Greg Wells is a demon, and a good bloke, the guy played 200 games for us.

Apart from being an MFC man what are his credentials? You could appoint Jeff Hilton and Jace Bode for being Melbourne people, but if they're not qualified then G&GF.

Personally I couldn't give a toss if board members are not diehard supporters, as long as merger/relocation etc.. always has to go through a member's vote (at the moment merger does, relocation doesn't - but where are we going to, Fiji?). Doesn't mean I support Kennett but if somebody with qualifications is in it for the right reasons, not just getting their head on TV, I'd consider them.

As much as I loved Todd Viney, imo, Wells should certainly have been named in the TOC ahead of Viney. He was simply a better player.

Why don't we share the Presidency with Jeff Kennett, Greg Wells, Geoff Freeman and Alan Stockdale. 3 months of the year each.

Seriously though I do have faith in some members of our board - Peter Spargo has been interim CEO before, Guy Jalland was Kerry Packer's right hand man, Greg Healy, David Thurin, Russell Howcroft, Karen Hayes, John Trotter these are all outstanding business people.

So instead of these people just tossing around names for President I'd either like to see them as individuals campaign to join our current board or form a ticket and give us members something to vote for!

Nor do I, my old boss use to train his race horses, the guy was always up for a chat , especially about the Demons, I know his business was successful then, that was about a decade ago, could do a lot worse.

He knicked off to the Blues for a Premiership so calling him "Red and Blue" or whatever is rubbish. Do you reckon he will celebrate 200 games with a poor, lowly MFC, or the premiership with the Blues in 1981?

Stan Alves, Gerard Healey are in the same boat. Great players but their heart is NOT red and blue.

If we reject Kennet for being Brown and Gold, should we have any more tolerance for people who jumped ship for a flag?

Greg Wells was TOLD by the MFC that he was being traded to Carltank he had no choice, he was sold off for a bag of silver.

His choices were pretty restricted as it was June. He was what Carltank needed to win the flag.

So he didn't just "nick off for a flag" it wasn't his decision, he was our captain!!

Stan Alves didn't jump ship, he was pushed. And he luckily landed on his feet at North!

I also remember Greg Wells saying that while at Carlton he kept a keen eye on the performance of Melbourne as he still cared for us. I reckon Greg's heart is very much red and blue!

I was at the last training session that Gerard Healy attended at MFC, when he jogged off the field he bared his behind.

I was behind the goals in the Glass House at Junction Oval. He was sending us a message.

I've lost all respect for the guy to this very day!

Along with Flower he was a childhood idol. After Greg Parke's 26 I had 11 on my back.

Met him for the first time in 2008 at the 150 year celebrations at Crown.

I went to school with Greg ( Bentleigh High). He was a star footballer, a great guy and ran a successful small business. I don't beleive he is pesidential material.

However, I could be proven wrong!

Glad to be corrected if he was pushed, rather than jumped.

But it was not "complete rot". Alves chose to go - he said so in his interview on SEN, and that he "will always hold a soft spot for Melbourne". Just because they were champs doesn't mean we have to believe they are red and blue through to the bone.

And Barrassi is intersting. Probably the best Dees player ever. He was red and blue, but he is multi-coloured these days. He is more dedicated to footy in general than to the MFC.

The same article quotes Wells as saying that it was 'more unlikely than likely' that he would return in any capacity. IMO forget about ex-stars and former Board members (Wells was both) and get somebody who relishes a challenge and has the ego ( and track record) to succeed! Demonlanders should remove their blinkers and put prejudices aside and get behind Kennett. By all means invite Wells back onto the board but only for his football nous and as a football department liaison capacity!
