I have an article by a couple of sports psychologists about organisational culture change - it was a really good read. It began by saying that little is known about this topic in the sports psych literature BUT increasingly sports psychs are being called on to give their opinions on it. I'll dig it up and get some edited highlights. One point I do remember (I think) was that culture change without board level involvement was either inefficient or impossible. I think it also said that functional teams are born from within strong cultures but that the cultures were dependent on the make up of the leaders within the playing group.

over many beers we decided our list was rubbish and would wait for juniors to come through

next season brought a new coach which nobody liked btw

he gave us these stupid new ideas and said we could compete with the rest of the league

i still didnt like him , he got me bf s job, buuuutttt, we did compete and the closer we got the more we won

amazing what a bit of confidence will do and a coach who cares and makes you feel wanted

The Board obviously needs to be restructured. What we haven't really addressed on Demonland is how. Most people talk in sweeping terms about "getting in a new board". The credentials of each individual on the current board are impressive. The collective record of the board is miserable. Do some members of the board stay or do we replace the lot? How can we gauge the effectiveness of individuals on the board?

The club needs to find a board member with football experience who can drive the club in terms of the football department. The current board are all highly credentialed in business but don't have any experience in being associated with a premiership winning club or administration. I realise this is not essential as the football department have the responsibility to do this, however I believe having a board member such as Dunstall at Hawthorn is a large part of their current success & the MFC could learn from this. If Leigh Matthews or David Parkin were available I'd like to see the club pay them to join the board or at least seek their advice to hand down recommendations to Peter Jackson.

I am sure that Don, and some others would gladly stand aside for the right new board members. Hopefully not a full turn-over of all positions as some continuity is clearly needed and besides there are a few who are relatively new and so can't be blamed for the current situation.

A smooth hand-over to a new board which replaces a number of key personnel, with a newly defined role and structure would prove heaps about the potential for the club to be turned around.

A wholesale takeover with an extraordinary general meeting and a vote required will set us back even further.

No-one 'deserves' a Priority Pick.

They are there to help keep the League even (or even it up) in the case of a consistetn struggler.

I am sorry to all those clubs who are trying to push this agenda to not give us a pick by saying we are our own enemy - it is irrelevant.

We are the protypical team to get a PP.

If we don't get a PP then no-one will ever get one.

How ironic that we will receive funds from the AFL this year and get a PP. Despite not tanking again.

We will not and don't deserve a priority pick.

Why do you say that? The PP is now to be given to clubs who have a period of failure. We have been crap for 7 years.

IMO we are a monty to get a PP. Maybe even more than a PP. I could see us getting a second at the end of round one.

If we don't get one, no one ever will again.

This says to me that we have asked for draft picks to re-establish some competitiveness. I wonder whether it is more than just the chance of a PP.

Perhaps we will ask for our own little Mini Draft in which we have picks that we must trade out.

It would be interesting to know what was the submission from Jackson, to say the least.

Certainly an irony of not only the asking of a PP but the likely hood we'd get them.

Im of the feeling the AFL will grant nearly all of what PJ asks. after all it was they that put him there with the view to sort it out and knowing that he would most probably coe back with a shopping list. They wont give everything so PJ will most likely ask for a bit 'too much" with expectations of a symbolic rejection of this or that.

    Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force for training at Gosch's Paddock on Wednesday morning for the MFC's School Holidays Open Training Session.     Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training.     There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training.     A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session.
