The James Aish Thread

Aish was just left out by Brisbane, have they resigned to him leaving and giving other players a go?

It smells bad doesn't it..... Especially with Rocky and Handley out you think they'd keep him in

Am I missing something here? If he wanted out of Brisbane wouldn't it to go back to Adelaide? What is it about coming to Melbourne that's got this rumour going- does he know someone here or something?

Just because you're from some where doesn't necessarily mean you want to go back there.

Maybe he preferred to be drafted by a Victorian side so he could live here?

Nah definitely wouldn't say no, depends what it's going to cost though. Can imagine they wouldn't want anything less than a top 10 pick, not sure there's many players in our list they'd want that we'd give up either.

I agree. I'd have Shiel and Treloar higher on my shopping list than Aish. I'd give up my first pick in a flash to get either of the former. Aish... I'd be looking at an end of first rounder or early second rounder. He hasn't exactly set the world alight.

Recruiting blokes like Aish, Shiel or Treloar should be our highest priority. Not only do you inject someone with a decent amount of AFL exposure and ready to make an impact (see Tyson), but you are also still building a quality team with youth. I wouldn't mind for the next 2-3 years throwing any draft pick we have and bundling them to recruit these type of guys, young with 2-3 seasons under their belt.

I don't mind the idea, as long as you don't leave a dearth of talent on your list in a certain age bracket. We did this during the Daniher era, albeit without recruiting anyone of the class of Shiel or Treloar.

Interesting he has been omitted.. I wonder if it's form or a bit of a lesson because he refuses to sign

I think it's fair enough if they have dropped him because he's leaving.. Why should a club put games into his development for him to leave at the end of the year?

Should we do the same with Howe if the club thinks he's going to move at the end of the year?

Adelaide = a place to come from, not a place to go (back) to. Thompson left us and only went home for legit family reasons, and no matter how much $$ was thrown over the years at blokes like Pavlich & Gibbs to return home, not many players have ever wanted to go back to Adelaide in recent years.

Yes, if we find ourselves at a point where it is statistically impossible to make finals (I already know it is highly likely) and we know Howe is going, he should be dropped to give experience to the person who will take his role when he leaves.

Theoretically if both Selwood and Aish wanted to come to Melbourne, getting one wouldn’t cost the other as Selwood is an RFA and Aish would likely need to be traded for. If you asked me to pick between the two I’d choose Aish as he has more years ahead of him and a tonne of class. He has the potential to influence games on a regular basis.

That said I think the best midfielder who figures to be on the market at this stage is Treloar. Would take him over Dangerfield. Shiel would be high up on my list as well.

I like your thinking chaserJ, I've gone off dangerman. concerned for his hammy's later. the saloone ranger could be handy

I too would prefer an Aish type; Shiel, & mids with a point of difference to what we have.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
