WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHRIS DAWES

Featured Replies

Welcome to the MFC!! Good pickup for us. Just to nitpick, the late pick exchange is ordinary. The Pies now have 17, 18, 20, 39 and 45. They won't be using 76 so that could/should have been thrown in, but whatevs. We now have a centre half forward.

And the Dees have Hogan, Viney, Pick 4, Dawes, Barry, and what ever we pick up post first round. With this we start to make ground on clubs like the pies (assuming we get all the other stuff right).

All good

Go Dees.

Good work Dees, and welcome to the MFC Dawes!

We might not need much past 58 anyway. Given we've got Dom Barry (berry?), Viney and pick 4 as well as Dawes and Byrnes and a comp pick that may be about 35, we are adding 6 blokes before even getting to draft pick 58. Add that one and it is 7. Now to see if we can trade Martin, Petterd, Morton etc.

Tim, I'm still hoping for quite the clean-out! It's up in the air at the moment because we don't know what compensation picks if any we'll be getting, whether any of our free agents will sign elsewhere, or whether we'll trade someone for a pick, but as it stands our live selections are 4, 58, 64 and 82. As I say, I was nit-picking, and would have liked to see a later pick coming back our way, but it's neither here nor there. We've paid overs, but I wouldn't give the deal back if it meant losing Dawes. He'll be an important part of our structure and leadership, and I'm more than happy to have him.

It's also good because we've still got 10 days to work on other deals. Good times.

Melbourne has landed Chris Dawes in a trade deal struck tonight.

The paperwork will be lodged with the AFL tomorrow after the Dees and Magpies agreed on a swap of picks.

Melbourne has agreed to hand over pick No.20 and No.45 to the Magpies.

Completing the deal, the Magpies will hand their pick No.58 to the Demons.

Looking at stats of Dawes:

2012 - 36 shots on goal, 16 goals.

2011 - 42 shots on goal, 27 goals.

2010 - 46 shots on goal, 30 goals.

The key stat though is in 2012, he had 89 hitouts compared to 12 and 2. Fair to say, his role in the ruck has had a big impact on his effectiveness and confidence.

So in stating the obvious. Give him the role of a forward and thats all. Let him focus, get his confidence and if he has a 30 goal season, its definitely a win.

Neeld is literally transforming this joint

are you saying he is somehow altering the physical structure of the MCG? Because that is what 'literally' means in the context of transforming something.

Sorry.. pet hate of mine

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

GET AROUND IT!

Swapping of late picks may not be an issue, especially if that was something that we were to trade to North for Pederson, also this year we may see a few more reasonable players delisted by all clubs so we maybe able to pickup some good talent there at a bargain price.

I know Robbie. We cannot fix all our problems in one draft. But, bugger me, what a draft so far!

For whatever reason, I've given up on the idea that we can develop players. I just assume that Taggert, Tynan, Evans and Gys won't come on, that Tapscott won't, that Gawn won't, that Sheahan won't - or that we cannot get them to come on to an AFL standard. If that changes - if this club actually figures out how to maximise the potential of their recruits - and a few of the seven I mentioned actually make it, then we are just a star away from being genuinely good.

I think that's about to change and those that don't want to play the new game can move on.

Amen!

Pick 4

Hogan

Barry

Viney

Dawes

Byrnes

That is a seriously impressive haul. Hard to believe the difference Scully's desertion has made, it has turned out to be a godsend

Still works when 'joint' refers to the structure of the MFC and its players as a club. He is literally transforming it by bringing in new and ejecting old!

Mark Neeld is going to win this club a flag.

Of that, I'm absolutely convinced.

You can only provide the personnel and the tools, after that it's up to the players but the club and esp Neeld certainly seem to be fervently going about righting the wrongs and laying the pavement.

One step, the another............

Pick 4

Hogan

Barry

Viney

Dawes

Byrnes

Absolutely!

And we might yet see Ray and Pedersen added to that list before the trade period is out... and who knows who we might pick up in the PSD.

I hope its true!!!

But, this does not leave many draft picks for the Dees come draft time. pick 4, a third or fifth round pick and fifth round pick. How does Pederson fit into this? Will the club trade players out?

Still i'm happy with this

I'm not used to seeing the MFC get what they want, I nearly shed a man tear.

Good work Dees, just made Mitch's job easier, put him down for 80 goals. Then in the 2nd half of the season...

well done to Neeld, Harrington and co

a very good result, welcome aboard Chris

look that's a bit of a stretch, but I'll grant it as not as bad as most indiscretions - eg. 'I had a long day at work today, I was literally dying' Really? so you ended up in intensive care?

Great job Mark Neeld and the recruiting team.

You have strengthened this list whilst still bringing in high level young talent.

Clark & Dawes- The towers we needed that are also great leaders and role models.

Byrnes- another leader with premiership experience from a club that has been the benchmark for a long time.

Viney, Barry, Pick 4- top end young talent and in Viney's case, driven like no other.

Hogan- everything to be the best acquisition of all.

He is building both the now and the future.

I believe we will see the on field results follow too.

Very happy Demon.

Great news!!! Between Dawes, Byrnes and potentially another established player, the FD has come through on it's promise to acquire senior talent.

A huge tick must be given to Neeld and Co. for their ability to deliver during Free Agency

Has anyone counted the number of good news stories that have occurred since Crawf started that positivity thread?

Reverend?

Good get..... 2013 might be worth watching....

Now we need to shark Young from under the pies nose lol......

really getting slayed for this elsewhere online, which i find strange.

he might not be a superstar, but he's clearly talented, strong, fit, and capable of playing another 6-8 years.

i fail to see the issue of swapping #20 and exchanging later picks for him.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
