According to this South Australian article David Noble is a possible target as the new List Manager.

But he has been left holding the bag, in that he has to manage a list but doesn't have picks in the first 2 rounds of this years draft.

As Chippy suggests hes been left to sort the mess , one not completely of his own doing. For all we know he may have thought it wiser to get something of a trade and have been overruled by those above. Who knows ( well someone would lol ) But I dont...

Is it 6 or 12 months? Either period does not logically make sense if there is intent to re hire.

I'm sorry but there's one fundamental problem with this rumor. If Tim Harrington has legitimately been made redundant and there is not longer a "list manager" role in the club, then Noble could not be brought in as a "list manager", because that would mean that the club would open itself up to an unfair dismissal case for Harrington. It would cast doubts over the legitimacy of the redundancy.

Also, from the article it is clear that we are not actually looking at Noble to be a list manager, rather we are looking at him for the Football Operations Manager role.

So if he moves from list manager to GM of footy what skills does he need and does he have those skills?

Does he have the management skills required to be in charge of a recruiter, sports science, development, input with the coaching?

I like the crows list its full of young talent but they also lost Bock and Davis to expansion and stuffed this whole Tippett thing.

Was the real brains behind the operation Matt Rendell who was doing the recruiting and kept finding the talent?

I'm not referring to the taxation side of it, but if the club was to claim that an employee was made redundant, which under the Fair Work Act effectively means that the job is not required by the employer to be performed by anybody, to then employ someone in that same role means that the redundancy is not a genuine redundancy as it does not fulfil the requirements under the Fair Work Act.

Therefore, if the club was to appoint someone as a list manager soon after removing Tim Harrington as list manager, it would be up for a potential unfair dismissal case. However there are limitations on when an individual can lodge a claim and my recollection is that it must be within 21 days of the dismissal taking effect.

I think there is a confusion because the job titles seem the same. I think Harringtons role was more skewed towards the contractual and money side of things. I think Noble is far more involved with ehe actual list.

But I think we will get around this pretty easily. All decisions in FD should be made collectively, from recruiting to list management to training times and methods of training. Hopefully our new GM and coach can work collectively and have understandings of a wide range of methods.

LOL, not quite that simple as applicants can ask for an extension of time due to "extenuating circumstances".

No doubt that if a redundancy is proved not to be genuine, there would be consequences from a tax perspective given the lump sum payments do not usually attract tax.

Yes, I do not envision there to be a List Manager position at the club next year. It should be absorbed by another role.

I would be making List Managment apart of the Recruitment/PP Head's job.

BTW - We need to get industry leading people in these positions and save money on those below them. From 2012 we have had:

GMFO (Head of the FD) - No-one

Head Coach - Neeld

Recruiting/Player Personnel Head - Harrington, and Viney.

3 Assistant Coaches - Brown, RAWLINGS, and Royal.

1 or 2 Development Coaches - Satterley, Nichol, and Greaves

Player Welfare/Development Manager - Viney

High Performance Manager (Head Trainer) - MISSON

Only Misson and Rawlings would be considered industry leading in that chosen area. Assistant/Dev coaches are hard to measure obviously but I chose Rawlings as IIRC he was the only one of those we coaxed from another club.

I calculate the payment of those people to be around the $2-2.3m a year. That's a lot to pay for a largely untried group (add another $300-400k for Craig in his Sports Performance role - I have made it defunct in my set up). And one without a boss.

As others summise the old role of List manager will be morphed into a larger more encompassing role. ( meaning other roles will change and go also )

Its not particularly what the club would want that will work. Various people will prefer contracts or go elsewhere.
