Cloke and Collingwood - to part or not to part?

Featured Replies

Well it wouldnt be Carlton. They are already in enough debt that we never hear about. He will go to GWS I think.

Sheedy has already come out and said they are not going after Cloke.

What about Lucas "sticky hands" Cook??

He will be our Cloke. Its not as if we are finals bound anytime soon. Id rather persist with Cook as our FF as IMO he will be a gun. Why would Cloke want to come to the Dee's anyway?? In all seriousness we have won one game for the year, we arent going to attract superstars anytime soon.

The year is not yet half done. If, as we all hope, things are finally starting to fall into place and they can come home with a wet sail, the prospects will be lining up to get onboard.

Cloke not worth near the coin being talked .

Hope we stay well clear.

Thank God someone said it. Q Lynch looked good in 2005-6 too.

Im sure you are not that silly to beleive a word that Sheedy says.

And thats why I said anytime soon. Players dont just make their mind up at seasons end, they will be following our form and culture from a long way back. I of all people hope we do attract some quality, but Cloke is not worth that amount.

Cloke is an interesting one. A big unit who contests and takes pack marks. But his kicking has returned to being very average this year. Could that be because of these contract negotiations?

Cloke is flawed but most are

$900,000 per year is a lot, but when he is on he is unstoppable.

Is he right for the MFC with a youngJack Viney finding the ball?

Sheedy has already come out and said they are not going after Cloke.

Which is exactly why he is most likely GWS bound.

I would have jumped at Travis Cloke 12 months ago, and paid him what Mitch Clark is getting. But Mitch Clark has been a perfect match. I agree with poster above about Lucas Cook - he will be in ouir side next year and you watch his one-grab marking ability. Travis Cloke is only worth $620K - $640K in my opinion but our need of him has passed.

Accepted... but in the past he has not been shy to signal his intentions, as was the case with a certain young TS.

Many were saying the same about Clark, but I think now you would find few doubters. The reason I believe the club will make an all-out attempt to secure Cloke is that Neeld (I think it was, or was it McClardy?) stated last week that they are targeting a big bodied strong forward.

I wonder if the old phrase referring to Mutton and Lamb rings anyones bells currently ?

Cloke is good...but hes not marvellous and certainly not worth the silly money being proffered by some. Good luck to Travis and Dad for extracting what they can, just hopefully not from us :)

Let Cloke do a Buddy and then hed be worth a monty. Our problem ISNT that we have no one to kick goals, its that we dont have a purring midfiled to drive our game. Lets fix the right problem ...huh

I think Clark is worth every penny and may even be more valuable if we inject some midfield class. Cloke is good when hes on but Id only pay him $50k more than Clark because thats all I think hes worth, which would put him around the $640,000 mark. I think thats a fair price, not $900,000. Im getting excited to see Cook next year.

We are not in the right part of the cycle to go for a Cloke, a club like Carlton if they could afford him are an ideal fit.

We need to build from within and both Lucas Cook and Jai Sheahan are in the system, Jai is being played down back at the moment but was a KPF at the Falcons. I really believe in the Geelong model of building your own with the odd nudge, Ottens for them Clark for us.

I'm also old enough to remember Templeton, Moore, Tilbrook etc waiting for the messiah, all the eggs in the one basket whatever you choose to call it football is a team game. Build a strong list not blow it all on one player.

I see a lot of similar traits in Cook as I do in Jack Reiwoldt, just needs a few more kg's, maturity and he'll be worth the wait.

The only downside to Collingwood losing their star forward, is that GWS will most likely gain a star forward, and that club most certainly don't deserve to get better.

Gubby Allan has stated that they're not interested in Cloke.

Clark, Howe, and Garland.. Throw in Cook and Jurrah ( who knows ) and im not sure where any need is for someone like Cloke, really, i dont.

Theres half a dozen blokes who can easily slot'em on their day .

Again..the problems not the sharp end, this will become quite potent, once its fed well.

Gubby Allan has stated that they're not interested in Cloke.

And Gubby NEVER lies !!

He's headed for a northern suburbs club where he can enjoy the local pasta according to my mail.

Big offer, can't refuse that blows all offers out of the water.

Don't know how they do it but they always manage to fit players in their salary cap.

I hope so, & E'd can build his house out of recycled beer cartons for all I care.

If its true Cloke has knocked back an assumed large (but not large enough) deal from a grand final contending team, playing glory probably isn't his foremost priority. That or he's just ribbing eddie

Your kidding me, he is the best power fwd in the comp by an absolute mile! If we got cloke we would have close to the best fwd line in the comp. Im hearing 950k/5yr deal the dees will offer. He's an absolute monster, get him in!

Yeah, he kicked 13 goals on the weekend for god sake.

People really do overrate our players a lot. I heard Dunns name mentioned in this thread, Cook been at the club for 1.5 seasons now and hasnt ha a sniff of any sort of senior football, Cloke is one of the best in the league

Cloke had 95 contested marks last year.

38 more than Pods who was next best.

He is a great forward who kicked 69 goals last year.

It's black and white.

And we should attempt to change those colours...

No man is an island . Consider why cloke has decent stats. Surround our forwards, esp Clark with such support and hed present similar results id suggest. Spend the money in the midfield for mine.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.
