Jamar, Dees up for challenge

"MELBOURNE has been challenged on all levels by new coach Mark Neeld - and it's a good thing, according to ruckman Mark Jamar. "

In defiance of what some people seem to think of as an affront to the players it would seem its just the tonic the players need to spark.

I dont expect all to respoind in quite this manner. There will undoubtedly those (players) who actually believe themselves that they will be up for it, that they will be part of the renaissance but history shows not everyone makes it and often its from opportunities created at these times that the unsung comes to the fore.

Neeld seems to be pushing the right buttons...

In the commensurate article in The Age (http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/russian-eyes-leader-prize-20111116-1nj4k.html) it mentions Jamar as a leader and asks whether he would like to be captain...

Do some research, Pierik.

He has never been in the leadership group and that is telling. As Mark himself says in the article - he has to establish himself as a leader before he gets in the LG, let alone get anywhere near the captaincy.

Otherwise, it was good to read about Bate and the positive response of a few to the new setup.

So Neeld has been fronting every player "one-on-one" (Face-to-face) during pre-season training.

I would love to know what Neeld said to Dunn and Bate

Bate ? not sure...

I think they would be different.

Bate he wouldn't let go during trade week and is in great nick and training with the midfield.

Dunn is doing whatever Dunn is doing.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
