Was finally beginning to settle down in a defender's role when a sickening collision early in the game against the Blues left him with a broken leg and ended his season.

Strauss leg break made me physically ill.

He appeared on the Sunday footy show in the finals series and was in high spirits and said that he was ahead of schedule, which is great.

Will no doubt spend the whole year with Casey though.

Strauss epitomises that old adage that some players just take more time. Many of us almost gave up on the young lad. Well Strauss is a good case in point that sometimes you have to trust the recruiters as they know a lot more about the caper than us part time observers.

Injury in the most unfortunate of timing, hopefully he can resume services mid season and pick up where he left off. His beautiful kicking technique would be an asset to any club.

I'm happy to admit that I was one of those who had all but given up on James securing a regular spot in our best 22. However, as the selectors showed faith in him, his confidence and form seemed to slowly but steadily improve, which is a real positive in a defence that was constantly under pressure. I just hope that he makes a full recovery from the injury, both physically and in his mind. If he can pick up where he left off by some time in the second half of 2012, I'll be well satisfied.

Was a surprise early pick, and I think he has shown very little. His value on this site has soared since he broke his leg. I can't remember a game that he actually earned his spot.

Hopefully his recovery goes well, because MFC really need a good half back flanker

Thomo I have reserved my judgement but I think you are being a bit over critical.

Last year was his first without injury before the fateful broken leg.

I am happy to give him till the end of 2013 because I think it will be hard to show much after coming back from that broken leg in 2012.

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

It’s game day and the Demons return to Melbourne to play the Eagles at the MCG for the first time in over a decade. A win keeps the Dees finals hopes alive whereas a loss will almost certainly slam the finals window shut.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
