This is not about Mark Neeld in particular... this is a club Presser and before anyone defends it with the argument that we have to stay positive, I can't see any reason why today's shambles shouldn't have been followed by a press release that shows some recognition of how much we gave up. Get with Reality and stop the justification.

Why not declare that we are embarrassed by our performance and lack of endeavour and have one of our oversupply of "captains" and "leadership group" apologise to the supporters and sponsors.

Who will pay to come to watch this dross and then be told that it's actually ok...... if this performance continues the club won't make it to 2015.

Agree with you to an extent.There's being positive and then there's avoiding reality.

Supporters will tune out if we feel we're being drip fed the usual platitudes.

Just give us brutal honesty Neeldy (and Schwab). It's what this club needs within and without.

To be honest, look what honesty got Mark Neeld after round 1. He was drawn out into the halls of the media and his job was made more difficult by people always wanting to hear more from him. There's a reason coaches never give much. Their job is to focus on the next game and how it fits into the overall scheme of things at their club. What the media and supporters think is largely irrelevant to a coach.

I personally want honesty (a la the first round), but I'm not too fussed with Neeld's subsequent approach.

To commend our last qtr was a joke. Have we really sunk so low that the coach is praising a 5 goal apiece quarter against a rubbish side.

Really? Maybe he, like me, was just so relieved that the last Quarter wasn't a repeat of the third Quarter 9 goal to 1 drubbing...!

I've been watching Melbourne sides catch up on the score board when the PRESSURE has been off in the last quarter for 40 years.

I just watched the presser with Neeld then, and bloody hell it is hard to do so... I also make sure I give myself time to cool down by watching the next day. Sure I was [censored] off like everyone else was with the performance yesterday, but then by cooling down and listening to this helps me to try understand where things are headed. We have gone backwards for sure, but I am hoping it is one step back and two steps forward.

I don't have much more to add except that Neeld is the senior coach, he is calling the shots and we have no choice but to stick fat, whether we like it or not... the club saw fit to bring him, Misson and Craig into the club to turn thing around and I hope they can, if they can't, well let face it that will look after itself too.

Since "186" we have had a massive amount of instability surrounding the club, the structures that Neeld and Misson are creating whilst I hope are solid good, are still a source of instability that the players and supporters are struggling with. The last month has rocked the club a fair bit.... but we need 2-3 years of stability, not 2-3 weeks.

Hope this isn't seen as overly positive, just trying to be realistic.

Neeld can hardly come out and say 'we were [censored], 18 of the 22 today were spuds' etc. The knobs at the Hun would have a week of stories out of that. What he can do, and I would hope does, is tell players individually and as a group what they are doing wrong or not doing at all. For the last 4 years the game style was entirely one way and now they are being taught how to play both ways (with and without the ball) but excluding the Collingwood game this had only appeared in patches. The biggest concern for me is the lack of spread to cover opposition players when they have the ball.

So we know that it can work.... albeit being a NAB game, but we put together 4 quarters there.... and resisted several challenges.

It's hard when you see the Suns have such a red hot go last night. They would have beat us yesterday.

How would this benefit our future on-field performance? All it would do is create more fodder for the media vultures, and more negative headlines for our Club. I'm sure there will be plenty of home-truths, but they shouldn't be played out in the media. I thought the presser was just what it should have been in the circumstances, and I particularly liked Neeld's empathy with how the supporters and sponsors might be feeling right now.

Spot on, & when you take senior players out & change strategy, you do go backwards, necessary to grow a stronger future. It is difficult & hurts bad.

My issues:

• tailored media message to keep the press at bay is only one step removed from being more denial about our problems.... are you really comfortable that our head coach thought we showed resolve in that debacle.... we are in a world of difficulty on and off the field. I'm not about tearing our hair and crying in the corner but I am a believer that you have to admit your problems and not kid yourself if you want to progress.
  
• No-one at the club deserves a free pass.....They are all there to deliver a result. They are not delivering, and they are rapidly "losing their stakeholders support"... and that's not the players ( I reckon they've already gone based on what I see).... its the supporter base.
  

We are a laughing stock. I can handle that . I want a vision for the future I can believe in (and I do want to believe). I don't want soft gutless uncompetitive footy followed by denial about how bad things really are.

Of course he is.

He acknowledged exactly that after he was "too honest" following round 1.

He must have been pulled up after the round 1 presser. Love to know what he really wanted to say.

Unlike many here I thought his presser was first rate. In contrast to the uncontrolled spoiled brat performance post Brisbane where he wanted to kick anyone and anything other than himself he was measured, realistic, informative and looked like he was in control.

It's the best I've seen him perform in public. That doesn't mean I like where we are at, just that I liked the way he handled things. What will upset many is that he is telling the truth at the moment, they are not excuses, they are reasons.

That won't placate the frustration supporters feel, but it's reality.

I have no problems with stay positive messages, but I am all for getting ON the boys backs and laying this at their feet, they are the only ones to turn it around.

I agree 100% that it's frustrating, but seriously, what else can you do ..... venting and getting angry works for a while, and I felt ill after seeing the dmg that the Tigers had inflicted on us in the 3rd qtr but we are all supporters of the MFC, by the very nature of that means we are supporting this club, that is a positively motivated action, Support.

On a side note, the premiership quarter is where we are struggling badly. AFL site says that in the first 3 rounds, we have been outscored 152 to 28, thats terrible, and you would imagine that the coming out to play in the third qtr is a big focus for the dogs this week.

Look Neeld is in a lose/lose situation with these post match press conferences following a flogging.

If you remember back to the first round Neeld was lambasted for being too emotional, too angry and made the commitment that he must drop players.

Subsequently papers write about it for 3 or 4 days and you get headlines like 'Dees in crisis' 'the world is falling apart' etc.

Much better off pissing off the loyal supporters who furrow there brow when Neeld highlights the positive to media to avoid negative press the he might generate.

Its highly likely that the press conference isn't necessarily the same message told to players or its delivered in a much different way.

I much prefer Neeld honey coating a press conference for appearance sake than read all the negative press or so called experts like Matthews chiming in with his Hudson/Clark comment.

Your better off not adding fuel to the fire so to speak, so of course he is going to accentuate the good things

Its just the average punter cant see very many of them at the moment.

What gets said and done behind closed doors is all that matters.
