Optimists only - let's dream

Putting aside the ridiculous tanking allegations, we've had a fantastic couple of months with regards to our recruiting .

Is it true that Hogan will be playing at Casey next season ? If so , he gets the chance to play against men for a full year (which can only be good for his development)

We will be fit and raring to go .

Sure is :) we have been given permission to play him in the VFL next season. Neeld has already said he won't play every game but he will be playing. It will give him a good headstart on the other recruits picked up next season :)

I'm picturing a whole heap of Demon fans at Casey games walking from one end of the ground to the other after each quarter (John Coleman style!) . That's if he plays deep forward of course .

It's kinda like fast tracking the bloke in many ways . If he was at draft age this year he may well have played a decent amount of 2nd eighteen footy anyway . All good .

Having tried to start a thread just for the pessimists, only to have it closed by the thought police, I'll put this back on the agenda. Why is it that some folk find it so hard to resist the temptation to indulge their pessimism at every opportunity? I find the constant sniping at players, coaches, recruiters and administrators really tedious. Yes it's okay to have an opinion but surely there must be some sunshine somewhere.

And ushering a particular school of thought into one thread isn't 'policing' it?

Forgive those who aren't wtting their pants with excitement after a run of 90 losses in 120 games.

It was closed crawf52 as a preventative measure against flaming. No hard feelings.

You should find solace and sunshine here in the Optimists thread. Understand the frustration and you've always got the option of the ignore function if need be.

The thing in common with all is the best interests of the Melbourne Football Club, just that fans/members/posters have different views on how to get *there.

*And "there" may be represented by different objectives or methods. Hell, there might even be a different goal for some supporters..

What is 'flaming'? You might need to explain.

I understand what you're saying HT but I'm not sure I agree with the "best interests" assertion. Some of this stuff is just terminally negative with never a constructive comment. I'd be happy to hear these opinions if there was a solution and an answer as to the how to get "there" part of it. It just doesn't seem to appear.

Ah well, as you say, there's always the ignore button. I just can't bring myself to over-ride their right to have their say. My thread was intended to be humorous more than inflammatory.

I have no power to 'police' anything. I started a facetious thread to satisfy my own sense of humour. Nothing more. I'm not sure how this is "ushering a particular school of thought". It's just me exercising my right to air an opinion.

Nobody says you should be "wetting your pants". I'm simply suggesting that some of us on here seem to be so anti MFC it's hard to reconcile their comments as coming from supporters.

Ahh so it was a joke thread. Cool. I thought for a moment you were serious about wanting to isolate posters with a different opinion to yours.

I have already erased 2009 - 2012 from my memory.

I can't wait to see Dawes, Clark, Peds, Sylvia and Howe tear it up down there this year - Bring on 2013!!!

Add in Byrnes, Watts, McDonald and the two Jones boys and I see us making the eight in 2013 unless unscheduled injuries intervene!

This time tomorrow I'll be heading to Etihad to see the beloved DEES show their new stuff. I'm optimistic that we'll be pleasantly surprised.

I'm hopeful that a lot of us will be there to witness the rebirth of the mighty DEES. Get on down boys and girls and show everybody we're proud, passionate and paid up... Has that one been used before?

How about Deecided, Deetermined and deemonic in our deesire to deefeat the opposition.

Go DEES!

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
