Want Sydney to win tonight to end St Kilda's season so that the Ross Lyon situation can be resolved sooner rather than later.

We can either lock him in by the end of the next week or so or rule him out and go hard at Neeld, Sanderson, Burns and co.

Very much hoping for a Swans win. It certainly couldn't hurt our chances, even if it is a bit of a longshot.

The last word of your post is 'final'. We haven't been there for five years. You don't win premierships conceding 232 points in a game, you need to be able to defend. If we signed Ross Lyon it'd be our greatest day since the 2000 Preliminary Final.

Both sides are playing great football so far on the TV. We haven't played like this since the Northey years.

Bring on the defense training!!! Swans up by 26.....

Yep. I actually love watching close, hard-fought, defensive sport. There's nothing wrong with a scoring feast once in a while, but there's nothing quite as emasculating and infuriating as the complete inability to stop your opponent from scoring.

Neeld, Sanderson & Burns?

FFS - Lets just keep doing what we have always done, sign Assistant Coaches & just watch us keep getting the same result.

We need to change this up & land the big fish.

The assistant coach model does not work for us.

We have suffered long enough - We need some hope.

Surely It's gotta be MM, Lyon, Bomber Thompson

I have faith in GL to make the correct decision this time.

He must of learn't from the 2007 failed Bailey experiment.

Yeah, he should have chosen a coach that would have guaranteed us success. What a pill!

If we can't get a premiership coach (which still doesn't guarantee success) we will have no choice but to go for an assistant, and if we were to go that route it might as well be Viney- He will instill toughness on our boys. And that's what we need most.

Are you drunk? What the he'll are you on about?

Clarkson re-signed. Malthouse won't be coaching next year. And it is known they're having a big crack at Lyon.

If he decides to stay at St Kilda what do you propose.

They have explored every option possible with the top line senior coaches and have had a red hot crack at them but honestly what is your proposal should Lyon decline? Thompson I doubt will go anywhere. Who then?

The next best available coaches are the senior assistants.

Edit: clarkson was an assistant who became a premiership coach first time.

Ross Lyon was only an assistant before 3 Gf's.

Thompson too (and he took 7 years to get the first one)

The Scott brothers.....

Again what is the point of your post?

Now GOAG

Sure little drunk to answer your 1st question

I will say this nice & slowly for you so you get the grasp.

We have been down the assistant Coach path since 1986

25 years later this model has not worked for our club.

I don't care about Clarkson (Hawthorn have a very different recent history than we have)

I don't care about The Scott brothers (How the hell can you compare the Geelong side he inherited)

The point is Bomber Thompsom, Ross Lyon, Clarko are all advanced @ this point in time.

Malthouse won't be coaching next year! Is that right? Give me a spell

In my opinion we do not need another ROOKIE assistant coach.

We need some experiance in charge in 2012 simple as that.

Thankfully my mail is Gaz Lyon is all over this fact.

My point any clearer?

Posted (edited)

No.

They are going at those established coaches.

No one can criticize the club for not facing a crack- they're having a red hot go at these blokes. But if Lyon declines. Bomber stays and Malthouse doesn't coach then what is your suggestion?

As I said in my OP, that is when they then go at these assistants.

But you seem to want something to appear out of mid air- perhaps Norm Smith? Checker Hughes?

Ease off the drink and think!

No.

So the "assistant model" has not worked for MFC.

It has worked at other clubs, obviously.

But you want a proven coach.

What is to say that will work for MFC?

If those coaches have worked at other clubs, it does not matter.

You have already implied that models that work for other clubs do not work for ours.

I struggle to follow your thought process.

Maybe I need another drink?

Do we really want this guy??

Two Swans coaches playing under a roof with 3 goals kicked in a final!

Mate, I'd be more than happy to see our team as honest as the Swans and Saints!

When was the last time you saw team wide desperation from the MFC?

Great Team Saints, more early draft picks than an other team & only able to kick 8 goals, great desperation but you dont win flags kicking 8 goals!

I have seen many desperate teams of Melb playing finals with Daniher,Balme & Northey.

The great Norm Smith said you play to win flags!!

All of the above coaches incl Lyon have come second, history only remembers winners!

I thought the game was a cracker myself and would relish the MFC playing that tough a brand of footy. Boring my arse.

Spot on....reminded me of the 1990 Elimination Final....a classic

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
