Ultimate Footy 2013 - Norm Smith League

Got up and beat OMR....by a heap...proud of my team...thought we were well and trully gone.

. Well done JCB, I was simply outclassed all over the ground today. You are certainly in a rich vein of form at the minute, and to think Stevie J and Lindsey Thomas still to return. This game is all about depth, your team has plenty. I lose Goodes, Crameri and Harry O and the wheels fall off. I hope I can regroup and scramble into the 8 to earn another crack at your super team . Well played this weekend my friend. Edited by Old Man Rivers

You will...you will be playing off or nearby.

Two major forwards you missed badly...Harry O..always a good solid earner..the positional changes will be a major actor for me this week.If not will be in the hunt for for a defender...Varcoe maybe the go....as well.

Best the luck for finals unless you meet me....Robbo is looming as the dark horse and wants to improve his team further..good luck to him.Robbo has always been amongst the best...still, my aim is to make the top 4 - I have ever missed so far.....that is, every year we have had the Norm Smith league, I have been in the top4, that is my current aim.

If Ican get over Jacko this week, I should achieve it.

Regards

JCB 31.....

Two rounds to go and trading to cease this Sunday night for trading sees coaches need to cover urgently their keepers for 2014.

They will need to keep 2 senior ( best) players along with (2) rookies born in1992 or later.

I believe this matter is urgent to gain best players for each coach to qualify to play in 2014.

The above are rules implemented by JA last year.

All the best to each coach- not only to gain best team but also for the rest of this season.

Heading to China soon for further treatment therefore may not be able to wish my opponents all the best later in the finals.

But be prepared for me still to be competitive and I can assure you I will give my best

Regards to all

Good luck, jcb.

I am pretty sure that Free Agents can be signed up until the Grand Final so for those teams that have 'player signings' left you can use that on a kid to meet your quota of two young keepers.

There is no need to get that done before the trade deadline.

Cunnerz09, there is also the Robbie Flower league. Although it seems quite competitive, it has nothing on the prestigious Norm Smith League. Keep an eye out around Jan/Feb when the leagues get sorted for next year, I'm sure people will drop out or a third league will be formed.

Firstly thank you for your kind thoughts, secondly as long as the rookies are picked up by grand final week ..that is ok with me..

All the best for the finals, if you do not meet me

And well done to 45HG who leads the race for Pick Number 1 in next year's draft by beating the league leader.

I will resurrect the thread I started for the AFL as a whole for this - I really like it.

Does percentage continue to be calculated during finals? I cannot remember if it did last year, however it needs to be kept in consideration so that people don't just disappear in the last 3 weeks

I completely forgot about the consolation finals...

With that in mind I would say no.

It would leave the chance that a strong team that finished 9th could romp in a few wins and sneak a top 3 pick...

It's really meant for the bottom 5 teams to keep playing and trying to win and doing what 45 did on the weekend.

I thought the idea was for the bottom 5 teams to keep playing and trying to win through the consolation finals as well? Otherwise this is pretty pointless - you have gotten 1-2 weeks where the bottom teams try, and another 4 where they won't bother...

The consolation finals is setup for the same reason I set up the % determinator - to try and keep people playing.

Great Grand Final Scarlett! Seriously mate this premiership was decided by 1 straight kick. What a climax to an amazing season in 2013. Very proud to add OMR onto the Norm Smith League honour board after today taking out the 2013 Premiership. This comp has gone from strength to strength in its 3 year history. I can't wait to defend the title in 2014. Well played to all competitors in 2013. PS: I really just wanted to show off the new signature. :-)

Congrats OMR, been an awesome year, up until the bye round after that I couldn't buy a win. Looking forward to 2014

However just a word of caution - if you're going to brag at least get the spelling right!

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
