Flower...yeah!!!

FFS. Can somebody please tell me when a past player then led that club as president to a premiership!?

We don't need another ex-player 'hero'. Let alone a questionable (but sure, yes, passionate) one like Schwarz. We had Stynes and look where he got us.

Didn't see it, what was the gist ?

Billy Brownless interviewed him while for whatever reason the Jurassic Park song was playing. First question was what happened in the interview, what was said, how are you getting involved? He replied diplomatically with he'll get involved however he can and said something about the football department struggling that I'm too drunk to remember, and then the rest of the questions were about his time on the footy show and if the pie in the face was reaaally a set up. Gave him a blue footy show cap and then gave one to the rest of the panelists and that was it. Utter shite.

  1. Lyon promises to land Clarkson.
  2. Lyon fails to land Clarkson
  3. Lyon sits down for a coffee with Malthouse and asks who is the pick of the league's (or maybe just his) assistants.
  4. Malthouse nominates Neeld.
  5. Lyon speaks to a few people who worked with him. Good reports.
  6. Neeld tells Lyon he's in the final 2 for the Adelaide gig and needs to make a decision (he's bluffing).
  7. Lyon offers him the job.
  8. Calls Jim to tell him he's appointed Neeld.
  9. Jim says okay, tells him to let Don know his decision.
  10. Don signs off on it.

If you can provide actual evidence for any of those points, why not share it with us.

Honestly, I can't believe people are still clinging to this idea of Schwarz as the club president. It is beyond ridiculous.

Yes, but to be fair, no more ridiculous then many of the suggestions getting a run here at the moment. And not just in this thread either.

Wins unite supporters!

Jimmy was a great fundraiser, a tin rattler. He showed that with Reach and again with the MFC. And on the face of it, he was good for the club.

But he sent us down this bloody path...

  • The botched appointments were on his clock.
  • The botched sackings were on his clock.
  • G Lyon was got involved on his clock.
  • Tanking happened on his clock.
  • The rot started on his clock and set in on his right hand man (Don's).

Sure Ox could play and sure he had ticker but come on!

Mate I'm not a fan of McLardy but if his boards primary goal isn't to build a club that can win a premiership, then what the hell is it? Of course their set goal is to win a flag.

Humour me. What are his "connections elsewhere"? Racing connection notwithstanding!

So the new board should be made up of past players who were good footballers, but nonetheless part of the post '64 era of mediocrity? And again, were better at running around chasing a ball than running successful organisations.

By the way. G Lyon stood up and offered an opinion - we selected Neeld on his opinion alone. Look where that got us.

And McLardy signed off on Neeld knowing the recruiting process went something like this...

  1. Lyon promises to land Clarkson.
  2. Lyon fails to land Clarkson

McLardy should stand down.

Mate you sound like you have an agenda, actually you sound like "Doctor do nothing" that was on the Gardner board. If you are please save us from the mud flinging.

Jump on board and do and say something constructive rather than destructive. If you're not I apologise.

If you can provide actual evidence for any of those points, why not share it with us.

All I will say is that a lack of traceable evidence doesn't mean it's not true. TRF's version of events is pretty close to the ones I have "come across" as well.

Not saying my endorsement of that version makes it true either of course - people can judge for themselves - but I'd be careful about dismissing someone's version of events out of hand just because we believe the person may have an "agenda".

It's similar to things I have heard with the notable exceptions of things like "Neeld tells Lyon he's in the final 2 for the Adelaide gig and needs to make a decision (he's bluffing)."

I take people seriously when they note concerns but don't leap to nefarious conclusions of fact that are anything but fact.

The board appoints the CEO. The president is Chairman of the Board.

Yet you'd rather a face than a mind at the top?

I understand where you are going, and ideally you would like both.

But if no one else is putting their hand up, and if u have an ex player, prominent in the media, and passionate about the club (unlike some). I would stand beside him

If we are talking about people to be president id like to see robbie flower. The guy started and runs a successful business [seda) and knows a thing or two about footy...

No agenda Frank, like most of us I'm just a member (with no official ties to the club) who has an opinion.

My opinion, in the context of this thread, is that Stynes & Lyon did us no favours and Schwarz is not the messiah.

In fact he's been a very naughty boy.

How is his health?

Happy to keep Mclardy

Did anyone see David Schwarz at training today? If he is keen to get on board this would have been an opportunity to meet and greet the supporters

How about Mal Waldon the channel 10 news reader? He's a demons man! haha.

In more seriousnes though if we were after a new president I'd of thought either Don Argus or Greg Wells would be good fits.

nope, if we want to change the Culture/Nature of the club, we need to change the image to one where

our young players can identify with.. so they can follow in this image, into battle...

thats why I want the Ox around the club, but not as CEO or President. he is a warrior, but best around the footy dept.

this is why I've suggested someone like a Micky Conlon, who has a somewhat he-man image, with smart business acumen. the club and players have played like parishioners for too long..

Its a field of battle we're trying to ready them for.

Gardner, zondy, mclardy?

Give me jimmy

if Jeff Kennett can be preisdent of a footy club, then David Schwarz sure as hell can

The man uis an inspiration, has overcome a lot of personal and professional tragedies and a horrible addicion to rebuild his life

Id support him 110% if he wanted to be the Prez

actually I can imagine 'The Ox' one day, as el Presidente`, but not as CEO.

just not Yet!

Your making an awful assumption there, that Neeld is the wrong man.. just on knee jerk reactions to a very bad start to the season doesn't pinpoint anything other than our team are too inexperienced, & we stuffed up the selection balance of the team for Rnd 1...

I said prior to the Rnd 1 game, we should sacrifice our newbies for the first game, & pick our most experienced & mature heads & bodies...

we could have added the bells & whistles, as we went along thru the early games, but we went too young & inexperienced, & not tough enough.... this is a bad selection process, maybe based more on selling memberships?

If it was, then it has Hurt us.

'We need someone who...' seems to be the start of most posts.

So.. club president... what is their job?

Represent the club to the media, clearly articulate our response to any and all issues as they arise. So in turn, they need to be alert enough to know what is going on at all levels of the club and humble enough to respond on behalf of the club, rather than on behalf of their own position.

Engage with (schmooze) club supporters, both pleb and patrician. Make sponsors feel important and appreciated, and encourage anyone with a public voice to use that voice generously when the club is a topic.

Engage with the haters, of which this club has so many, outside and in. Listen to their genuine issues, work hard to restore their confidence in the club's leadership, and where necessary identify and challenge people where they are just holding endless grudges (such as some people who, noted as not competent in their position, were given an unceremonious boot by Schwab and who have maintained ever since that everything Schwab does is some kind of anti-Mfc double-agent mission, or something).

Provide the key communication and information channel that maintains accountability measures. Keep it strong enough and visible enough that all staff, whether football or club, are confident that if they have an issue they can bring it up through the appropriate structures rather than having to engage in years-long campaigns of grumbling, white-anting and willful underperformance.

Well... I don't know.

But clearly not David Schwarz, who can do basically none of these things.

I think some have underestimated Ox in as far as his abilities but I would say no. Ox has been away from the club too long to take on such a role and I don't think it suits his personality.

cheech666?

Yes Nasher I'm cheech666,I wasn't able to login under that name, (forgot my pass word and I also changed my email) been away for a long time (I'm in Florida now actually)

Cheers mate.

Stynes was doing all right until he upped and died, and I'm sure that was just as inconvenient for him as it was for the Club.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
