Chose 7th. Confident this year, even though our not so great pre-season may show another poor year. Even if we lose our first finals game, I will be happy.

This is harder to gauge than it has been for many years. We have not seen anything like our best 22 in any one preseason game so far. I reckon we will be 3-8 or 4-7 for the first half of the season, and then a strong finish with 6 or 7 seven wins. 9th or 10th probably. However, if the gameplan kicks in earlier we could be a lot stronger than this.

I voted for 8th, although I'm not overly confident. I just can't stand the thought of missing out on finals for the 6th year in a row.

Whilst I have absolute confidence in the new crew in the football department, it seems we are about to embark on another rebuild this season, which is absolutely devastating given that the rebuild officially commenced in 2007 and we're now having to once again revise our structure, personnel and on field culture.

Barring injury, Mitch Clark will prove himself to be the recruit of the year.

If we get to a good start (ie, capitalise on our good draw), we could have an okay season, because I think Neeld's influence will increasingly pay dividends throughout the year.

Make no mistake, we now have an absolute elite football department - it's the quality of the list that still raises concerns. Some say it's really good, but I'm not so sure. I think with some smart, effective tweaking over the next couple of years, it could become really good.

That said, it's sure to be an interesting season - so many variables. For instance, I think the tragic loss of Jim Stynes may actually harden the resolve of the playing group. I hope it will - Jim deserves that.

The first game against the Lions will be as interesting as any we've watched in the last decade IMO. I want to see real, no nonsense Magner-like hardness out there for the entire game. If we do, we will win the game and it could define our season.

We have a horrible period from about R6-12 but other than that have a decent draw - even in that stretch I we could pinch a couple of games against Sydney in Sydney and Essendon. All things going right we could easily make the 8. However its going to depend on the results of our two matches against Richmond & St. Kilda and our two Etihad games against Freo & NM for mine. Beat Richmond twice and pinch one of the other 3 and I think we can sneak into the 8. Lose to the Tiges twice and either they or North will pip us for the 8.

I don't think we are that far out of contention for the finals as some may think and I am buoyed by the thought of Daniher's first season in 1998 after a horrid period in 1996-1997. Losing Jurrah & Sylvia for the start will hurt but if they can set themselves up for the second half of the season we could very well get on a run like in 1987 & 2000 and come home with a wet sail (to make finals, I don't think we have a chance to go as deep as those two years).

All that being said I have tipped us to finish 11th as I think Richmond will have the wood on us this year with their midfield firing and I think we will drop a few "winnable" games at the end of the year to Freo, Saints, NM or perhaps Adel or Port.

i have us with 3 wins to half way and 6 on the way home - we will be so smashed for confidence and form that we will turn our apparently good run home into a dodgy one.

That is a fairly pessimistic prediction Benno .Rough weekend?

Forgetting about who we play. We will probably be a bit slow at the start with all the stuff going on (hopefully still beat Brisbane) but I would expect that in four or five rounds we will be up and firing with a steady improvement .Big game for us is Geelong at Geelong to prove that we are on the way. My prediction is 6th. If we beat collingwood in QB well and good but if we play to our potential in most games thats better.

I agree with all except for the last para in its entirety. I think we will drop a few "winnable" but think these will be compensated with the surprise "unwinnable". Like Dees Rule I predicted 6th and will be pleased if we play smart and are competitive. I still have faith that the depth of our complete squad will give us some flexibility to match different opposition structures. I am not about selecting a best 22 as I hope it is all relative to the particular game.

I'm slowly coming to terms with the club facing another rebuilding period, as farcical as that may seem. We just don't appear to have the cattle at the moment, particularly in the midfield where games are won and lost.
