Posted here: Update from the President

To all members and supporters,

I wanted to provide you with a brief update as we head into Season 2013.

Our club has today in accordance with the agreed timeframe - provided its response to the AFL investigation. I intend keeping all our members and supporters regularly updated regarding this matter.

On the football side, our pre-season has been going smoothly, and our players have worked extremely hard to improve in all key aspects of their development. Our new draftees and rookies have settled in well, and over the next few weeks there will be a number of events for you to become involved in and hear first hand about our progress.

On Wednesday 6 February, starting at 6.30 pm, we will hold the Club 's Annual General meeting in the Members Dining Room at the MCG. This will include updates from Mark Neeld and the Board, and the playing group will all be in attendance.

On Saturday 23 February, the Club will come together for our annual Family Day at Luna Park, starting at 9 am. This is a great day for the whole family, with many activities and lots of opportunities to meet the players.

The season is fast approaching, and our NAB Cup game, scheduled for Saturday 9 March at Casey Fields, will provide a great chance to see the team in action, as well as to enjoy the festivities of our Casey Family Day.

Finally, I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the 22,500 members who - to date - have either renewed or joined us for the first time in Season 2013. Your support is vital, and we thank you. To those who have not yet renewed, come along to one of these events and experience first hand the enthusiasm and determination of our team I am sure you will want to be part of it.

Kind of annoyed that he left the response to that. I guess there must be stuff in there they want (for the moment) to be confidential.

Wouldn't we like to no, now, what was in that reply! More great reading on dland, ova a cuppa of course wyl.

I really like Don. I think he's a smart, sensible operator, but I'd love some kind of encouraging message or rallying of the troops to get us all united behind the club.

I understand he can't say much about what's happening from a legal perspective, but we're all struggling here and could do with some kind of hope.

I think it's wise for the club to play a dead bat to the AFL and deny oxygen to the Media who'd love us to feed the circus.

I would have liked to see something along the lines of "we will continue to strongly defend the integrity of the club"...but what you say has some merit.

Agreed. But us supporters are struggling, would be good to hear something encouraging from the prez.

Alway nice to hear good new or encouragement from Pres, but at the moment Media would twist it into "Melbourne President rallys supporters for fight with AFL" or some similar hyperbolic crap...

Well, that wouldn't be so bad, might show potential or struggling supporters we have some balls as a footy club. No one wants to barrack for a soul less club.

Yawn.

Mind you, I wouldn't have expected anything different.

Don McLardy is the right man for the Dees right now, but my goodness that press release was as downer. I can just see some theoretical, spin-mongering, faceless bureaucrat whipping up that speech that uses lots of words to say nothing, passing it to Don, and then the board agreeing to endorse its nothingness.

I agree with the necessity to play straight bat and give the tanking investigation no oxygen.

I know we have to appeal to members to sign.

I know about the importance of the Luna Park day ... etc... blah, blah, blah.

At some time soon some vision and passion communicated from the Board to the members would be good. Perhaps Feb 6th?!?!

nothing in the President's message.

Waste of ink, breathe, and/or whatever means he used to come up with it.

Just wait til Jon Peirik gets a hold of it!

Don can't say a word till the AFL make their move.

Very delicate matter here lads, whichever side of the fence you sit.

He has already said we will fight.

He could have detailed our response but that may have embarrassed those under the scope and would have served no purpose. Imagine if we had said the players fumbled because they were [censored] and Watts only played 3 games because he was too.

Give em nothing, take em nowhere. Let the press make up their own stories, they will anyway.

I can't imagine just what might be disclosed to the general public anyhow. There will be a summary provided to the media and they will twist and contort it to make the club look guilty even of we get off without being charged with anything.

Let's hope somewhere along the line we get a sufficient breakdown of the clubs response. As members, I believe we're entitled to it.

Maybe one of the more erudite legal posters can explain what might be disclosed.

great response from the President it gives the media whores nothing

No need for the Prez to say anything else. Now the AFL has our response I expect whatever is in it will be public knowledge within 48 hours....this is how the AFL works!

Literally says nothing and he'd be lambasted by some.

Figuratively says something and he's lambasted by some.

Meaningfully says something and he'd be celebrated by fools.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.
