I am not suggesting we do wyl but if it meant a very large sponser with a 5 year commitment from China

and a change to the Dragons was what it took then so be it.

You've got to be kidding me. We are the DEMONS not the dragons or any other name. FFS why don't we just vote to call ourselves the Melbourne Hawks again, it's only a name...

Spot on we would have won a flag by now!

The point missed here by all is that if there was any problem with the Melbourne Demons & China our CEO would not have returned there last week. This would have been sorted in 2010. There is no disrespect to the Chinese at all. But that goes both ways. We are the Demons, i know this because i just collected my membership pack from the mail box.

Makes for a good conversation wyl.

We don't have a Chinese sponser yet mate so it is all conjecture.

If there is a match for points in China you can bet it will be the giants vs someone.

Hard to see the Dees getting a look in, more likely the Swans.

Both from Sydernee.

Go down well over there giants vs the swans.

No symbol problems!

$10 million pa for 10 years?

Come on everyone has their price.

If I was President our name would not be for sale. (<- That's a full stop).

I give our CEO more Kudos than that. If there are to be games up there the MFC will be involved.

I'd recon they'd want the local derby played in Sydney.

The problem will not be our CEO but the AFL.

Nothing will stand in the way of the Giants being successful.

We have to kowtow ( no pun intended ) to the AFL.

When they say jump our only question is how high.

It will probably be this way for a considerable time into the future.

just look at the what happened with the loss of you know who.

Hardly a peep out of the MFC we need the money and compensation too much to rock the boat.

It is a sad fact of life unfortunately.

You may well be right s t i n g a.

But unless we have Chinese sponser who presures the AFL IMO it is hard to see it being the Dees

You underestimate the work done behind the scenes of the past 3-4 years O.D. Also the name Melbourne.

GW$ will have enough trouble attracting Business in their own back yard to worry about China for a long time yet.

GW$ may play in China, but it will be as our opponent.

I think the AFL would be very pleased to see the MFC being so pro active...We don't want AFL hand outs..we want to stand tall in this league.

I know we don't want any , but I doubt we have much choice

That is the problem. I think we not going to agree on this one wyl.

But it has been the best discussion I have had this side of September.

Have a great night

Carn the DEES ( thats Demons )

One big Chinese sponsorship long term would make a massive difference to this club. Both on and off the field of battle. Edited by why you little

Sure, and there have been Presidents happy to have their Clubs merge and relocate.

Fancy barracking for the Melbourne Hawks if we had more money in the bank, old dee?

Nice hypothetical, though.

Kudos to the current board for the work they are doing with this push into China. It might not reap more than the odd exhibition match, but, then again, it just might reap huge long term rewards; from training facilities, large scale sponsorship/memberships, and pole position in a new market with untold potential.

BUT .. one thing that I don't think has been mentioned yet (apologies if I've overlooked it) is that this push into China was instigated by our previous, and oft-maligned, board, led by Steve Harris and Paul Gardner. Surely, there should be just a little hat-tipping their way (despite what else we might think of their performance).

I'm excited the club is on the front foot with the China experiment as well in other areas. This is an untapped area that could bring $$$$ to the club as well as world class sport science facilities if we choose the high altitude way to go.

Gone are the days when we hesitate with issues like the Lexus center and lose out

If I does not work out I'm confident the club will switch tact and move to greener pastures

This is very much the gist that some seem happy to gloss over , i.e that it takes time and effort and that we are perfectly situated as a vehicletodrive acompany's foray into the Aussie market. Others and myself noted sometime back that this is exactly what LG did witth much success.

Something i didnt twig to til now and quietly brooched inhe article is the significance of the Chinese New Year. This may well be why the2nd (or first lol ) sponsor hasnt shown themselves yet....waiting for the RIGHT year !! If you think thats far fetched..... well it isnt. Very superstitious lot :)

This is just a huge development that is slowly growing and getting stronger. Could be the most signifigant thing to happen to the MFC since Smithy.

They are building cities the size of Brisvegas each month over there.

The MFC has done the groundwork ahead of its rivals.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
