Saw on the German English news last week or the week before that Opel were having some large staff cut backs at 2 different operational plants in Germany. Apparantly they have not been performing that well in the European sector.

Opel almost closed down about 3 years ago. The German Govt helped out as an entire small city would have been decimated. Opel do not have a great name in Europe. There are so many rivals to contend with.

Opel is the European arm of General Motors.

when GM faced oblivion a few years back Opel was on the market.

However with the GM turn around they are still part of GM.

Opel have been sold in Australia under the Holden name for 30 years.

The original Commodore was an Opel design.

since then Holden have sold the Astra and Barina in Australia these were Opel renamed Holden imports.

In the last few years Holden have moved from Opel small cars to GM Korean ( Formerly Daewoo ) cars to replace the Astra and Barina.

Now Opel are going to sell their vehicles in Australia as a separate company to Holden.

It is a large company in Europe.

Sorry if this is boring you all but that is a brief description of OPEL

Hopefully I am wrong - but wasn't the Opel and Webjet contracts only a one year sponsorship deal?

Are we on the market for 2 new major sponsors if they choose not to renew in a months time?

Thanks for that.

All I know is that the Opel Ampera is the Chevy Volt - the electric car that is getting some traction over in the US.

When I was a kid in Ireland my father drove an Opel Kadet, (Holden Gemini) and I know Opel still is the big seller in Ireland,

Not sure if they still do but Opel were the main sponsor for Bayern Munich for a long time and also sponsored the Irish National side from 1987 to 2000

Not to forget, Holden used Opel gearboxes from 1967

then a few years later the Aussie 4 speed was made locally that was far superior.

But thats for another forum.

Yes, the Commodore sold here was indeed based upon the German ( Opel ) designed Kommodore but was as ignificntly redesigned and reengineered car for here. They ( fish-bend ) broke the original cars sent here just to prove how inadequate they were for oZ.

Opel is actually one of the Gems in GM. Was only going to be sold because it could be, like Holden. The rest of GM is next to worthless ( or was )

Am very happy Opel sees the MFC as a useful vehicle to laucnh and promote its brand

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session.
