Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The Dismissal of 2013 not unlike that of 1976

TPM posted very early in Neeld's tenure that his appointment was Dennis Jones all over again. Jones was a similar mistake some 36 years ago. After this Big Carl took the reins and immediately looked fearsome.

Neeld for all his big talk was certainly no Big Carl. Lots of talk about the hardest team to play against but sadly we quickly became the opposite.

I was nailed to the cross by most in Demonland for simply pointing out obvious selection blunders, recruiting blunders and various strategic blunders. Blunder after blunder. Why couldn't anyone here(apart from Tonatopia) see this? Just interested? What were you guy's thinking?

Does anyone concede this very same problem has existed in the Melbourne FC hierarchy since 1965? Failure to see the bl oody obvious?

After Brisbane round one last year, the stagnant game pattern, hit the boundary at all costs mimicking Collingwood's Style. IMO most in this forum just couldn't bring themselves to believe it.The great white hope! Mark Neeld. Some 75% here even demanded Neeld was the man to revive MFC similar to many whites in Jack Johnson's era who tried to invent someone to topple the Galveston Giant. "Neeld is the man to revive Melbourne back to it's glory years." The Posts defending Neeld just kept coming. Melbourne kept on losing and the margins became larger. Melbourne not only kept losing by large margins but it was the lack of any method, strategies heart that made us appear somewhat soulless. Neeld had no punch or zip. After match conferences were senseless. Pre game addresses lacked fire. They seemed scripted, boring and school teacher like. To the contrary players ran out onto the ground revved down not up.

Tonatopia and TPM stood firm and waded through the various topics heaping praise on Neeld for doing what "needed to be done".

Sellar, Gillies, Pederson, Rodan, Byrnes will all make way for future Melbourne stars next year. Sylvia, Hogan, Clark/Dawes, Toumpass, Viney, Watts, Blease, Gawn, taggert, Clisby, Frawley, Howe, Terlich, the Jones boys, Trengrove,Mac donald Grimes and Garland will form a potent force as early as next year with the right Coach and Administration.

Neeld had to go just like Dennis. Dennis at least won 5 games in his first and only season.

Good luck to Neil Craig instilling some confidence back into boys. Am tipping to fire up V Bullies and pull off un upset.

"YAAAAAAAWWWWWWNNNNNN"

Did you need to start a thread for something that had been repeated quite frequently here? Or you just wanted to heap praise on yourself in a forum spotlight? Congratulations TPM, you've started another "good riddance neeld" thread 10 days AFTER his sacking and you've made no real contribution to anything new or previously untapped. The worst thing about this back patting post, is I can't get the time I wasted spent reading this back on my life. So thanks, thanks for wasting my time reading the same old dribble, and thanks for heaping more kudos on yourself that your posts are usually full of!

Allow me to retort. Posters of your ilk were slammed for posting hysterical nonsense in the opening stanza of Neeld's tenure. It was an untenable scenario to sack a first year coach 5 minutes into his reign. Who was going to replace him in 2012 anyway? Malthouse? I'm not going to bother pointing out the obvious reasons why that wouldn't have happened.

I had no problems with posters such as Rhino Richards being skeptical of Neeld because usually it was backed up with more in depth analysis than: "We're crap. It's all Neeld's fault. We should sack him now. Mick is waiting. Herp de derp tee tiddly derp."

I often railed against those who were hijacking every thread with their pointless sack Neeld agenda in 2012.

Just because some wanted to give Neeld more time than half a season to prove himself didn't make them naive idiots who thought he was a lay down misere to take us to a flag. Just because some were calling for his head 5 minutes in to his tenure and he was subsequently gone 18 months later doesn't make them footballing Nostradamuses whom everybody should bow down to.

The Neeld era was a tragedy and a travesty but if headkicking your fellow supporters whose greatest crime was optimism about a new coach while giving yourself the title of football prophet floats your dinghy - carry on!

Pretty much on the money there Jimmi. While I have had a go at people on this board who howled others down for being 'negative', what annoys me now is this revisionist history now being spouted about how 'we knew!!!'. Sacking a coach 8 weeks in would have been ridiculous. Clearly after 148 points, the horse had bolted but to say you knew from week 1, 2012 is just you stumbling over your d*** and getting one right.

"Some 75% here even demanded Neeld was the man to revive MFC similar to many whites in Jack Johnson's era who tried to invent someone to topple the Galveston Giant"

Black and white (invented or not) were not allowed to 'topple' each other during the majority of the Galveston Gians's era

You have expressed yourself, but obviously didn't or don't allow others to express themselves if it is at odds with your view, is this correct?

Hindsight is a wonderful thing isn't it

Pity most of us were aboard the Blunder-bus

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
