Latest murmurings of a crazy time

Rivers 4 years older running out of time.

Rivers better defender, Garland more flexible and better chance of playing a role as we get better.

It would be interesting to see garland play in the midfield, he's got good speed and is strong enough to play a role there. Worth a look in the NAB cup.

Agreed - again it may be the brain thing but Garland trails to a lot of contests

That may be true but he has great closing speed and if you look at the way football is played now most defenders trail, let's face it they have to react to their opponent which means they will automatically be a little behind in most instances.

I agree with you regarding his decision making it's not really all that bad, though as you say when he stuffs up he really does turn it in to an art form.

I would like to see him at HFF. He has some pace and agility and I still think there is a role for a medium forward in there.

Dawes, Clark, Byrnes, Sylvia, Howe and ?

I would get Howe more into the middle and allow Garland to do his role.

Never.

And yes, I'm well aware that many footy followers have flawed perceptions of our great game.

As my late mother used to tell me, we all too often see our own faults in others.

Blease

Why restrict the argument to Rivers v Garland for that spot in defence.

Second half of the year our talls down back were Frawley, T Mac, Watts and Sellar is most occasions wasn't it?. Garland and Rivers were moved forward to cover the loss of Clark.

Neeld has already said that Watts is going to be a defender, he is likely to be the 3rd tall if not more of a floating player that is a playmaker.

I like the look of our defence with Frawley, T Mac and Watts as talls, Sellar, Pedersen (if we get him) and Garland possibly will be played in defence when match ups require it. I don't think Garland is for the scrapheap, he can play on many different types of players and that flexibility is going to be needed.

Jay Clark seems to think GWS offering pick 2 to St Kilda for Fisher.

We should so throw TMac on the table for pick 2 or 3.

NO we should'nt.

NO we should'nt.

Why not?

We have excess tall back-men as it is. If we could take Grundy with that pick I am sure it would be a big gain.

Yep.....Lets get in a unproven 18 year old and trade away a top ten in our b&f and a player that is in his third year and looks to be a long term player for us.......Do you really think about the propersitions you put up?????......

Yep, get rid of something we have excess of for something we need?

I am sure guys like Davis, Martin, Seller ect can fill the gap.

No, he doesn't.

There are some that want to trade for trade's sake without putting any thought in to it, it's a bit like money or the box, let's go the box and see what's in it.

To start with GWS are pretty well placed for 19 year olds. You really think they'd hang out pick 2 for another one ?

Martin ball watches and that's why they don't play him in the back line.

Davis hasn't played a game as yet so how do you rate him? He may be delisted.

Sellar is there to play a role and that's all and hasn't even been offered a contract yet so he may be delisted.

Think about it.

Davis ....not played a game yet........Martin.......I would trade before TMac.......Sellar......Has a long way to go......I would trade these players before McDonald who played most if not all games this year.....Bloody Hell.....

I would be shocked if Sellar was delisted. I thought he played pretty well this year and was versatile, playing in a number of positions. He was much better than I thought he would be.

I agree, I've been a big supporter of his and it concerns me that he hasn't been offered a contract, maybe the club see others as playing the role better.

Let's just hope that they have to see what's available money wise before the put a contract to him.

We definately don't have excess now that Rivers is gone.

T Mac will be a star, you don't get rid of a bloke that can play key back, is tall and can run.

T Mac, Frawley and Garland will be the main 3 Talls , with Sellar and Davis as back ups or depending on match ups and who we play.

Watts will play the floating Rivers role, and we still have Grimes, J,Mac and Bartram.

RobbieF there are a number who have not been offered a contract.

My ignorant view is that once the Unrestricted trading period ends ( 5 PM tomorrow ) and the compensation for lost players is known

The club will then know how many draft picks they have to use / trade in the last week.

And how many have to be shed from the list. at that point the Contracts will be offered.

IMO a lot more will be know this time next week.

We definately don't have excess now that Rivers is gone.

You do not mention Dunn above.

IMO DeeZee the loss of Rivers just about guarantees Dunn a contract Offer.

Garland is nowhere near being a half decent KPD. He refuses to stand directly next to his opponent and puts in half arsed efforts when he has to run. He is a lazy footballer. Too bad really, because if he fixes his attitude, he could well become River's replacement as the third tall in defense.

I'd partner Pederson with Frawley in the key defensive posts, with an eye to bringing in Sheahan as our long-term CHB.

Two questions

1. How old are you?

2. Is your real name Mikey?

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.
