The kid is a skinny junior who has just joined the club.

Lets give him a couple of years to show his worth.

I hope he is good enough to play a few in 2013 but 2014 might be more likely.

If we could afford Bennel 4 years we can give this kid a few

who said we could afford JB for 4 years.....you certainly didn't :)

Exactly. I would love to see him get a taste of senior footy this year but would be very happy for him to prove his worth in the Scorps best 22 first with a majority of his games there listed in the best.

If people didn't know Bennel when watching him train with us over previous seasons they would have thought we have a star on our list with his speed and skill so I am not getting too carried away with Barry yet as we have all be burnt before.

From reading the raps on him, he is a very outside player and that was playing against boys. So lets not get carried away. Here is hoping but

Yes you are right dc

most of us knew after 2

So I guess we can afford to give Barry two at least.

I'm much more positive about barry at this stage than i was about JB at the same stage

I agree though that 2013 is not the year for Barry. If he gets a game or 2 that would be about the best he could aim for

I don't want to be the source of your future grief. I predict we'll win around 8-10 games given our draw and the changes to our list, but that's on the proviso of few injuries, new players to the club making the sort of impact I expect, a much better fitness base, and Mitch Clark playing 16 or 17 games. A ladder finish of 12/13 will mean we've made legitimate progress and a foundation for better progress.

I think we'll beat Port in round 1, but I also like the way their list is developing. Brad Ebert, Boak, Hartlett, Wingard, and Wines is the nucleus of a solid midfield. But we'll have no excuses not to beat them at the 'G.

Don't worry Ben - I'm happy to take the blame firmly on my own shoulders.

Given where I saw this list at, say, the mid point of 2011, everything's gravy for me at the moment.

Whilst I don't expect us to make the finals in 2013, I do see us as consistently playing a harder, more disciplined, more accountable brand of football this year.

I also see us beating a few teams other than the Suns and GWS in 2013.

To my mind, there's upside in that. And, more generally, I reckon the trajectory is up rather than down under Neeld, Craig, Misson and Co in 2014 and beyond.

So - given that:

  • I've read some very encouraging, seemingly objective training reports during this pre-season, and
  • the new 'restructured' list hasn't yet been belted by an opposition team,

I'm enjoying my renewed sense of optimism about the MFC - if only for the time being.

I will therefore be disappointed if we don't pump Port at the G in round one. And I reckon Neeld will be similarly p1ssed off.

We need to regain the mindset that the G is our fortress, particularly against the weak interstate clubs.

Still reckon Bennell will be West Coast's best small forward come the end of 2013.

Yeah, nah.

You serious ?

Bennell is as soft as butter. He's scared of his own shadow.

I don't rate their small forwards, and I think in a team where he can be forgotten about because of other weapons, he can shine.

I think he edges Hill as a better small forward. Has better pace.

To be honest, it's a throwaway prediction.

I'm not gonna lose sleep if I turn out to be wrong.

Is he actually going to play much this year?

Did he not have a knee reco late in the 2012 season.

I would think he would be out for the first half of 2013 and being a rookie he has to wait for a spot in the seniors

Steven Armstrong says hi !

Not impossible he could find himself deep into Sept 2013

More likely LeCras takes the Hill spot, it was his before injury and whilst not a small, small forward as such it is the position he had.

Still reckon Bennell will be West Coast's best small forward come the end of 2013.

Mark LeCras!?

Mark LeCras!?

He will tell you otherwise, the guys a highlight joke.

Lol. This joint is choc full of delusional optimists. Welcome to Groundhog Day 2013! A bunch of new kids, some veterans that other clubs discard, others on the slide elsewhere, all 'tearing it up' on the training track. Big year ahead. Heard it all before?

And not a realistic supporter in sight. FFS, at least wait till round 8 or 10 before pumping up our tyres. Lol.

You might have me there.

Not sure how long it might be before he can play again.

Apologies about that, I'm sure the mods will delete all that stuff soon...

Anyways... One thing that hasn't been touched on in this thread yet is how awesome it is we have another "brother" in the team. It's been sad times for us lately with Jurrah, Aussie, and Bennell gone for different reasons and Flash not in great form, and I for one am really excited by what I'm hearing about Dom (and Flash for that matter) from training reports.

well that lil hissy fit says why we 2 supporter forums ,

That post makes about as much sense as the rest of yours barndee ok got it good cheers

Lol. This joint is choc full of delusional optimists. ...

Which you're trying to make up for by being a delusional pessimist?

Is the glass I saw half empty last year and see as half full now just my delusion?

I will let you know around 1st May

Which you're trying to make up for by being a delusional pessimist?

No. Just trying to keep real, bing. I can no longer stand getting my hopes up unrealistically and then being crushed by round 5. I'll stick to boarding the reality bus. You can get on the Ferris wheel if you like

de·lu·sion [dih-loo-zhuhthinsp.pngthinsp.pngn] Show IPA
noun
1.
an act or instance of deluding.
2.
the state of being deluded.
3.
a false belief or opinion: delusions of grandeur.
4.
Psychiatry. a fixed false belief that is resistant to reason or confrontation with actual fact: a paranoid delusion.

Why is it "delusional" to focus on the positive aspects of our situation? Surely it's more delusional to constantly look to the past as a predictor of the future. What bearing can past events have on what happens this season? We have a substantially different list and a football department that is starting to have an impact on the culture of the team. Is this what we had last year, or the year before that? Let's be rational and look at what we have this year and see if we can draw some positivity from that.

I'd suggest that to ignore the facts of the current reality is in line with definition No 4.

Go DEES!

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.
