Yep McLardy's a top bloke & a very genuine person but so out of his depth it's not funny.

I'm sure he is a good guy but he acts like an insurance broker who's moonlighting as a footy club president.

cough cough. we didn't fail at "list managing"... we failed to pick enough footballers with our choices.

... the clubs failed to get the right people into the Key jobs.... Neil Balme good ordinary coach, Excellent Footy Manager. Neil Daniher, good ordinary coach, very good in the footy dept.

we find good nice people, but put them into the wrong job...

we don't have any footy direction, just business people, with a slumping supporter base, & still no supporters Social Hub at the Training/Office Ground.

I feel much better after hearing these words.


Just watched the video and, I have to say, I'm really impressed! That said, I can only go by how he sounds and he sounds like he understands what it takes to make an AFL club strong.

Key points:

  • Our staff are generally inexperienced.
  • This inexperience is exacerbated by the trauma experienced by the club since 186. It was interesting how fluently he listed the traumas, almost as though he had just read a backgrounding document. He suggested that staff may only be outwardly showing resilience but may be overwhelmed internally.
  • The playing list is also relatively inexperienced.
  • The recovery is straightforward (my word) but it will take time and hard work. He sympathises with us supporters for the challenges that we have faced but suggests that there are no short-cuts.

Isn't it great to have someone inside the club make some candid observations and not "gilding the lily".

I still believe that Melbourne FC's situation is somewhat the result of some bad decisions but more so the result of some rotten luck. It feels good to have an experienced footy person come into the CEO role to set our direction out of this mire.

I just don't understand how we have got ourselves into this situation.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall over the next 6mths as I reckon Schwab has a lot to answer for.

How about before every game we get to choose one player from the opposition that has to play for us for that game?

Yet some still think he was a good CEO and still back him up. Amazing!!!!!!!!!

I am still so angry about his appointment and then the extensions to his (Schwab's) contract, how bloody incompetent. At last we finally have someone from outside the club who has a clear view of what is going on. No more Mr it's not my fault Lyon thank god for that, good footballer Gary but no idea about the game and to think some think he could have been a good coach. At least he was smart enough to work that one out for himself.

Really interested to see who will head up the FD.

I think Jackson would like to get that in place before he takes on the coaching position but the pressure might be too great now.

This guy is going to be putting the feelers out for Roos, CHoco, Worsfold and the like to take over from Neeld.

Hes not going to mess about.


Isn't it nice to have strong, insightful and honest leadership from the CEO. Now I know how it feels to follow the Cats etc "off field".....maybe one day "on field".

Give him the job and move on.

Interesting that he said on mmm before the game that he has no personal attachment to the club so any changes he makes he will do.

He was also asked if he was offered the position would he take it. Now when he took this on he said he would only fill in and isnt interested in it full lime. Now he seems to have changed his mind because he said he would weigh it up and see but could be interested.

Sadly he likes the challenge that is in front of him trying to fix this club. I would have thought it was torture.

He has not changed his mind. He has said the things needed to rectify MFC will take longer than six months. He has said no more on his tenure despite the Press's effort to force him. FMD he has only been in the job less than 2 weeks

His job would be easier if McLardy and Neeld wouldquckly negotiate their exits.....I mean quickly.

On Neeld I agree. Surely he has to realise staying aboard this ship is just screwing his future. Cut and deal now and his reputation might be good enough to get an assistant job pretty quickly. Blame the failure on the mess of the club.

On McLardy, whilst I think he's been poor I will say he's a good person and volunteers his time to help the club. The line of candidate isn't that long. As president McLardy is the peoples representative. In some ways it's not about him negotiating his exit but every Melbourne supporter doing what they can to get the best possible board.

Its oversimplifying but AFL club boards are no different to local footy boards in a lot of ways and supporters make the boards. I see the same thing with politics, the community at the moment are almost daring Gillard and Abbott in a race to the bottom. We can't afford that. We can't throw up an Abbott to fight against McLardy's Gillard. We all need to get involved and engaged in the process as members then we will continue to improve the board.

Despite the on field mess our board (as a collective) can still take us forward. Based on recent history especially it could be worse!

Listened to him in the Hassatt room at half time today, very impressive. As has already been stated he said we need more experienced people from great clubs such as Geelong & Hawthorn, people that know how to make things happen. I feel Josh Mahoney the current Football manager may be out of a job by seasons end and someone more experienced will step in. Also said previous CEO had to much control over the footy department. He is going to restructure the admin side of the club to save money which will help balance sheet going forward. Also said first aim is to clear up all distractions and off field dramas that have haunted the club for last 2 years.

Russell Howcroft was also there and refused to answer questions when asked about the appointment of Neeld and what will happen going forward with Neeld as he is part of the board that are responsible for hiring him. Howcroft mentioned that he understands that his position on the board may be no longer as there may be re elections come years end. Overall he seemed a little bit uncomfortable and has no answers or valuable input on our current state.

I left feeling good after listening to Jackson, smart man , straight shooter who will take no prisoners and is on a mission to get things right.

It depends on who is targeted and what the role will be but I would not be surprised to see Josh gone in the next couple of weeks. There will be a restructure and Jackson will get that done asap.

 

No one needs to leave immediately. We need to move forward in an emotionless, methodical manner - which is the pervasive message I got from Jackson today.

We need a decent structure, we need to tailor everything we do to getting better at footy and move from there.

We can set up 2014 towards the end of this season and at the end of this season.

Let Jackson do his job and not just think it is going to be about removing other people from theirs. It will happen but it isn't an answer in-and-of-itself, we need to make that decision when we know where to move next.

This is bad news for our community development team, twitter team, matt burgon and staff, our casey manager, our whiteboard wednesday cleaner, our darwin ambassador and our craig's corner sound effect generator.

The good news is that we should have a proper head of football (at the moment Mahoney is the paper pusher whilst Craig runs the drinks and Viney does something else etc), a proper list manager (Tim Harrington is shite) and some half decent coaches (be they senior or assistant).

    On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.
