Looks like we're doing even more to beef up our recruiting dept.

This role puts Lamb as a fulltime national recruiter, alongside Gary Burleigh.

Both report directly to Todd Viney.

I'm still hoping we can snaffle Derek Hine's assistant at the pies to boot...

Dont know how the clubs gonna pay for new staff without any sponsor

That's right. You don't have a clue.

I like the sound of this.

So we've recruited a cop...might be just what we need to interrogate potential draftees to see who really is dedicated to being elite in their profession and who would be committed to their club!

maybe they hired a cop to get to the bottom of the Mifsud/Davey confusion?

"Lamb choice cut for Dees"

Ugh, who's the funnyman writing these puntastic titles for these articles, Ugly Dave Gray?

So does he replace Prendergast, or was his a different title?

Might also be able to help in some off field issues from time to time.

No he is a recruiting officer not the head of recruiting. Viney holds that position for this year.

Better than "Lamb to the slaughter."

Or if gets into a verbal stoush with Neeld...

Neeld roasts Lamb...

Underwhelmed.

No experience. A good bloke who has worked with some school teams and ammos. I should have applied.

Haven't we learned anything? We keep going for rookie coaches and staff like Mahoney etc who learn on the job. We are more desperate than that. We need someone who can tell us what the elite clubs are doing. At least Neeld and Craig can do that.

What about Pelchen or the Geelong guy?

Vic Metro assistant 2 years running.

Can you name any of Geelong or Collingwood's "big name" recruiting officers?

Pelchen is employed by St Kilda in a much higher role, as is "the Geelong guy" Stephen Wells at Geelong.

One just started in a role where you'd expect he wants to stay for a while and make his impression, the other firmly entrenched for 20+ years and part of the furniture.

Not likely.

I'm led to believe that we have an agreement in place that the Collingwood assistant recruiter Jason Taylor will be announced as our head recruiter at the start of the 2013 season.

My understanding is that whilst he has accepted to take on the role Collingwood has refused to release him from his contract, going against somewhat of an AFL convention that staff are free to pursue more enticing positions. This is why Eddie came out a few months ago in the media and threw that hissy fit.

Yep I'd call that no experience in recruiting AFL players. What would you call it?

Thanks for avoiding my point which is someone learning on the job rather than a tried and proven candidate.

Have no idea when contracts expire with off-field staff, but don't player's contracts expire at the end of October? If that's the case with staff, that would be pretty convenient coming into the draft.

Does anyone know if Jason Taylor is any good?

I'm really not sure of the particulars. Sorry

Not ideal if we have activated our compensation picks for this year.

I hope we don't go on to lament this appointment...

How would we ever know?

Who criticises Gary Burleigh for the recruitment of Cook or Scully?

No one I've come across.

Not ideal if we have activated our compensation picks for this year.

Depends - you'd think the compo picks would be the easy ones to get right.

The guns will be impossible to keep under wraps and there will be plenty of exposed form to judge them on.

A good recruiter should really be making the difference late in the draft, finding diamonds in the rough.

We have managed to miss some picks looking back, getting good players with top ten picks is easy enough. getting the 100% best player at your pick is another thing to get right.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
