beelzebub 23,392 Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 A bit like the Cockatoo Collins boys would be probably the only possibility however unlikely. The more you think of it he hasnt too many options.
DemonDan... 77 Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 RSVP? His foot doesn't look good - I am not a doctor, I am just relaying what I have heard. More like it is broken in a way that a 28 year old AFL player will struggle to come back from. Apparently it's a bit of a mess. ffs Just what i was hoping to not hear.. and just when were getting a team together that wont need him to fill 10 jobs every week.. Sounds like he's turning into Quentin.. but i'll keep my fingers crossed, like i did with Garland.. *sigh*
Jesse Christ 2,884 Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 So if he's foot is buggered can we move him off the primary list and keep paying him or does he have to remain on the list? You would think if he couldn't play, and he knew it, he would do the right thing and step-aside in the quest to develop youth. IMO his best days are behind him, and it would be noble of him to follow in his mate Greens footsteps and hang up the boots
Bring-Back-Powell 15,577 Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Has taken leave early. At the club right now exercising on bike. All things going well, will commence pre-season training on time. Sauce - Mark Neeld on SEN this morning.

Sauce - Mark Neeld on SEN this morning. Well that is pleasing to hear. I will say that I know for a fact that he wants to keep playing, even beyond next year - for various reasons. Not least the fact that his family has just become bigger. Let's hope he can defy those that think his foot is done.
Allen Jakovich 519 Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Yeah Neeld said the story had come out of thin air and him and Aaron had been joking about it.
mrtwister 652 Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 For those interested. http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/147484/default.aspx
Redjacket 760 Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 For those interested. http://www.afl.com.a...84/default.aspx The heading of that article is misleading and has two different meanings. I read it to mean that his career is going nowhere whereas it's intended meaning was that he is staying at the Dees. Not sure which meaning I agree with.

You and others should be ashamed of yourself. Im 100% sticking to what I said earlier in the thread JFYI A tad of hypocrisy in this thread by some. I honestly hope Aaron with one year left on a contract is not pushed. If Aaron wants one more crack at AFL we should do everything in our power to make that happen, either with us or somewhere else. However, the choice should be with Aaron. If we want loyalty from our players we must show loyalty to our players especially to players with contracts.

MFC should do everything in its power to improve its position if that means Davey stays and justifies his final year at MFC then fine. If it means he gets traded then fine. However, the Club would be quite within its rights and good sense to tell Davey as for every other player exactly where he stands. If he does not fit into Neeld's plans and I can see why, then he should be told that and given the option of Casey or seek a trade that the Club is happy with from the perspective of salary relief and draft picks. i cant see a bidding war for a player that cant cut a game at a bottom club. Its not a matter of loyalty. Its a matter of making each player including Davey aware of where they are at and what their options are. And given Davey's involvement in the Mifsud issue I am not sure that behind the scenes he is a must keep at MFC.
jumbo returns 6,745 Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Hasn't payed a decent game in 2 years. Time to part company.

I would though possibly temper it with the notion Neeld is after some mature players on the field to hold sway at times.if Aaron can get himself to the required level of fitness then he may well be of value in 2013. Its an IF. But I do agree that its a case of Davey being of use to the club not the club being used by him (or any others ) just as a career extender. It will be purely down to fitness...and the fitting of things
H_T 3,049 Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 As stated by Neeld his foot was a mess. How he comes back from the stress fractures (several), will be the key and how he responds to treatment and loads. As I stated either way he is contracted, whether that is as a player for next season or an off field role within the club for next season - remains to be seen.
beelzebub 23,392 Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Still, credit where due , he is training to give himself the best chance. That in itself is the right attitude. I wonder what others are doing.
nutbean 8,838 Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Yeah Neeld said the story had come out of thin air and him and Aaron had been joking about it. Neeld should show some respect. The story hasnt come out of thin air. Its come out of Demonland. The air here is thick and I don't like what I'm smelling.

However, I have a feeling with thoughts like that these your words could easily come back and bite you on the bum one day. I'm not confident Neeld shares your thoughts and opinions.
Guest Rassilon Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Tail.wag.dog. Typical supporters response. But no loyalty is a two way street.
Rhino Richards 1,467 Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Fine you are more than entitled to your opinion. However, I have a feeling with thoughts like that these your words could easily come back and bite you on the bum one day. You would know all about that. I'm not confident Neeld shares your thoughts and opinions. You would not know what Neeld thinks. There is a fair divide between what has Neeld publicly demands from players and what Davey has delivered in the past 2 years. If he was OOC this year, I doubt he would be in the AFL in 2013. Interesting Davey was dumped from the leadership group by Neeld 9 month ago and he struggled with pre season demands last year.....Hmmmm. Good to see he has commenced pre season. Its a test whether his body and mind can cope with the requirements for 2013.
poita 3,948 Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 If Aaron is having foot issues, it is probably because of the size of the pay cheque he is carrying around with him. Perhaps we can negotiate to something more in line with his performances since 2009 ($100K/season, perhaps), and everybody will be better off.
beelzebub 23,392 Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Anyone would think at times we're talking about some local footy club or platoon squaddies or best mates scout troop etc. We're actually talking about a business thats called the Melbourne Football Club. Whilst seeming impersonating a bunch of amateurs for years its actually a professionally run multi-million dollar business in the field of elite competitive sport. Its about getting the work done...and done to a standard. Loyalty.?? I think many have far to a romantic notion of what all this is about. For sure a team will build bonds. Its actually encouraged. These persons are paid. Its their job. A job only a damn few lucky ones get to live out and be rewarded incredibly well for. This notion of loyalty is misplaced I feel. Its really about respect. Theres the respect for yourself and what you owe yourself to do well and try. The respect to be gained from your fellow team mates for doing your best in the combined efffort. Respect for those who seek to empower you and mentor you through your career and the respect you may gain from the club for honouring your part of the committment in this accord. This isnt about some sort of compact between a band of brothers , thats loyalty. Were talking about doing your job properly and doing what is asked of you, in return for a lot of lolly.

You need to get over Operation Scully - some of us have moved on. But I do like your persistence.
Rhino Richards 1,467 Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 I am not sure why you are making skiting predictions about other posters statements when you have have been such a memorable poor sod example of it. And its ironic that you want to label others as a "fool". Guess that will be missed as well with you. True to label.
Sir Why You Little 37,498 Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 It all depends on his ability to run.
