i love this 'they won't be part of our premiership so lets trade them theory'....mate we aren't even bloody guaranteed making finals anytime soon and you are thinking about premierships...

Haven't people on here learnt, kids alone will get you nowhere...we gave up so many of the very few senior players we already had and look at us now. Not only do we try and keep all our senior players...but we try and recruit a few more to balance the side out a bit.

Sometimes topics on here make me laugh and actually flabbergast me...

We all underrate Jamar because he rarely goes forward and looks dangerous and he rarely gets more than 10 touches but what he can give you is three years of terribly good ruckwork and the stature of a player who is in the top 5 for his trade in the game.

When we get our midfield sorted out we will all be saying how important Jamar suddenly is.

I'm convinced we all OVER-RATE jamar.

Names on a list aren't depth.

We trade out Jamar- we will have Martin as first ruck. Martin goes down we have NO rucks- because Clark is a forward, Gawn and Spencil aren't ready and may never be.

This thread is up there with the Michael Newton thread for lols

Spencer couldn't have done much better than he did yesterday v.the Bendigo Bombers.

With Jamar rucking they'd have been killed.

I agree with the OP, but you wont get much love around here.

It was a mistake to sign Jamar, no doubt at all.

OP is 100% spot on.

Im convinced Neeld &co neither over rate nor under rate Jamar. Im convinced they know exactly how he fits into the big picture he has. Most likely its this understanding that saw Jamar re-signed. It would be the same understanding that has the Russian as the MFC 1st ruck when ever he's fit to take the field.

Yep Im pretty sure his value is understood, neither over rated nor underated.....just rated right !!

The decision to sign Mark Jamar for a further three years was an error in my view and we should look to trade him at the end of the year.

You lost it with this first line, thanks to the Heffernan trade that we got from Essendon you cannot trade someone on after signing them up.

And if our time without Clark has taught me anything is that our gameplan requires a tall marking FF, Mitch has been that and should stay that. He can pinch hit in the ruck on a needs basis but forward is where he's needed.

As for Jamar, he's having an off year but is also coming to terms with a new way of going about things. He is still a better ruckman and player than Stef.

Yes, our ruck stocks are very strong, .... oh so strong and with good depth ol chap. We are very competitive in the midfield as highlighted by our position on the ladder, so we can afford to trade one of our most important players at seasons end, because a three year deal was an utter mistake, and we frown upon loyalty when things are....how do you say it ...? - oh so rosy !

I think I have your rhetoric and style pegged...

Say something that is only designed to raise ire and say it in the starkest of terms so that no-one can ignore their own raised ire.

Loses its punch if you do it too often though.

You wear out peoples ires and they just get tired and bored...

You are missing the point. I still think Jamar is a handy player, but we aren't going to win a flag while Jamar is still at the club. Trading him for someone who may be part of a premiership is worth the risk.

Moreover, we have a good replacement in Martin.

Not trying a wind up (honestly) but who was it that you were 100% certain was gone (to GWS). ,Can't be bothered going back through old posts but am i right in thinking you had it on good authority Jamar was off up north westish?

Ahhhh the kiss of death.

Jamar's going nowhere.

If we are to trade any of our ruckmen, it'll be Martin or Spencer seeking greater opportunities at somewhere like Geelong, Port Adelaide or GWS where they'd be in with a shot of landing the No 1 ruck role or Hawthorn or St. Kilda where they'd be guarenteed the No 2 ruckman spot.

No.

And this is not a Jamar bash thread. Rather my view just takes into account Jamar's age, where we are presently at, my positive view of Martin as a ruckman and Jamar's likely trade value. And I also don't think our side is balanced with Jamar, Clark and Martin in it, as Martin has never really excelled as a KPF.

FT..you DO realise Rucks notoriously take longer to come to their peak of proesse and invariably are quite able to remain effective through their early 30's ?

Am very happy for him to see out his years in Red and Blue

Jamar is a lumbering tap ruckman rather than an athletic one, so I don't think he is likely to play great footy in his 30s. And I doubt we will be a contender in the next three years.

Furthermore, I think we should also be planning for an AFL rules change to open the game up. (i.e. a move to 2+2 on the bench.)

Spot on bb.

You only have to look at what happened on Saturday.

Jamar may not be around when the Dees are top four but we sure as hell need him for the next three years.

I would prefer a elite tap ruckman who does nothing else than nothing at all.

It means we don't have to go and find another one and it will allow us to groom his replacement - whether it be Gawn, Spencer, or someone else.

We are not in a position to be so blase about trading good players...

So let me getthis right...

He's already a LUMBERING ruckman... not an ATHLETIC ruckman... yet you think he won't be able to play into his 30s because why?

Because he'll lose his non-existent athleticism?

If he already gets by being a very solid consistent ruckman as he "lumbers around", what will change?

The only issue I see is injury, and I don't see any reason why we should believe he has chronic calf injuries at this stage.

Your logic just don't add up.

This is exactly why sensible clubs don't sign (almost) 29 year olds to 3 year contracts, unless they are truly elite (which Jamar certainly isn't).

Longer term could essentially end up back up a la Robbie Cambell, at a cheapish veterans cost. Added mentoring value a plus and the club have been fair to him. After reading a bit on here and a rethink, seems fair enough although initially I thought three years was over the top.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
