Heffernan?

Ellis?

Read?

Turley?

Powell?

Not great, were they?

I would agree with all except Powell.

We got our money's worth out of him IMO.

Lisle plays 2012 and Cook 2014.

Well I think that would be the theory.

Where does Fitzpatrick fit?

Went straight through to the keeper.

Nobody trades away big key position players if they are any good!! This guy is their version of Warnock, only younger and slightly more coordinated. Hawthorn has made an art form out of trading away spuds and making their new clubs think they have won lotto!!

Pretty much what I said in post #13. Like for like.

Well, you stated: "He's big, strong, and a great mark. He needs to find consistency, but should be coming into his own. I endorse him as a potential recruit." - now does the "is he bigger than you, Ben?" comment make sense?

I knew what said poster was inferring, although I'm delighted you took the time to explain the patently obvious. No-one is bigger than "Ben-Hur", ergo "it does not compute".

I hope you get it.

You have several on the boil at once with the hope that at least one makes it. If both turn out well, you either find a way to accommodate both, or you trade off the one you want the least. Odds are that one of Cook or Fitzpatrick will bust - let's hope it's not both. Once you add in Lisle the odds of finding a player good enough for that position improve, especially since he's far enough developed to have a high degree of confidence that he'll get there.

It's not unlike how we recruited the likes of Davis and Tom McDonald last year as likely KPDs, despite the fact that we're up to our eyeballs in that area. You always need multiple new players developing.

Just as a mater of interest where do you see Jack Watts playing forward or back? I reckon he would be good at either end but he may be more value as a back with his pace, stamina and skills.

Saw Lisle play a bit in his junior years (his year 12 really) and didn't rate him at all. He shows glimpses of potential but never really dominated a game, even in the APS competition where he should have looked a class above. He's done nothing to show me otherwise since he got drafted. Would be pretty disappointed if we picked him up

Why aren't the Kangaroos chasing him hard?

Not for me - natural forward. Lovely mark, steady kick and really knows how to create space. Leave the backline to Chippa, Col, Tappy, Riv, etc

Peter Vardy was the last recruit who really improved our list IMO

He had one good year in 2002 and I thought he could have been something for us but then he broke down and was bog ordinary after that.

At least we got one year out of him. Its better than some other trades.

Good explanation Nasher. You need to develop a number of possible options in your list.

A few people are getting stuck into Lisle. I for one thought Stefan Martin wasn't going to make it...and look at him now. Big men take time...I hope we get him.

Totally agree. 2002 was a bloody good season in retrospect, and Vardy made our forward line look superb.

Is that the year we lost the final to Adelaide at the G? I invited everyone over to my place to watch the game that night then as soon as the siren went I kicked everyone out and went to bed. Was so shattered!

Pretty sure most were smart enough to just ignore it.

It's practically your catchphrase.

It was actually a genuine question but obviously you'd rather have a go at me than answer it.

Back on the topic, now that they've landed Gunston how far down the pecking order does that leave Lisle, is he now 5th in line?

It would appear that Lisle is staying with Hawthorn.

So who is our next speculative forward pick up? No don't tell me it's ......... Fevola?

Not the worst idea, and quite frankly, all off-field issues aside - is the best there is left!?

No thanks. Simply no real upside to such a proposition.

Lisle would be a great pick up- can play CHB or Key forward position. Also could develop into a relieving ruck.

Posted

If we can pick up Lisle for a third round pick I'd be happy with that.

I don't think he's worth much more than that, but he'd be a good speculative pick.

Maybe throw in an exchange of second round picks also if possible.

Or a straight swap with Warnock if the Hawks want him.

Yep - I think it's the most excited and the most devastated I've ever been during and after a Dees game.

I've got to give him credit, at the start of this year he was a "wouldn't touch him with a 10ft pole" sort of deal. He has been upgraded in my mind to an "absolute last resort", but that is only if the club is dead set on getting big forward to our club for 2012, and it would come with so many clauses and a minimum wage package.

The Demons’ aggressive small forward who kicks goals and defends the Demons’ ball in the forward arc. When he’s on song, he’s unstoppable but he did blot his copybook with a three week suspension in the final round.
