War about to erupt between Richmond and GWS

I wxpect 18 clubs to go to war in October.

I thought we'd covered this AFL is not like War argument already??!! Brace yourself WYL...!!! :)

Don't have to agree. I don't buy pay tv on principle.

Pay TV, if most take it, will kill free TV, & will end up as a monopoly, & become way too expensive, & it's too expensive now.

DL, if it weren't for Pay TV, interstate supporters wouldn't be able to watch half the amount of games as we do. When the TV rights were with Channel 9, the only time you could watch a Friday night game was at 11:30pm. If Melbourne played in a Friday night match, I for one was never the happiest bloke going around.

Thanks to Pay TV, I can watch a lot of live AFL footy, and am happy to pay for it. If you're not willing to pay for it, then that's your choice. I'm not going to criticise that, so would hope to think that your attitude may change slighty. Cheers.

Scully

I have a feeling old55 that they actually did us a favour.

If we had kept him we would not have been able to get Clark.

The situation is really only half a season old but Clark gave us way more for half a year than Scully gave us in two years and GWS in a whole season.

That and the compo, but Clark alone would have been worth it.

Free-To-Air-TV for the past 50 years has used its arbitrary rule over Australian media to stymie any sort of intellectual growth for Australia. It finds loop holes in laws demanding Australian content and instead replaces it with Two and Half Men on repeat.

Foxtel is responsible for about 60% of new Australian television whilst 7, 9 and 10 stream through American television.

Now if we're talking about AFL coverage, you only need to look as far as Ade V Freo on Fri night to see that Free-To-Air coverage needs to be challenged, otherwise we're left with the same crap coverage on 7.

Am i off topic? Go Tiges.

Did they do us a favour - or did we do ourselves a favour? Remind me what we got for Scully again? :)

Miller ------ tick

A.Maric ------ tick

Both obtained via the Rookie draft or near "free" - Brad has assisted the development of their young key position players, think he might of picked up a few trick all the way. Adamm was a Tiger boy and worth a crack at the price - you never can get them all right in AFL footy - you win some you loose some.

Geez next the Tigers will be using ex-players as on-field coaches - wonder what we will call them Runners?

Absolutely agree R. For once we outsmarted 'them". All the talking up prior to the end of last season, the "knee" and the so called "offers" and what did we get - money in the bank, draft picks and maybe more importantly our silence (in view of GWS drafting indiscretion) may win us future concessions from Vlad. Most importantly it allowed us to go for Clark who I believe will be one of the most important signings the Club has made in terms of leadership.

Don't know whether it has been mentioned here as it is a GWS V Richmond thread. I was told today that Richmond are after Cameron offering him up to $250,000.

non of these players are scouted from other clubs

maric, grigg and houli

Can't think of one good player Melbourne have taken from another club for nearly nothing like Richmond did with these boys.

Good on the Tigers too, anything that brings pain on the Greater Western Scum.

What because of the Scully stuff?

I don't think GWS exposing Tom to be a mercenary as early as they did was such a bad thing, in doing so we received overly generous "Ablett sized" compensation.

Undeniably a better outcome than getting SFA losing him to free agency.

Rumors around the interwebz is that it's Dom Tyson they are after.

Number 3 draft pick in 2011. Therefore is contracted. Looks like it could be another Caddy situation from last year.

Apparently, he and Patton are the only 2 high draft picks who have not extended their standard 2 year contracts yet. Dom is very homesick and his father is somehow highly involved with the Richmond fc in some way.

Pretty hard to have a 'war' when you are limited by salary caps and contracts.

Where there is a will you can always find a way.

Rassilon they ( GWS ) out bid us for his services end of story

Or am I missing something?

Old..Ive long suspected that once we got the sniff that all was not quite kosher with the over-hyped one that MFC played a little game. It could have ended like the Puppies..or it could end how it did, with much greater reward.

Weve all been over the rest countless times. Yes we are much relieved to have him gone. Im not so sure the rest wasnt without some orchestration ;)

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
