spirit of norm smith 16,680 Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 Dylan Shiel, 20 year old. Strong midfielder. Good pace and excellent stoppage work. "A" grade disposal, including long left foot. He was drafted to the Giants with one of their pre-selections in the 2010 draft. under 18's record: For Dandenong at TAC Cup level in 2010 he played seven matches with his averages again all elite, recording 30 disposals, 10 handball receives and 12 groundball gets per match. His 13 contested possessions per match also ranked number one in the competition Trade for pick 2 or 3 whatever it takes.
thevil1 421 Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 Agree, whatever gets it done. And try to nab good mature FA mid.

Moonshadow 17,678 Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 Would be a very, very big task. Worth a try, though.
DeeSpencer 26,692 Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 Pick 2 would be fair compensation if he was to leave but in no way would it make GWS want to trade him. They'd say thanks but no thanks. He'd have to want to come back to Melbourne and then somehow we'd have to convince he we are the right club for him. I'd say we focus on players we could work a deal out for rather than try and get someone we can't. You'd put a question to his manager and move on. The one from GWS most linked with going home is Dom Tyson. He's no Shiel but would be a bargain for a second round pick.
What 18,810 Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 I would say make him an offer he cant resufe, but GWS have an endless salary cap so they will match anything. Unless he wants to come home of course. If we get this kid ill throw a party.

IMO GWS would not want draft picks, they would want established players, much like us, thus making trading for him very hard. We are of better hope going for Tyson as you said and offering up some players with the pick (2nd round) as a sweetener.
Pennant St Dee 13,461 Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 I'd love to get hold of Shiel & Hannaberry to our club along with those we already have
Nasher 33,686 Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 What are we offering that will make him want to come?
Bitter but optimistic 22,289 Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 What are we offering that will make him want to come? A shot at playing finals!!!!!
Satan 2,921 Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 Dylan Shiel worth a nibble if we lose Sylvia?
stuie 7,374 Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 I would think if you don't even really know the players name then you probably don't have any credible inside info...
stuie 7,374 Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 Also, he's contracted until the end of 2015.
stuie 7,374 Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 Didn't he just sign for 2 yrs? He re-signed last year until the end of 2015. That's if it's Dylan Shiel we're talking about....
Don24 103 Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 On the Dylan Shiel, i heard Chocco at a footy function recently say he (Shiel) will be coming back to Victoria end of next season in a trade and GWS will begin to trade midfielders back over next few years to fill gaps in their list. He claimed they have 13-15 midfielders on their list that they think will be extremely good players and their strategy was to spend 2 years deciding which ones they want to keep. Also said buddy is long gone but we all know that by now.
Ted Lasso 19,586 Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 Remember the GWS factor when you get excited about these young mids wanting trades, these boys listen to Sheeds and the scum dog millionaire badmouth the MFC on a daily basis, it's extremely unlikely they will have any interest in coming near us unless we either A pay crazy overs or B start winning games of football.
Don24 103 Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Winning games will be the key, hopefully over next 12 months there can be enough development to give potential players (from all clubs) faith we are heading in the right direction
Mr Clark Kent 75 Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 It was a bad day all round for the Giants, who not only lost out on Franklin but are understood to have been told by rising star midfielder Dylan Shiel that he wants to be traded to a Victorian club. Shiel, 20, who finished fourth to Jeremy Cameron in this year's best-and-fairest award, is understood to have told the Giants he wants to return home after 33 games in two years. http://www.theaustralian.com.au/sport/afl/swans-buddy-coup-crushes-gws/story-fnca0u4y-1226731132042#sthash.b14pkNgt.dpuf Would love him at the club. This kid is going to be a gun. Big bodied midfielder.
adsy 145 Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Pick 2, no questions asked. Gut running hard at it mid with a beautiful left peg. Capable playing inside and out. Exactly what we need and ready to go. No brainer for mine.
Adam The God 30,752 Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Would be a good pick up. #2 is overs though and our second round pick is probably unders. Unless we can package a player and a pick, I can't see us being able to satisfy a trade. Be nice to have a bloke from my old school in the red and the blue though.
Weekends at Bernie's 64 Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Shiel, 20, who finished fourth to Jeremy Cameron in this year's best-and-fairest award, is understood to have told the Giants he wants to return home after 33 games in two years. http://www.theaustralian.com.au/sport/afl/swans-buddy-coup-crushes-gws/story-fnca0u4y-1226731132042#sthash.b14pkNgt.dpuf Would love him at the club. This kid is going to be a gun. Big bodied midfielder. There has already been a Dylan shiel page created. However this kid is a gun, averaged just under 20 touches a game and kicks goals. Think pick 2 is prob too much, but maybe if they throw in a later 1st rnd pick. Problem is GWS are going to want experienced players in return which we don't really have, just hope another club like collingwood don't trump us with a Shaw or someone. Watch this page take off like a JET when everyone wakes up to the news
What 18,810 Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Pick 2 and 20 (?) for Shiels and Adams That would be sweet
Good Times Grimes 2,396 Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Would LOVE Shiel at the Dees...he's a gun. It's so nice seeing players want out of GW$...I hate them so much.
adsy 145 Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Not sure why everyone is convinced pick 2 is too much. I'd do it in a heartbeat. 2 years in the system and shown he can find and use the footy playing in a very poor team. With Shiel is already shown he's going to be a gun, much less risk than an Aish (who I'm a big fan of) or Scharenberg who are unproven at AFL level.
