i do honestly believe Boak is worth pick 4. hes a gun.. just sometimes players dont work out, id just be worried he doesnt fit into melbourne

He is not worth pick 4 on it's own, he is not Chris Judd. If he wants to leave Port's hands are tied Pick 13 shoud be before anything Geelong & North can offer, would rather get two good kids with pick 3/4 maybe use one on MD and from what I have seen Toumpas is the one I would take but in all honesty haven't seen enough of any of these kids in the mix.

Highlight reels are one thing but watching these kids live allows you to see how they read the play, their workrate, intensity, attack on the footy and the 1%ers.

Don't get me wrong Boak is a good smart player but if Port want pick 4 I'm sorry give us Boak and Pick 7 in return but only after we have established Viney will be coming via a second round pick after FS nominations. We will have pick 3 in PSD so Port can sweat over that as well

I've heard we are prpeared to offer Port pick 4 for him. Not saying I agree with it but I have heard this may be the case.

No-one could trump that so if Boak decided he wants to come home to Melbourne it may well be the MFC or no dice.

I don't want Boak. He's a good mid, but far from a great one and he doesn't have one "special" quality", unlike the Cotchin's of this world.

Keep pick 4 and draft our own talent.

how good do you guys think he is going to be? Cotchin like?

Hmmn, sounds like we'd be up against it now Carltank & the Bombouts have a pick superior to our Mid 1st Rnd pick.

He is not in that class, no. Which is why we shouldn't spending a no.3 pick in a superdraft on him.

There's been an easing off of the "superdraft" talk, although it's better than usual.

And not everyone would agree with you regarding Viney. Quality inside mids with his attack on the ball and skill-set are like gold in my opinion.

Nathan Hvorat anyone?

Yes but what we really short of is running classy kicking mids.

Viney is great inside hard ball winner & hard worker.. currently we have Jones & Beamer, Trenners, etc. We don't have much in the Mark Murphy mold.

We really need the Toumpas running mid with speed & elite disposal types, more than anything else. And we need them Now. not so much 2014.

I really like Hrovat, but he's an inferior player to Viney. Viney is better inside and more aggressive at contests.

I reckon Viney's strengths are taken for granted around here. Ron Barassi wasn't considered to be the most skilled player to ever play the game, but he was manic at the contest and had fierce drive and determination. He was 179cm's tall. Leigh Matthews is the second best player I've seen. He was highly skilled, but he was also manic at the contest with a fierce determination. He was 178cm's tall. Barassi is generally considered Melbourne's finest player and Matthews Hawthorn's finest. Jack Viney is also not tall at 178cm's and he may not be half the player they were, but anyone who has ever watched him considers him the most aggressive and manic player they've seen and also with fierce determination. I reckon those traits will make him elite. Plus his pace and skills are good.

Clearly I don't get the angst some have. And no, I'm not suggesting he's the "messiah".

Yes, so ?. We have more than one draft pick.

Rather than tell me what we need perhaps read more. We all know what we lack and we want those areas addressed also. But we won't solve all our ills in one draft. And I still rate inside big bodied mids as the most important mids in the game.

I'm sure we'll try to get the balance right.

It's his (lack of) height that makes me angsty. At 178cm he's going to have to be exceptional. I stood next to him out at Casey a couple weeks back. He's a little bloke.

lol! yes! Am merely a cog though. Try not to bag out on players with constant gusto like some. Bad worker blames his tools. An oldie but a goodie. Lets see how 2013 PANS out.

And I wanted to add:

He's been exceptional in every year he's played footy dating back to the under 9's.

He got moved up an age group because he was hurting other kids.

He was exceptional when he played in a senior school premiership team when he was 14.

He was exceptional when he was best for SA in the under 16 interstate championships.

He was exceptional when he won the medal for best on ground in last year's TAC Cup GF as a bottom ager with teammates such as Toby Greene.

He was exceptional when he came back two weeks ago for his second game for Casey and won the most possessions and hardball gets.

And you're worried that he's the same height as Leigh Matthews, Sam Mitchell, Ben Cousins, and a heap of others, and taller than Shane Crawford ?

Range, you either have faith or you don't.

He was exceptional when he made AA when he was bottom age in the under 18 interstate championships.

Close but no cigar. Viney didn’t make AA last year but he would have been close and he would’ve been a definite AA this year but for injury - Metro dominate AA selections

2011 All Australian Under 18 team:

Defenders: Jed Anderson (NT), Michael Talia (Vic Metro), Brandon Ellis (Vic Metro), Brad Crouch (Vic Country), Brody Mihocek (Tas), Alex Forster (SA)

Midfield: Billy Longer (Vic Metro), Dom Tyson (Vic Metro), Stephen Coniglio (WA), Jaeger O’Meara (WA), Toby Greene (Vic Metro), Will Hoskin-Elliott (Vic Metro)

Forwards: Chad Wingard (SA), Sam Mayes (SA), Lachie Whitfield (Vic Country), Ben Kennedy (SA), Jonathon Patton (Vic Metro), John McKenzie (Tas)

Interchange: Mitchell Grigg (SA), Brodie Grundy (SA), Taylor Adams (Vic Country), Clay Smith (Vic Country)

Coach: Rohan Welsh (Vic Metro)

Assistant Coach: Matt Armstrong (TAS

Good points all ... but at pick no.3 I want him to be every bit as good as Mitchell, Cousins and Crawford.

He must prove to be as good or better than the other options available at that pick.

Will he be? I hope so.

Good, I'm glad to find that out.

That means we can take skilled users of the ball early, & grab some hard inside players toward the 2nd Rnd.

You like big inside Mids, in that case we better look at Stringer & Wines.

IMO the Class is early in the Draft, & running classy Mids are always high on Clubs shopping lists.

Toumpas may be gone for this reason, but we still really have a dearth of these Class Inside/Outside Mids who can deliver lace out.

Sadly there are no guarantees in AFL football its a tough, hard, brutal "game" if you want your "hopes" to be realised in AFL- I think you have chosen the wrong game.

Player selection is a tough, hard, brutal "game" where many outcomes must be judged by more than merely just the player. If only we exclusively had HG Wells and his time machine - shivers we would be celebrating a flag on a yearly basis. BUT we dont have.

How are young Toumpas injuries going? 100% fixed? Any chance they will ever flare up in the future?

    REDLEG PRIDE by Meggs

Hump day mid-week footy at the Redlegs home ground is a great opportunity to build on our recent improved competitiveness playing in the red and blue.   The jumper has a few other colours this week with the rainbow Pride flag flying this round to celebrate people from all walks of life coming together, being accepted. AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm
