Selection dilemma's at Melbourne for the first time since..........don't know. Neeld's recruitment strategy is healthy for the list and for the club because it seems as though every player on the list, bar Stark and Clisby, look as though they could don the Red and Blue for season 2013. Surely this brings a little bit of confidence to the supporters knowing that we have depth players who could come in and play a role, without the worry of blooding another rake kid who couldn't perform at AFL level. This depth is signified by the inclusion of Gillies for TMac and Pederson for Dawes. In 2012 TMac wudda been replaced by Sellar and the Dawes hole would be filled by Rivers/Garland. Additionally the likes of Terlich, Strauss, Jetta, Kent, Couch, Joel Macdonald and Magner can all come in and play and give something on game day. This depth is great for Melbourne and for this reason alone, and the competition it brings, Melbourne will improve in season 2013 with players in the know that poor performance will not grant 2nd chances any more. Just ask Aaron Davey. GO DEES IN 2013!

Add to that a really good pre season under the control of Dave Misson, and the fact that the players the club retained have now had well over a year under Mark Neeld.

Agree 100%. I kow it isnt the most talented pool of players going around but as you stated when was the last time we had guys fighting for position. Hopefully this will make a few of the guys play to there potential

We have Davey, Evans, Terlich, Strauss and Jetta who will also press for selection - actually they already have done so via the preseason.

I also believe that Tynan and Taggert will improve vastly this year.

I agree. In the corresponding game last year there are only 10 of the 22 saddling up again. Of the 12 missing I'd only welcome back Rivers and Trengove.

More-so, of the 10 lining up again not one should be worse, i.e. past it, but many, including Blease, Howe, Grimes, Watts, Frawley ... should be improving. That's not to suggest that every new player is an instant gain. Some will be and some will be of a similar standard. Structurally we'll be better even without the presence of Dawes.

I must admit I think Terlich was very stiff not to get in ahead of Tapscott. His form has been way ahead of Luke's this pre season.

Perhaps trying to give Tappy a chance to find his place in the side as an enforcer. Plus we have a fair few debutantes this game, a bit of extra experience isn't a bad thing. I think there's something to Luke, but so far it's been scarcely shown.

It's interesting to see that Jetta isn't in the squad of 25 despite having a full preseason. Some described his practice match form as good but I was underwhelmed.

He's actually pretty small.

Sometimes the fact that he goes hard is unusual for us Demons.

Hope we can learn to expect it.

From my perspective, I'm baffled by DN being in the team before the other two mentioned. The match committee knows best though so we can only trust their judgment at this stage.

But this year is about who our top 6 or 7 players are and what they can do.
