Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Post Match - Coaches Press Conference

just watched the Neeld presser for this weeks game on the AFL website

He's upbeat, obviously trying to put a positive spin on things this week after going hard in Round 1. It actually made me feel a bit better.

As he says, the Eagles are a quality, skillful team.

We, clearly, are not.

He kept re-iterating how coming up against the "slick" Eagles was a good education for our boys. Just imagine the "education" we're going to get against the Hawks, Cats and Pies this year. My brain's sore just thinking about it.

We've been getting educated for 5 years but haven't made it past prep...

yep we are approaching 5 years since the sacking of Daniher and we are actually a worse football side now then we were then, despite getting 20 top-20 draft picks or whatever number it is. Absolutely staggering. At least in the Daniher years we got to think we were good 50% of the time, I would kill to be back in that sort of situation. Mediocrity would be bliss! Bring back Neale!

We are actually heartless... Looking at the post-match comments by players and coaches and seeing things like:

"We are building towards something so we can't be too disappointed about every round we lose."

"We don't condone the loss"

"I just think today there were some certain positives"

Things like those on top of Neeld's comments last week about not being surprised we lost, make me really wonder about what kind of mindset has been cultivated amongst the coaching and playing groups... Round 2 and we're already in Bailey mode and just resigned to being gutless.

Didn't blame Neeld in my post. Last week we were hurt, this week we're resigned to failure. Didn't take long for us to break Neeld's spirit did it?

For the record, that first quote I had in my post was from Tom McDonald...

I don't think his spirit is broken, i think he now realizes the absolute magnitude of his new job.

I just can't stomach a coach pulling out "positives" straight after a game like that... Where's the pride? Where's the anger/disappointment? Where's the HEART?!

I can't cop these political answers when my club is in so much need of soul.

Stuie if the coach blows up on camera the club is done. Let him do that behind closed doors. I feel your pain.

Shane Woewodin told me a few yars ago during his time at Melbourne the Danniher we seen in front of the cameras was different to the one behind closed doors, I think Neeld is the same. He was crucified last week for being honest in his presser!

I don't want him to blow up, but give me a break with the positive stuff, no one wants to hear that straight after that insipid effort... I swear he almost said "competitive"..... arrrghhhh

Yep. Mark Neeld has 3 years to sort out this mess. This week should be a big one.

Neeld ain't stupid though. Most supporters were predicting a heavy loss (60-80) points he would have known this was coming. Last week he was [censored] because (again like most supporters) he would have expected we could win a home game against a rubbish interstate side.

Why is Tom McD being thrown to the media wolves after his second game that the team lost by 100+ points would be my question.

Wait and see who is playing for Casey next week. That will be the best indication.

Don't know where you got that from? Everything, everywhere I've read praised his forthrightness...

A lot of media crucified him and they put it down to it being his first post match press conference. Don't get me wrong I liked it and hate PC but I heard it throughout the week

Although he did state he wasn't surprised we lost to Brisbane...

Always such a downer stuie.

I genuinely enjoyed watching the game today, drunk as I was. Feel like we've become the mighty ducks and neeld is our emilio estevez. Still, what was enjoyable was I felt like we were better than last week. Neeld & co are moulding us into something and I think what some people are missing is that we're a rubbish team and you can't just get angry to solve the problem. It's rough but the bailey/prendegast era has quietly [censored] us, this is rough, feel free to have your whinge about that, BUT right now we have possibly the best coaching structure in the league and finally have some decent facilities to go with it. So if there was ever a time to jump on the bandwagon and place your blind dumb undeserving faith in this team, it's now.

You can see now why so much of preseason was spent on fitness cos we can be competitve for a quarter and then we have nothing left. The [censored] that this coaching group has inherited very sadly needs to be rebuilt from the foundations up, I'd hope everyone can see that.

Maybe going in and tweaking or whatever, getting something simpler happening would get us to 9th for a few years but what they're trying to do is get us to finally win that premiership asap and so we're dealing with the garbage now for the diamonds later.

For whatever reason, I'm more optimistic about this team than ever and will keep going along to each game to watch us get hammered because I believe we're finally headed in the right direction.

So whinge all you like, whatever floats your boat. See you on the other side.

TL:DR Ride the wave, cos a premiership's comin. Also... so drunk.

Something nobody has really mentioned is that straight of the bat Neeld has failed to deliver something he said he'd do - watching his presser last week he made it very clear that he was angry and that blokes were going to be dropped because of it.

'will the same 22 travel to Perth? Not on your life. Am I going to go down a similar road and continue to put blind faith in players? No way, absolutely no way. That's fair enough, that's not a threat, that's not anything other than being honest, and that's what the players were told.'

He dropped ONE BLOKE. All the other changes were forced. I don't know how that is being honest and forthright, and I don't know how it is supposedly taking a no BS approach to what is expected of the players. There's a good 15 blokes who have put in two pathetic performances so far, if there aren't a bunch of changes this week how is that not 'blind faith'

Bloody hell it is hard to imagine a new coach getting off to a worse start

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
