Real Demon

Recommended Posts

I'm Open minded to this appointment.

I still think we need to Instill, A good dose of 'Steel' into our ways of playing the contests.

So I hope we incorporate a 'Vigor' Coach of sorts. Someone who brings with them some much needed aggro to the Ethos. + the smarts Of Course.

It is now 24 hours since the news broke and I have to say guys I was absolutely under whelmed by the appointment.

My intial reaction was We could not get or afford the real thing so we got his proxy!

He is now the coach and like it or lump it I will have to get used to it.

Sorry for being the only negative on here

But I will wait and see.

With this appointment I am firmly it the actions speak louder than words camp.

It may well be that I am weighted down by too many false dawns.

So dee-luded I will wait and see.

I get the impression from Neeld that the players aren't going to love him but they're going to respect him and play like Demons for him.

I like his no bs coaching style and he's the no nonsense kind of coach we need after Bailey.

I have a feeling he's going to give out a few rockets to players who don't play their roles properly or dance around playing for themselves and not the team.

"I simply want to coach the team that is the hardest to play against in the AFL"

- Mark Neeld 2011

This is the kind of thing I like to hear from a coach and I think we've done really well to secure his services for 3 years and hopefully beyond.

Go Dees!

Bring on 2012!!

Quote Neeld:

"There's a fair bit of Blighty, and a fair bit of Mick as well as my own thoughts in my coaching."

Have we acquired God Himself?

What if he has taken the nutty part of both!

Neeld interview on Dee Tv

- "what type of coach will you be?"

- "I'll be very level, and very direct" (arches eyebrow and looks at interviewer in such a way as to say - these soft bastards are about to get their comeuppance).

I'm head over heals.

As usual, our off-season will be more exciting than our on-season. Hopefully that's about to change.

Heard him on SEN and he was asked what he thought of the MFC list.

He then went on about the 18 - 24 group, how much potential there was and still developing etc.

Not a word about the 25+ group.

Does that mean he thinks they are mainly crap.

If he does he just grew in statue for mine.

and rightly so BB

It just looks a little dare I saw it!

Yes "camp"

Old Dee, I think you and I have been following Melbourne for about the same number of totally frustrating years. We've both seen many coaches come and go since the great Norm Smith. We've had a few years to match this year, for off-field events - such as the Melb/Hawks proposed merger. At the start of this week there was a sense we had no idea what we were doing 1. On Scully 2. On appointing a new coach.

It seems we will come out the Scully "crisis" in a reasonable position - certainly better than the other clubs who have been raided.

And second, although it is only Day Two (he only started at 6pm last night)Neeld has presented well, in his first outings in the media.

More, as he is/was considered to be the best of all the assistant coaches on the market, we have out run the others in the market.

Do you really believe Eade, Laidely or Craig (who still might end up with us)can take us to a flag?

After 50+ years , perhaps I am the eternal (and bloodied) optimist?

But, somehow, I feel the momentum shifting to getting us back on the track we started just over 3 years ago,

sometimes saying nothing says everything :)

I distinctly feel a new order about to sweep through the footy dept.

A rude awakening for some, a breath of fresh air and the unshackling of the inner demon for others.

Some , I sense are about to be expected to earn their dollars and not occasionally, but all the time.

The filth were/are all about everyone having a role to play and doing that role. I expect a near carbon copy of that doctrine will appear albeit with the Neeld nuances.

Dare I say....all Hell is about to let loose ...:)

Impossible to know whether this is a good appointment or not..........only time will answer that question!

I just hope he is given every ounce of support from the club, and the internal issues are resolved pronto, so he can focus on the job and and not be distracted by club bs!

Certainly appears and sounds like a switched on guy, but so does Bailey.

The club knows how critical this appointment is, and we have to back them in to get it right.............being a Stynes administration appointment, I'm confident we have our man!

Go Dees!!!!!!

I hope you are right BD.

Lets just say in the short term my old bones are a little cynical.

I struggle these days to get euphoric every time we get a new massiah be it players or coach.

He may turn out brilliant, I will wait and see.

Alert. Alert. Get your leather elbow patches off. This is the 'new Melbourne Football Club'. None of the old chestnuts allowed.

And while we're at it, let's get rid of this name "the Dees".

It's soft and friendly. Non-threatening. It's the kind of thing someone would shout out at a Wiggles concert.

We're "Demons".

They seem to genuinely hate one another. It's quite amusing.

That was bloody hilarious. Love how Mick treated the fat sloppy waste of space. Have never come across a genuine journo with a poorer grasp on the English language.

Wouldn't say I'm "euphoric", or that Neeld is the "Messiah".

But after the events of the last couple of months, I'm starting to think, once again there is hope, we are back on track to deliver.

As the saying goes, "what's the alternative"?

Go Dees!

Garry lyon was a significant part of Baileys appointment,he got that wrong.Of course he admitted he got it wrong and said he would never be on a selection panel again.O.K ,then Jim Stynes asks for his help and lyon comments it is hard to knock back a mate who is so ill.Fair enough.

Lyon then takes command, typical Lyon and his processes ,comes back with a similar applicant to the one just failed us.What if Neeld (who)is not a key link in Malthouses successes, maybe Bailey(who) was not a key link in Williams success at Port.

Melbourne did not get the best man available,he is at Freo.We needed a self acknowledged [censored] to get our man.Malthouse,Matthews,Sheedy,Clarkson have a mongrel in them Garry does not.Garry likes to be liked.

Read Nathan Burke's article on the selection process of DB - was in Inside Football about a month back. Walls and Burke had the biggest say as the outside 'experts'. I can assure you that Garry doesn't give a flying f*** whether you like him or not.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
