Bennell Gone For The Year

Featured Replies

Sad to hear another Demon gone for the year and this time it is Bennell.

Ruptured ACL according to Neeld.

Regardless of form or position in the team it is a shocking injury and I wish Jamie all the best in his recovery.

Yeah -- all the best. Is his contract up this year? Some have had him as a delist, and this surely can't help his cause.

real shame - I saw a bit from him today that I hvent seen in years. So its a pity that he hasnt been able to show what he can do this season consistently.

Terribly tough on Jamie. The remainder of the season was huge in the context of his place on our list, and now he has to spend it on the sidelines. Have a speedy and complete recovery Jamie.

Shocking News, much maligned but has played well last 2 weeks, speedy recovery and look foward to seeing him playing next year in the red and blue, and the club will do the right thing by him Im sure

I didn't even see it....when did it happen??

A bit of a dogs act by McPharlin in a marking contest put Jamie off balance while he was in the air and his knee buckled as he landed.

I would have to see it again but I'm pretty sure there was nothing sinister from McPharlin. Just landed really awkwardly and sort of rolled his ankle which must have put a bit of pressure on his knee. Hope he gets over it and is ready to go for pre-season.

Good luck Jamie.

No one wants to see a guy hurt his knee or other serious career threatening injury.. I hope your surgery goes really well & best of luck next year.

Hope he recovers quickly. I don't think we'll see him in a red and blue jumper again.

Actually he is in a spot But, this could be a blessing for him come the draft.

I think anyone who ever thought Bennell would be delisted this year was kidding themselves.

He'll be at the club next season, no question.

I think there are some doubts that your post is correct.I am one that feel even before his injury,he was under a cloud.

Oh, well its sorted then. Thanks for letting us know. We were all concerned.

Don't like hearing an opinion different to yours, smart arse?

what is your sauce? do remember his contract is up this year..

Ironically his injury makes it much less likely he'll be delisted.

I had the binoculars on him as he was being assisted down the race. His knee was sticking out at a terrible angle - and the pain on his face said it all.

Speedy recovery Jamie.

Doc Larkins analysed the injury on the telly this morning and said that there was a lot of work for the surgeons to do, as there was lateral damage too.

He said at least a year, and a likely career-threatening injury.

FYI.

Depending upon actual prognosis he might become a candidate for being paid out. Whether anyone likes it or not; Bennel included unfortunately :(

How are we kidding ourself he has done very little since coming to the club and maybe averged 6 touches a game.

He has done sweet f all and is in alot of danger IMO.

All the best with the knee mate but i fear he might not get another chance.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons return to the MCG wounded, undermanned and desperate. Still searching for their first win of the season, Melbourne faces a daunting task against the Fremantle Dockers. With key pillars missing at both ends of the ground, the Dees must find a way to rise above the adversity and ignite their season before it slips way beyond reach. Will today be the spark that turns it all around, or are we staring down the barrel of a 0–6 start?

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

A month is a long time in AFL football. The proof of this is in the current state of the two teams contesting against each other early this Saturday afternoon at the MCG. It’s hard to fathom that when Melbourne and Fremantle kicked off the 2025 season, the former looked like being a major player in this year’s competition after it came close to beating one of the favourites in the GWS Giants while the latter was smashed by Geelong to the tune of 78 points and looked like rubbish. Fast forward to today and the Demons are low on confidence and appear panic stricken as their winless streak heads towards an even half dozen and pressure mounts on the coach and team leadership.  Meanwhile, the Dockers have recovered their composure and now sit in the top eight. They are definitely on the up and up and look most likely winners this weekend against a team which they have recently dominated and which struggles to find enough passages to the goals to trouble the scorers. And with that, Fremantle will head to the MCG, feeling very good about itself after demolishing Richmond in the Barossa Valley with Josh Treacy coming off a six goal haul and facing up to a Melbourne defence already without Jake Lever and a shaky Steven May needing to pass a fitness test just to make it onto the field of play.
