swans guys are the Bees Knees just because he was involved with them all.
