I'm sorry but it rubs me up the wrong way to see you support the new coach so passionatley, yet kick guys like jordie who have been trying their best for the club for a number of years now. I agree that our midfield would benefit from some talented players, but i think Jordie deserves the fans appreciation becasue you cant fault his endevour - thats all we can really ask from the players on the list.

McKenzie doesn't add much to our team, what he does is try and take away from the other team. He's not all that flash and is at best an average player, but there are many that should go before him. He is one of only a few at the club who continually puts in 100%. It is his type that develops culture within a club.

Anyone who says McKenzie is no good because he doesn't 'grab the ball, run it out of the guts and kick goals' (like they are a dime a dozen) has little idea of modern football. He will be judged on how he performs the role he is asked to do, which he is doing reasonably well. Every midfield needs defensively minded players, nobody can completely fill their midfield with Abletts and Pendleburys.

That's partly the issue. Jordie can deliver with class, if he's allowed to handball. I assume that Neeld has noted that kicking is a weak point, and so he is under orders to kick whenever he can. He's one of the few in the side whose kick ratio has actually increased this year.

And I'd agree with rpfc. Easily in the first five picked when fit.

But I think we all have to acknowledge that the MFC has a poor list, it is no accident that we have only one geniune win and sit last on the ladder after 5 years of rebuilding the team.

That suggests to me that a large number of our team are not AFL standard.

As Dees supporters we try and find the best in our team even when it is crap.

The results put that beyond dispute.

Of course we cannot dump 25 players from the list but a large number of them have to be replaced over the next 3 years

Yes i was a big JM fan but he is not a great mid.

He can play a good role but he can not take this midfield forward.

18 touches is not something to be happy about when your playing in the middle.

No, not like Jack Watts at present.

I am not saying he is the greatest player, i obviously like him. But i think our game has a place for taggers 1 or 2 a team max., and JM is a good one imo. tackles hard and often, 5 a game generally. and gets it 15 times himself. Not rubbish. And has tagged some big players into the ground imo.

edit - what may be inetersting is when the team, if the team improves dramatically. Neeld said at Collingwood they were good enough that they didnt tag players. Will he have a spot then? atm our midfield isnt good enough,when you are top 4 you go head to head more often than tagging.

I am probably in the OldDee camp on this one. I really respect Jordie's effort but to be honest, he wouldn't get a start or a look in at a lot of other clubs.

I have been a big one for advocating that we breed tough and determined footballers but also I do think talent is important. Our problem for the last 5 years has been that we have picked up talented kids and turned them into pea hearts.

Fair enough OD, but after seeing Jones' improvement in all facets of his game in the past 3 years, I see no reason why McKenzie can't apply himself and raise his standard as well.

Well said. Jonesy could maybe take Jordie under his wing starting in this off season and guide him on his way to Demonland universal redemption. I can think of no better mentor for him.

The problem with Jordie is not so much the role that he plays, and yes, he is limited , but there is no silk around him.Not everyone in your midfield can be an Ablett (we dont even have a Nathan Ablett).

Cameron Ling - very much in the McKenzie mould (although later in his career he did start kicking goals). I am not bagging Ling but he had a plethora of gems around him to dish off to that enhanced his reputation.Lings main role was not racking up possessions, was not as an extractor (like Mitchell)- he was a shut down king BUT he could find a bit of the ball whilst tagging and McKenzie finds a bit of the ball too which is very much in his favour.

edit-as a postscript - I think that a McKenzie would be invaluable rotating in a midfield like Collingwood - imagine him sitting on the oppositions best midfielder and get his 20 possessions and feeding it to Beams, Swan and Pendlebury. Carrazzo started life that way and has the shackles removed a little and look how he has turned out - playing a very valuable third fiddle to Judd and Murphy - the silk.

Good that nobody is really bagging the "Ranga" cause we all no that the kid gives his all, all the time for the jumper. He deserves his spot in the team, atm, his skills really do need to improve ova the pre season or he will b left out IF we find a replacement!

McKenzie in a good team would be a highly valued player. In our team we see the value in him but he is frustratingly limited in what he can do. And we can't afford that, we have too many limited players as it stands.

I for one could not believe this thread, Jordie is like the rest of the young guys still learning, he is just 22 and has played 58 games, he should peak in about two years, and he is kicking more this season, he has to under Neeld but he also hasn't forgotten how to tackle and get in and under....Jonesy was getting threads like this two years ago, probably from the same people....

Here is a simple plan....to RR, Old Dee etc etc...we have one game to go, when that is finished, stop supporting Melbourne Football Club and find one that has 22 guns and is about to be successful, that way MFC is left to supporters who support..

Christ I have been as frustrated as the next person at times this season. but I have listened to what the Club is saying, and I have asked questions at every opportunity I have had........but I have never and never will bag any player.....I was certainly not good enough to play AFL footy when I was young enough.....how many posters are/were good enough..give them a bloody chance....

the way some posters post you would think that the Club hasn't played finals since the end of the 19th century.....it was six years ago, and then unfortunately everything that could go wrong has......get over it...success is coming.....listen...we are financially sound, have state of the art facilities, good coaching and fitness staff who know what success looks like.......but all that has only happened in the last couple of years, we have had a lot of catching up to do

The last place that will occur is on the footy field, but it will happen
