Matt Thomas

Age 25

Height - 186 cms

weight - 87 kgs.

Has had 7 years at the Power for 83 games (56 games in the last 3 years). But after his very good rookie 1st year of 2006, he had an injury interrupted 2007-09. In 2010 and 2011, he stepped up to be a regular and in fact was one of the Power's better players, leading the club in tackles and 1%'s. In 2012, played 15 games, but has now shown a desire to return to Victoria.

Murrumbeena boy and would be a welcome addition to our midfield. No backward steps here.

Key strengths: tackling, handball, run and carry, breaks tackles.

I would look at a Pick 50 exchange (maybe one we get in exchange to Stef Martin to St Kilda).

The role he played was mainly as a defensive forward and he did it well.

Didn't see much of it but averages around 8 tackles a game.

Would love to see him at the MFC next year (assuming the cost is rational).

Agree. Neeld wants players to make us "The Hardest Team to play". This is not Farren Ray. This is Matt Thomas types.

add Viney, Wines, Thomas to ... Mckenzie, Jones, Magner ... we are not taking backward steps !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I disagree that Farren is not hard. There seems to be a view on here he's another Morton or Bennell. He goes really hard at the ball, as evidenced by that contest against Selwood which KO'd him. Ray also comes from Ross Lyon school of discipline, hard running and knows a defensive game plan. He's no world beater but I think he'd be a good pick up.

Back on Thomas, I'm happy with him as a bargan priced battering ram. Just have to be mindful of too many inside midfielders with questionable disposal. I don't think Magner, McKenzie, Grimes, Wines and Thomas could play in the same side. But it may free up Pick 4 to use on picking up someone with a bit more class (McRae, Mayes etc.)

I agree re Farren Ray. I Had, the perception of him at the doggies of a very "outside tupe", but at the Saints I've witnessed him play contested footy. a nice surprise.

He's available. so far

We need to spend some money, & we need more experience & players willing to play defensive as well.

IMO he's a good fit.

Thomas I've never watched but reading his reviews, looks good.

Watch this footage of Matt Thomas agst the Blues. It shows his attitude. Get the footy. 2nd effort. 3rd effort. How many MFC players showed that level of effort in 2012 (count on one hand)

Can the Mods make sure the FD get our threads.

Just to enlighten them on the attributes of Farren Ray.

I know they are waiting on our approval before taking any further action in trade week.

i haven't followed him a lot, but how does he ranks for pace, especially if he is maybe being compared or considered in the context of him or Farran Ray?

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
