Is Neita Hall of Fame material?

Featured Replies

300+games, 600+ goals, twice all-Australian, Coleman Medal winner ... you'd think he'd be in with a chance. But then again, he played for the least fashionable club in the AFL. I suspect he won't make it anytime soon if at all, but I'd love to be wrong.

Thoughts?

No. Nieta was one rung behind the absolute Champions.

If we had been competitive in the 2000 GF it may have been different.

Nope, Lloyd and Fevel will get in before he does.

Neita was a very good player (at times), but is a long way off Hall of Fame quality. He didn't do enough on the big stage to justify that accolade.

I would argue that Garry Lyon is worthy of inclusion ahead of Neitz, due to his superior finals record.

How did those two go at CHB ?

Don't think they would go to good, one dimensional.

He's a club legend and his stats stack up well with others, however i doubt he's in line for the HoF anytime soon.

I doubt it will be in the near future, but I definitely think he is worthy. Other than premierships his stats back up well against current inductees of the calibre of Guy Mckenna, Gavin Brown, Robert Flower and many others.

Wash your mouth out with soap !!!! Saying Neita in the same breath as Robbie Flower. I ehhh...ohhh (fainted)

Not HoF quality. Top 5 Melbourne player of the past 50 years, but not HoF quality. Says a lot.

I say yes. Never forget the day he charged the centre bounce in a game v Pies at the G. He splattered Buckley at a crucial stage of the match. Melbourne went on to win easily. Neitz gave Melbourne a presence something we badly lack now.

Robbie's an absolute legend of the game. Captain of the Big V and could play in any position except the ruck:)

Neitz is also a GREAT one...lets not argue

What happened to the MFC Hall of Fame? Not that it ever existed anywhere other than the clouds but even the idea of nominating people was quietly shelved a couple of years back.

Would be a good addition to that. AFL HoF not so much - which is no disrespect to him, it's just that it should have a much higher bar for entry than just being a really good player.

Quite right 'pantsman. Neitz was on of the very very few Melbourne players who caused opponents to hear footsteps.

Luke McCabe sends his regards.

of course he is! he's a dees legend!!!

I love Neitz but I'm not too sure if he is AFL HOF material. He'd be close!

I can't find the bump on Mccabe on youtube at all! Haven't seen it for years. Has anyone got a link?

Not a fan of the selection committee who make these decisions especially when

Hassa Mann and Gary Hardeman are thought to be not worthy and players like Mark Bickley are

The Bickley decision was pure tokenism and a splap in the face to players more deserving even in the same club

The problem with Neitz is he only played in his best position for a small part of his career

Even those ill informed magpie supporters want Lou Richards included as a Legend and to me is not even worthy of HOF selection

I think that's the "Pot calling the kettle black".

Louie did more for football in his lifetime than most others could ever dream to do.

He is a stand out for LEGEND.

By the time his career is finished, Stephen Milne will have very similar games/goals stats to David Neitz. Would people on here be happy to see Stephen

Milne in the HOF? Probably not. So taking our MFC glasses off, I dont think he stacks up well enough in the league overall to warrant it.

If they re-did Melbourne's all time team, would Neitz make it?

Maybe you should read the criteria of becoming a HOF Legend

I am related to a teammate of lou richards and i can assure you that he was even lucky to make HOF status

His media contribution is outstanding and probably without peer but Lou himself would not accept it as even he has become dellusional on how good a player he was

Bob Rose IMO would be the next Magpie Legend as he was a Champion player unlike Richards who was good but never considered outstanding

The irony from collingwood and brainwashed opposotion supporters like yourself do realise the Collingwood TOC does not include the name Lou Richards

Then you can take it a little further in that Collingwood has no TOC representative although i do believe they were hard done by

Neita is absolutely Hall of Fame material.......................every bit the player, if not better than Chris Grant who finds himself inducted!

We too harshly judge our own sometimes...................Neitz was a champion!

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
