Since round 1 2005, we have had 1 home game v essendon out of 8 games.

In a period that we werent in amazing financial health, there's at least 2 games of revenue missing from those years.

Also the little conspiracy theory that the afl does this because the bombers refuse to have an away strip and we clash. Red shorts is not an away strip.

Imagine if this record was against the eagles?

It drives me nuts how we always have to wear our white 'clash' jumper against the Bummers. Do they even have a clash strip other than red shorts?

It's against their constitution, apparently (or was that Collingwood?). Never understood why the AFL didn't have the balls to veto that since they're so rigid on the clash strip rules, especially since our clash with Essendon is probably one of the worst in the whole comp. One rule for one club, one rule for the 15 or whatever others.

A few years ago I voiced my displeasure on the AFL's stance. And stated something like "say goodbye to wearing our traditional jumper against Essendon" (or along those lines), just makes it easier to schedule one game per year and make it a home game for Essendon - that would be AA's and Big Gil's view at a guess; less confrontational.

Like my club, I've grown weary of it; besides atm its the least of our issues.

The reason is because we get a home game against Collingwood every year. The AFL splits the difference as much as possible between home games against the Pies and Bombers (or so they say). So as long as we get Queens Bday as a home game we are unlikely to have a home game against Essendon any time soon. As long as we dont have to play them at Docklands I'm not too fussed. Clash jumpers are rubbish though and annoy the hell out of me.

What can I say? The AFL works in mysterious ways - not sure if their stance on "profit maximisation" of the draw has changed much since 2005 but if I remember correctly we often played Essendon once a year back then anyway. Don't take it as gospel I think it's what I was told by someone on BF but it does make sense if you think of it that way.

This subject always intrigues me.

What is it that everyone does not understand.

The Pies and Bombers are both Rich, powerful and have lots of members.

The MFC struggles financially and needs hands out from the AFL, has little power and does not have a lot of supporters.

What is it exactly that you're suggesting 'everyone' doesn't understand?

If it's that the AFL is more willing to bend the clash jumper rules for Essendon (and Collingwood) you're a bit late with the revelation, since it's been mentioned from the first post.

It has been a recuring thread for 3 years that I can remember.

While I agree totally with the sentiments expressed about Essendon, and I am a passionate hater of Collingwood, I have to make the point that no-one should have an issue with Collingwood's clash jumper. While their traditional jumper is primarily black, their clash jumper is primarily white, and definitely conforms with the requirements of reducing clashes.

But, Essendon are a case on their own. They should be forced to come up with an ACCEPTABLE clash jumper for those occasions when needed, and stripped of 4 premiership points every time they don't!
