Robert Walls you Idiot

Featured Replies

A short post because its not Demons - but Walls is a goose a'la Sheehan and Robbo. Stupid article to say the cats had no chance. Malthouse was also wrong when he said they wouldn't play finals. I see Geelong and Swans in the grand final. Why the age gives the man inches is beyond me.

I think the biggest talkin point is how Cyril rioli didn't get a free kick and kick the winner

He knocked the ball out as he tackled?

Holdin the ball.....

Holding the ball everyday of the week, looked up took two or three steps got tackled incorrect disposal, was puopolo tanking??

This is a man who knows the rules.

I dislike Geelong immensely (for some reason) and at first thought it was holding the ball - but after seeing a replay, Cyril clearly knocks the ball out and it therefore cannot be incorrect disposal (as much as I wanted it to be).

This thread title should be a sticky at the top of the forums because he says enough things every week to keep it there.

As much as it gives me the screaming sh!ts, that isn't being called holding the ball this season. The umpires have taken the view that they would rather the game keep moving, than pay a free kick. Watch how often these absolutely blatant holding the balls aren't called in the next few weeks.

It has been bugging me all year.

Either way it was an awesome game, and the Hawks carried some arrogance into this much. How did they allow the Cats such a massive head start?? Almost MFC-like with their slow starts!

I've got nothing but respect for Geelong. I love it that they beat the Hawks after all the build up.

It does not matter if Geelong finish 1st of 8th. Anyone who meets them in a final will be packing bricks in their pants.

whether it was or was not a free there was other instances where an unwarranted free was given against geelong resulting in a hawthorn goal. for instance the free given against mackie for an in the back in a marking duel 25m out was blatantly wrong. Then there was the missed head high hit on podsiadly by guerra in geelongs forward line when the hawks then went coast to coast for a goal.

net result: i don't think hawthorn got a bad deal from the umpires

I agree, I think Hawthorn got quite favourable treatment from the umpires.

Watched a replay of the 89 Grand final recently, I know umpires are less blowy in the big game but gee it was enjoyable to watch, the umps paying "blind freddy" obvious frees only. Current games, I find myself screaming, "play on, play on, please FFS, let them play on".

To be honest, I felt cheated watching this game. I thought of how this is the standard and how far away we are. When I saw Joel Selwood get ironed out by Sam Mitchell and them jump up and get straight to the next context, I thought who at our club would have the guts to do that, besides Jonesy or Mitch Clark?

Watching the elite teams is torture for me.

I definitely agree with the sentiment, but I find my response has now become the opposite.

I watch games, not usually enjoying the general play but mores assessing each contest and usually finding myself saying "that's a free...that's usually a free...that should be a free." Very frustrating.

You weren't at the '89 were you?

Greatest game i have ever seen. Pure gladitorial football.

You watch that game from a 2012 perspective. When i watch it, it is still a live contest.

That probably has something to do with the wiring in your brain...

I wasn't even talking about the '89 Grand Final. That was pretty clear I'd have thought.

Well Red eye was, so it was a fair assumption.

No, I'm saying that now I watch games and find myself looking for free kicks most of the time because of how over-umpired games are. It takes away from the enjoyment of the spectacle.

Ok gotcha. I think the modern game is over umpired, but the injuries in the old days were at times horrific, so i can see why changes were made.

But the bloody battles are missed. 1970's finals were incredible spectacles from the stand.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
