Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Straight trade - Jurrah for Jacobs

Leverage is a double edged sword. Who has a top 20 pick on there list, out of contract that wants to play back in Victoria? If we offer him a 3/4 year deal on "reasonable money".

Who has no leverage?

However, we do the right thing. We offer up a trade - Why - I will let you work that one out.

I'm not convinced GWS & GC would get involved in the Pre-season because of list reduction placed on both clubs. Plus Im not sure even if they did - they would want to pay "reasonable" dollars for a kid that would obviously want to play in Victoria. If we had a "deal" in place say 3/4 years and an acceptable amount to Jacobs - I reckon he would be ours.

They could just say we'll draft Jurrah and you can draft Jacobs - if we had a particularly good relationship with them then this trade might happen. But Jacobs would have to want to come only to us - unlikely, other Victorian teams could be in the frame - Geelong, Essendon, North etc., then ort may actually be able to get real trade value.

The key is to secure Jacobs with a fair deal 3-4 reasonable dollars. Wonder what Jarrah would be on? 300-400K. Why not offer Jacobs what Jurrah was on - no net gain no net loss for us. Houli-Dooley we would have a chance.

A little too simple for some obviously.

You cant trade what you dont have. thats it...over and out

BB he is actually still contracted at trade period. He is still a Melbourne listed player. I dont think it will happen, but it can happen.

No Leverage means we have no leverage, MFC have not renewed his contract or discussed renewal until after March 2013. We can not offer something we do not have. To renew his contract we need his agreement and he has stated he can not commit until after March 2013. After the court case then we can deal but before that we can not offer his services so we have nothing nadda, zilch, zero.

Port would have to agree to give up their player Jacobs now for the possibility that if everything comes out okay in court and if Jurrah wants to continue to play AFL that they can have him sometime in March - April 2013. An offer that I am sure they would jump at, they would be mad to not do it.

Yes we can put an offer to Jacobs and Port but we can not use Jurrah as leverage or bait. I don't understand how I (and numerous others) can make it any clearer for you.

am fully aware he is technically stil on our list. I even mentioned this on several other threads. But as he can step aside and walk into the draft of his own accord we have no real call on him.

There is also the situation whereby had he signed a new contract he would be untradable unless he was to agree to it. Why would you sign with club A only to go to B when you could do what you like ( or need ). Mind you he could have donne that had it been his want to provide compensation to a club that had provided much for him.

He didn't , hasnt , wont ...take your pick. Matters not for what is...IS.

Much of what many suggest here is purely fantasy based upon their "wished for" , or "what might be" with no real recognition of what IS.

There is no trading Liam for theres no certainty he will go anywhere next year. Hes getting off the train.

He can go straight into the draft.

And that is if he even wants to play AFL next season.

He may be happy to just play SANFL.

Only 1 club would take him in the draft and that means we have as much leverage as a plastic fork trying to lift Fat Phil - NONE.

First we put the offer to Jacobs. (full-stop) If he agrees to come back to Victoria for 3-4 years on reasonable dollars say $300-400K - we have a deal.

Then we put the offer to Port - if Port dont accept it thats their problem not ours. We take Jacobs in the pre-season - no big deal to us. We have our man.

GWS or GC have to both reduce their list - I suspect this year neither will want to enter the pre-season draft. Plus - They are having enough problems keeping the Victorian kids they already have. Why create more problems for yourself. (Hi Josh, Hi Jonathon) Why would they want another on their books? Especially one that we would already have a deal with and we would request to be put on our permission to train list.

Jacobs can go into the ND too. And GC or GWS could keep room for a pick in the PSD - I would if I were their list manager.

And 'deals' and 'permission to train' lists mean something to drafts?

What I find odd is that - to you - it is as easy for us to get Jacobs as PA to get Jurrah.

It is much more difficult for us to get Jacobs than for PA to get Jurrah.

Yip but why would he - no certainty. We would have a deal in place 3-4 years @ 300-400 K.

What like they did last year? GWS passed on all selections GC took a Tassie kid. Plus you would have to pass on a very early pick. Dont forget both must reduce their list.

And 'deals' and 'permission to train' lists mean something to drafts?

Are you sure about that? Club dont like grabbing players for long-term deals if they have already committed elsewhere

Depends where Port want to put Jurrah on their list. Primary or Rookie? B)

I think Richmond is the biggest threat.

Im 99% sure they have secured Chaplin & Knights, and they are talking to one of our boys (who shall remain nameless at this point) Think they have their hands full at present.

Lets see. Many deals get talked about not all come to fruition. Where there is a will there is a way.

And an idiot on the other end of the negotiating table.

My question would be "why was jurrah not recontracted mid-year"

Even out of form he was less of a list clogger than most

You have to be kidding given the situation Jurrah has been in.

He hasnt been out of form because he has hardly played this year. Not to mention struggling with the pre season training.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
